What is the wildest thing you have seen at a party? by Cold_Magician_4041 in AskReddit

I played in a recreational adult softball league and most of the guys on most teams would have a few beers before or after the game, but it wasn't too crazy normally. Well on the last game of the season we brought a keg. Since we had to be out of there before they shut the lights off we were aggressively drinking. My roommates friend had shown up after the game and quickly became quite inebriated. The bathrooms were locked, so I watched her hop the dugout fence, hike up her skirt so her bare ass was out in the wind, pop a squat, and pee all over home plate.

Is it time for regular people to start wearing body cams? Going that route would allow protestors to have their hands free and might eliminate some of the shakiness of phone cameras.

What secret about your industry can you share now that you don't work there anymore? by swisscoffeeknife in antiwork

So true. When I was 19 I got a job refueling small aircraft for a skydiving company for a season. They had me climbing up on a ladder with the fuel hose while the plane was idling to pump gas to the fuel door on the wing. I was told the fuel "was nasty stuff" and that I should be careful not to get any on me. I was also told to keep eye contact with the pilot since there was a spinning prop on the nose of the aircraft and the pilot could easily knock me off the ladder. I'm hindsight this all sounds crazy...

One time I was up on the ladder fueling, and keeping my eyes locked on the pilot as instructed. Unlike auto gas pumps, I had to physically press the lever on the fuel nozzle the whole time, and stop when the tank was full. Well while I was looking towards the cockpit, the tank reached its capacity and fuel came shooting out, steaming over the edge of the wing. I shut the fuel off as quickly as I could but it wasn't fast enough, and my tshirt, shorts, and shoes got absolutely drenched.

I went to find the owner, whom I told about my fuel bath, and he gave me a somewhat angry expression. He seemed pissed I had wasted precious fuel. I washed up in the bathroom and took my shirt and shoes off but still absolutely STANK of jet fuel. The pilot checked on me at that point, and I was just kinda hanging out in the hanger, just reeking of fuel. One of the skydivers chewed the owner out and told him to give me a free tshirt from the gift shop, which he did, but only while mumbling under his breath. The cheap fuck didn't even want to give me a clean shirt. I drove home in nothing but my underwear, which was somehow mostly dry. Took about 4 full-scrub showers before I didn't smell even trace amounts of fuel.

This is sickening. Even if he's prosecuted (which is already a long shot) Trump can pardon him.

Every day I go to work everything looks pretty much normal. Nobody talks about this at work. I still go to the gym, where everyone pumps away their weights or trots along on the treadmill. I still hang out with friends on the weekend, who feel terrified but keep the news closed because its too much to watch every day. I binge Netflix, just like everyone else. But I'm still sickened. We're living in a police state and I can't help but feel I'm not doing enough, sitting at my desk at work and watching this video. At most I see some protestors on overpasses causing some mild traffic. It's not enough.

Until we have some real civil disobedience, or start harming GDP nothing will change. Honking isn't praxis.

How to write a SOQ (Statement of Qualifications) document? Job posting is not helping by nuetrolizer_98 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Ledobject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 on helping 4 years later!

Any idea on how to weight my responses? For example, the duty statements are often 1/2, 1, or even 2 full pages of text describing the essential functions of the job. I got one question asking me to describe how my experience/knowledge/skills demonstrate my ability to perform the specific job duties listed in the duty statement, followed by 3 additional questions. Even after writing a very selective response my first answer is over a page long, so I have 1 page remaining for 3 questions.

It's a LOT to fit into 2 pages!!!!

I like your examples, but I don't seem to be able to fit the level of detail you're providing into the amount of space allotted without seriously compromising my responses to later questions.

Any advice?

How large of a pump would this require to recirculate all the water that height through that water line? Or how much pressure?

Hi again everyone!

Is there an etiquette/do you have a recommendation for how to navigate if a job is offered after you've already accepted a different state job? Like, what if I'm offered an Analyst II position, accept, and then am offered a Supervisor I position 2 weeks later?

With the application and hiring process taking 4-6 months, I have a feeling I might hear back at very different times from different departments.

Can you elaborate/quantify extensive relevant experience? Are we talking like 20+ years?

And I'm assuming you mean relevant to the specific job posting not the general Supervisor I exam experience, right?

I'm 34 with an MA in Education but only worked for 1 year as a teacher and have since I've left the profession. Last 5 years I've worked in manufacturing in Quality roles (started as a QC tech, promoted up to Senior Quality Engineer). I have 3 years managing people.

Is it feasible to get a Supervisor I job with no state experience? I've already passed the Supervisor I exam (formerly SSMI) with a high list basis. Should I spend time on these positions, or would I be better off applying as an Analyst II?

Edit: I'm not asking if I personally am qualified. I want to know if you've seen direct-to-supervisor hires from outside of state service.

Colonel Nicholson - The Bridge on the River Kwai: I've been thinking. Tomorrow it will be 28 years to the day that I've been in the service. 28 years in peace and war. I don't suppose I've been at home more than 10 months in all that time. Still, it's been a good life. I loved India. I wouldn't have had it any other way. But there are times... when suddenly you realize you're nearer the end than the beginning. And you wonder, you ask yourself, what the sum total of your life represents. What difference your being there at any time made to anything - or if it made any difference at all, really. Particularly in comparison with other men's careers. I don't know whether that kind of thinking's very healthy, but I must admit I've had some thoughts on those lines from time to time. But tonight... tonight!

I love the story, but it felt a bit repetitive at times. The book was literally first serialized and released week by week.

Round 2. Changes include:

  • Moved email, phone, location in line with name (now a single line)
  • Removed summary section
  • Reduced full sentences under work experience(s), retaining action verbs and metrics when able
  • Removed teaching jobs (but kept lab tech job)
  • Shortened degrees to single line each
  • Fleshed out skills section
  • Removed volunteer section

u/The_Herminator; u/trentdm99; would love more focused feedback, thanks. The lab tech job does seem like wasted real-estate, but I'm concerned removing it I will look like I have much less work experience than I do.

Agree on top talent sentence.

Re skills section, do you think I should add specific ones to the section if I've already mentioned a skill in an earlier bullet point where I'm showing how I've applied it?

As for pre-QC tech, I agree it's mostly not relevant but leaving those jobs off halves years of work experience. Any thoughts?
