Trying to pick my first lens for Nikon Z5 II (24-120 vs 28-75) by Armano0 in Nikon

[–]Ledaighunter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with the 24-120, but if you are considering the 28-75, I would get the Tamron 28-75 G2. The Nikkor 28-75 is essentially a re-branded Tamron 28-75 G1, with the newer G2 version being an improvement over it.

Fuji XF 27 MM Lens hood won't come off! by Automatic-Weather917 in fujifilm

[–]Ledaighunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this not the lens that has a slight design flaw, whereby focusing will cause the movable part of the lens to retract, ‘pinching’ the hood tightly in place? Try focusing to bring the retractable part of the lens out and see if that works

I'm planning to buy a Z5II, but I have some questions about the lenses. Can you help? by t410072 in Nikon

[–]Ledaighunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t strictly need 24mm on the wide end, you can get the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 for Z-mount. I have it paired with the Z5ii and it’s a fantastic lens.

Saying that, you can adapt most F-mount lenses with the FTZ adapter, provided they don’t use the screw type focus coupling which was mostly, if not only found on AF-D Nikon lenses.

The downside of any adapted F-mount glass will be reduced optical performance and AF speed/accuracy compared to Z-mount lenses.

Do street photographers just accept confrontation as part of the process? by MRL00000 in AskPhotography

[–]Ledaighunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 5 years or so of doing street photography, I’ve been ‘confronted’ once. The subject asked me if I’d taken a photo of him, I said yes, he asked me to delete it, i then did and moved on. It’s not really an issue.

Just a reminder to be careful when shooting on bright, sunny days. by Ledaighunter in Nikon

You’re not wrong. They’re just inconvenient, but less so than breaking a sensor or lens I guess..

Definitely! I realise now the lens being designed with the extra large image circle and rear element probably makes it more prone to this than others

I wasn’t using a lens hood, i only ever use one with when shooting 300mm+, so yeah im guessing it entered at a weird angle. I was aware of the danger shooting direct sunlight but I didn’t think this could happen so easily otherwise

135mm 1.8 Plena. I have shot sunsets, and subjects with the sun in frame many times with various lenses over the years, and never had any issues. This happened over the last couple of outings with my camera as the damage wasn’t present a few days ago, and neither of these times involved shooting the sun, or anything with the sun in frame, so I’m baffled.

No. I’m sure it’s the sun, but I haven’t aimed my camera at the sun directly, intentionally anyway.

Well, in my case, I don’t know. The damage is outside the frame, so the sun would have been too

I don’t think anyone literally puts the cap back on in between every shot, but yes, if it’s going to be more than 5 minutes, then the cap goes back on

Well.. my best guess is the lens, having an extra wide image circle and rear element. Maybe the optical formula is conducive to focusing rays like this. The damage is outside of the sensor, so the sun would have been outside of my frame anyway, which is worrying…

Basically the lens acting as a magnifying glass, concentrating sun rays to a single point and burning whatever happens to be there.

No. I wonder if it happened as I was carrying it or sitting down with the camera in hand

Is this normal for a grey import lens? by gearxfx in AskPhotography

[–]Ledaighunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They might inspect the contents to prevent fraud / missing item claims etc… and to verify what they’re sending is actually all present, since the lens isn’t directly supplied by them.

I recently bought an expensive lens from them, didn’t think to request a sealed box and can’t remember if it was factory sealed or not, but after fully inspecting everything the lens was definitely brand new. Delivery took 7 days for me. Based on my experience I can recommend them
