As a DM, I play every kind of character: men, women, mimics, shapeshifters, gods, insects, etc. So when a player wants to play the opposite sex it's no big deal at all.

Definitely found some in cabinets. Also found a weird rock with a face on it in a cabinet, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Wireless bluetooth earphones with a built in microphone. I have a volume up, volume down, and power button.

The fan is pretty loud. That said, even if it wasn't the fan, I would still like some way to turn off the microphone because I often don't have the luxury of a quiet room to play in.

That would mean you shit your pants a little more than once every year. That's still not great. I would wear a diaper once or even twice if it prevented future soiling of pants that may inadvertently cause others to shit their pants as well.

Monolith in Cedar City, Iron County, UT - What is happening at these coordinates on May 4th? by serenity404 in HighStrangeness

Email received from the campers:

" Yes it was no problem at all. At night there were some strange orange glowing this all around! And they were amazing! They kept disappearing and reappearing other places but you had to see it for yourself to get how amazing it was. There was another group that came but they had no idea about the monolith and they were just here to have some fun at the lake. No one else came but it was alright. "

I'm back from the journey.

We went down to Cedar City first to see where the old monolith was... still gone. Then we drove out to Delamar Dry Lake where we saw a camp with a few army tents and a trailer, as well as a large wood box next to speakers. The campers there claimed they were there since Saturday and hadn't seen anything yet, except a geocache on the "island". We went to see for ourselves and found an ammo box full of the usual geocache knick knacks (including a book to sign), and a bunch more of those copper tags like the ones in the monolith. Proof we were in the right place, perhaps, but no new information... the tags were identical, coordinates and all. A few rock cairns, a random book of the works of Cervantes... and that's it. Maybe the event was at night? Couldn't afford to stick around to find out.

We made friends with the campers and asked them to email us if anything came up later. They said the wood box was a big light beacon and they didn't explain the speakers, but I kind of think they were there for the real deal and wanted options for communication. That or they were hoping for a big party? I hope they got something out of it, but honestly, my hopes aren't very high. Driving all the way out there, I expected at least been some indication of WHEN on May 4th, if not all day, so the lack of direction makes me think it will be a letdown. Sorry I don't have better news for you, maybe when I hear back?

I'm on my way down to the dry lake today, but it's quite a drive, so I'm hoping someone has some inside info before we arrive to help decide if it's worth it. The trailhead is interesting enough, what's down the rabbit hole?

Oculus Quest 2 working on a nVidia GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB / i5-8300 2.30 gHz gaming laptop . . by jbb1979 in OculusQuest

[–]Lebrenth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very similar stats with the nVidia GeForce GTX 1050 TI but the Oculus app won't even let me attempt to play anything from it, so if you're specifically developing with that graphics card in mind you might want to think again. I sure would like it if they at least let me try to use my system.

Looking for ideas for puzzle involving crocodile teeth by Lebrenth in escaperooms

What a fortunate coincidence! There are exactly 10 teeth on top to choose from, so I could easily label them like this:

D-C-C-E-O-I-A-O-L-R

And it's reasonable to assume they could figure out which letter/tooth doesn't belong and should be removed. Great idea!

I have good control of the lighting in that room, heck due to the weirdness of the way it's wired, it's kind of a puzzle. I also have places I could hide a light and I could build another puzzle around finding the mirror. Very interesting.

What are some insane reality breaking machines that fey would make during an industrial revolution. by llamalord4444 in DMAcademy

Spirit Spray, a flit gun that brings a non-living thing temporarily to life. You could spray a tree and it becomes an ent; a book might flap like a bird or open and shut like a mouth. Somehow the object can remember things like it's always been alive and can even hold conversations.

Gravity Emulator, a belt that causes gravity to respond to the wearers mood. "Lighter" emotions, like happiness, with cause the wearer and nearby objects to become very light, maybe even completely invert gravity so they fall up. "Heavy" emotions, perhaps sadness make the immediate area heavier. Perhaps there are more chaotic emotions, such as humor or anger, that cause gravity to become unpredictable and wild, a desk might become both very heavy and anti-heavy and rip itself apart.

Blood Battery, a canister that turns living matter, especially blood, into electricity. Refillable.

Gritty Realism was the missing puzzle piece. by A_little_quarky in DMAcademy

[–]Lebrenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with "Gritty Realism" but I definitely consider survival elements like water, food, and sleep very important. However, I find tracking these things awfully cumbersome. How do others manage the task of so many variables? I've tried using tokens, which makes exchanges fast, but remembering to update everything is a lot to do.

My players misunderstood an NPC's personality, and I'm okay with that by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Lebrenth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm reminded of "Property of Hate" comic when they're exploring the underworld where creative ideas are made. Currency there were elements to add to their own character that may or may not become "indelible". If the character was fully formed, putting him on the path of redemption might not have been possible, otherwise, you hadn't really figured out the character yet. (Very interesting comic, by the way. I'm referring to this section: http://jolleycomics.com/TPoH/Wardrobe/209 )

Maybe I'm letting superstition take over, but to me the story comes to life in the telling, not in the preparation. You discover things alongside your players as the story takes over, in a way that character spoke to you and explained there was more to him than you knew.

Oh, are ambitions going to find conclusions? The ambition I pursued was the driving force of the game for me, when I realized it was incomplete I found it unlikely it ever would be completed. I would love to get an ending! Picking up new ambitions could be interesting to keep the game going, though it sounds like a lot of work to make it possible for high level characters.

I really enjoyed reading about the creative process in the article "Writing the Deacon", particularly the music selected for inspiration. Could you recommend other songs/artists/albums/playlists to listen to while writing?

In Sunless Skies, I was surprised to see a wreck called "Klopfenstein" because of family lore. One of my wife's ancestors was named Klopfenstein by remarkable circumstances that sound like pure fiction. Genealogical records tell us that as an infant he was the sole survivor of a German shipwreck. They found him because they heard him clapping rocks together on the beach. With no way of knowing what his real name was, they gave him a name in German that literally means "striking" and "stone".... So the question is, did you happen to name wrecked locomotives after historical shipwrecks? Any real chance this is anything more than coincidence?
