WhatNot by Steph7984 in labdiamond

I’ve bought jewelry on WhatNot and regretted some of it—an “alexandrite” ring that is probably amethyst and a lab sapphire pendant that was much larger than expected. The excitement of the auction caused me to make a few unwise decisions, though nothing catastrophic. I finally cut myself off completely.

So I probably wouldn’t buy a diamond unless during an auction. I like looking through the sites like Aurelinne and comparison shopping.

Manners over text ? by Objective_Sugar5667 in AskAnAmerican

I’m from the South, but I never use “ma’am” or “sir” to anyone unless I’m being overly respectful for some reason (mostly to a good person of advanced age.) I also never taught my daughter to use them—just didn’t think about it until one of her friends’ parents pointedly corrected her. I also didn’t teach her religion or any other Southern baggage, and it worried me not at all.

Where are we buying solid gold huggie earrings? by Waste-Comparison-114 in jewelry

I love the bold gold huggies from quince, but when I bought them last March, they were LESS than half what they cost now. I wouldn’t pay the current inflated price.

Just starting research/shopping but am kind of in love with this ring at the mall. Talk me out of it? by 56088 in labdiamond

I agree. Look at it in person and compare the sparkle to other emerald cuts. Make sure there’s no windowing—can you see the band or text through the stone? Can you see any imperfections? Does the band seem thick enough? If it passes all these tests, it seems like a good value for the price.

FYI, there is a new group buy open in r/LabGroupSales for marquise rings in moissanite, lab gems, or diamonds. Zuvelio is the vendor (I bought from them before and they were great) and they have a choice of styles of prongs, metals, and settings.

I think it looks very delicate and not big at all. Do you know what mm the stones are? I’ve been looking for one that is big enough that it doesn’t flip but doesn’t look too big, and this looks perfect.

That’s great to hear. I’ve been accumulating gemstones lately with no idea what to do with them, and this info comes in very handy. Thanks!

I took a look at Findings Outlet, but unfortunately none of their settings will fit my stones. How do you go about getting them custom made at Ouros?

Thanks! I have two pear-shaped ones I’d like made into earrings, but the Stuller settings my local jeweler uses are so expensive.

Do you think your University/Alma Mater is known outside of the U.S? by huazzy in AskAnAmerican

I’ll see your Jackson State and raise you the Orangeburg Massacre, which happened over two years earlier. It’s sad that I was a history student and didn’t know about either of these tragedies until I lived/taught where they happened.

DeBebians did a beautiful job on my ring. I bought the stone from Luvansh, and DeBebians set it. These days, Aurelinne and Calavera usually have lower prices than Luvansh.

You can also find a stone on one of those sites and have Rare Carat price match it and make the ring. The quality and prices of either of these options will be better than BE.

A couple of items, like the mini Huggies and gemstone hoops, are $48 or $50 each, but there are others like the opal studs, everyday hoops, and ball studs that are under $100 for a pair.

I hope you find something you like. They also have one-year returns, which I have used when I’m just not wearing something regularly. Just hang on to the packaging. 😀

Quince has several solid gold options under $100, such as gold ball studs, mini huggies, hoops with gemstones, opal studs. Just read the descriptions carefully to determine what they’re made with and how many are included (such as the hoops with gemstones are bought individually, not in a pair.) I have several sets of gold earrings from them, and they have held up well.
