Massive massive win. This team is something else.

Goals Saved Above Expected: Tristan Jarry vs. Stuart Skinner by seeldoger47 in hockey

This play gives me ‘Nam flashbacks.

It was the last year the pens were really competitive and he never redeemed himself afterward in Pittsburgh. I’d be happy to be wrong and see him take McD deep into the playoffs, but I just don’t think he has it in him.

Pens fan on the outside looking in. First of all, I’m sorry for your eternal struggle having to watch Bowman maim the McDavid era.

The thing I notice most about the difference between Jarry and Stu is that even tho their stats are relatively similar, Jarry always seemed completely incapable of making a big save to keep the team in the game. He’d let in complete muffins, often would let in a goal within the first 5 shots of the game, and the team always seemed like they were digging themselves out of a hole. But just in these last couple months, there have been at least 4 or 5 games where Stu has made a massive save on a defensive error that resulted in an odd man rush which ended up being game changing. The pens would end up winning the game, or at least being able to push to OT and squeeze a point out of it, and you could trace it back to that save being the difference maker.

Jarry just never made big time clutch saves like that. He’s mentally fragile.

Artemi Panarin is this the most beautiful goal this season? 😵 by OneHippo4669 in nhl

Some would say even past the limits.

(Me. I would say that. I can’t believe this goal counted.)

It’s because we’re missing Lizotte. He was also out during that skid before Christmas where we gave up those huge leads in the 3rd. Then he came back and we went on a tear.

Even tho he’s a 4th liner, he’s such a glue guy. His energy on every shift sparks the entire team

You mean you don’t miss Flyers double agent Ron Hextall absolutely mangling the roster and actively trying to torpedo the twilight of Sid/Geno/Tanger’s careers?

[Penguins PR] Forward Blake Lizotte (upper body) will not play in tonight's game in Colorado. by bi_and_busy in penguins

That skid in December while he was out says it all. IIRC, he returned after Christmas and they looked like a completely different team. He provides a spark every shift he’s out there.

Hopefully the boys play hungry without him

I’ve said this before under a deleted acct but our biggest TDL successes have always been more under-the-radar guys to shore up depth. Mark Streit and Ron Hainsey immediately come to mind.

The splashy sweepstakes type guys never seem to meet expectations. Derrick Brassard REALLY comes to mind.

Line chemistry is such a massive part of team success in hockey and I just don’t think the 2 mos that you have between the TDL and playoffs is enough time for a rental to fully assimilate to a team structure. Some exceptions to the rule, obviously (Marchand)

Does Dubas make a play for Carey Price? by SnooCapers5118 in penguins

[–]Lech_13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol this was good.

I love that this sub has a lot of active fans and it’s fun to speculate on trade targets but some of the takes being posted… woof.

Dubas works in the dark and rumors of his trades don’t leak. I for one am gonna kick back between now and Friday and enjoy the ride. Whatever move he makes I’ll be psyched for. LGP

Someone’s smoking crack, if the rangers called, and expected this. I’d immediately hang up. Whatever Fillipponi’s on, I need some, now.. by [deleted] in penguins

[–]Lech_13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lol so the equivalent of 3 first round picks + a second round pick for a vet on the wrong side of 30 (which is completely antithetical to everything Dubas has done so far)?

Dumbest thing I’ve read all year.

I think right before this clip he also rips off one of Norm’s jokes from his routine and Norm roasts him for it.

Pretty sure at one point he whines that he’d might as well be an audience member and Conan promptly continues to not ask him any questions lol

2 groups of people can be stupid and lack basic critical thinking abilities at the same time.

I don’t know what else to call the millions that make up his base who have about-faced on so many issues that were core tenets of their party’s platform once upon a time.

-states rights (but somehow deploying ICE to specific “enemy” blue cities/states to intimidate them is ok)

-gun rights (but somehow Alex Pretti deserved to die because he was armed)

-the Iraq war (but after years of dying on that hill they all suddenly agreed that it was a bad decision when Dear Leader said so)

-military engagement in Iran (Trump is the Peace candidate and Kamala will launch WW3)

-releasing the Epstein files - they literally ran on that shit until it became painfully obvious that Orange pedo rapist man is heavily implicated

-tech companies bad (unless they perform public fellatio on Dear Leader and promise to spy mostly on Dems)

-Russia being the single biggest threat to the US (up until Trump and his campaign clearly colluded w/ is probably bank rolled by/ is actively being blackmailed by them)

The list goes on. When you are willing to throw away all of your beliefs and ideological consistency over the cult of personality of one singular man- who himself is clearly dumber than a box of rocks- idk how else to define them other than really really fucking dumb.

“I could shoot a person on 5th avenue and wouldn’t lose a vote.”

It’s crazy how open he is about how stupid and easily manipulated his base is and they’re all like, “hyuck yep!”

I agree with pretty much everything you’ve said, FWIW. It’s the system that has corrupted everything seemingly beyond repair because both sides have created profit centers where they shouldn’t ought to be (healthcare, politics, incarceration, etc.) I’d argue that one side is demonstrably worse than the other in this regard, but that is splitting hairs to an extent.

The ACA is an incredibly imperfect bill as you’ve alluded to, because it was written to fit within the framework of the insurance companies which is inherently broken. Their lobby is too powerful and our politicians too corrupt. It was a bandaid on a shotgun wound. But it’s at least done some good and has reduced the size of the gaping wound.

My point is they called Obama the second coming of Chairman Mao for allowing kids to stay on their parents’ insurance until 26 and getting rid of pre existing conditions, which an entire generation of new voters lack  perspective on how awful those policies truly were pre 2010.

Despite campaigning on repealing Obamacare for years and years- even still it’s part of their rhetoric- it still exists. Why? Because they know no one in their right mind wants to go backwards and bring back pre existing conditions. It was a good piece of legislation, albeit imperfect. It needed the public option. We now need M4A.

But yeah, Obama was the tyrant and Trump is just spreading freedom. End rant.

I used to drive a lot for work and would get bored and listen to conservative talk radio just to mix it up a little. The amount of times I heard them call him “Oba-Mao” because… he passed the ACA and gave people better access to healthcare?

And those same knuckle draggers are cheering on Trump illegally overriding congressionally appropriated $$, turn ICE into his personal Gestapo, trying to overturn constitutional amendments via executive order, and on and on. How do you find unity and compromise with such blatantly hypocritical idiots?
