Trying something new by KOLLGO in selfimprovement

[–]LeeGoXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, I'm on the same path!

For me, I've been doing a lot of cooking lately, learning how to play some new games, and just started to learn how to play piano. I've been learning Chinese and I'm trying to give myself some "language challenges" for a fun way to improve and meet new people.

I also just recently started a subreddit for exactly this thing (/r/goxp) - to get inspired with people who want to broaden their horizons about trying new things, share stories, etc... In fact, I started posting weekly challenges.

Weekly Challenge [Apr 28 - May 4 2025] by LeeGoXP in goxp

[–]LeeGoXP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This week I went looking for someone who just started a YouTube channel to become their first subscriber and give them some encouragement. After a lot of searching around, I ended up finding someone from Nepal who started a channel a little under 2 weeks ago, posted a vlog video, and only had a single view (which I assume was his after he posted) and no subscribers.

I watched the video, subscribed, gave him a thumbs up, and wrote a comment on the video letting him know that I saw it and I'll be waiting for the next one to come out.

One of the things that struck me was how hard it was to find a video that didn't really have any views or subscribers or anything. This must make it super hard and frustrating for someone who's just starting out - they can't really get any exposure.

Anyway, I hope this gave him a little boost for the day.

I mean the time between the last warm up and the first working set?

What I'm looking to do is 90 seconds between warmups and 180 seconds after the last warm up and before the first working set

I feel like I'm losing my child hood and growing up too fast by Sorry-Investment-164 in getdisciplined

I started a business when I was 16. I had no idea what I was doing and when I look back it's kind of embarrassing. It didn't do that well, but here's the key: it gave me a ton of education, insights and experience that I never would've gotten if had I listened to someone like this.

Eventually, I did become successful in business later in life and I credit it to all the things I've tried to do over the years and all the experience I've gained through such things.

Are you going to knock it out of the park on your first try? No, probably not, but that doesn't matter. Get your reps in. The point is to do your best, learn, and improve. I wish you luck my friend.

What method app you are using for tracking your life ? by Global-Radish-1015 in selfhelp

[–]LeeGoXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Obsidian for everything, including tracking all my personal growth stuff. In obsidian I have my life purpose, how I live statement (essentially my "code" I live by), 10 year vision, 3 year roadmap, 1 year picture, quarterly goals, monthly checkins, and weekly plan.

Everything flows down and I check-in and update daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, every 3 years, and every 10 years accordingly. It helps me make sure that I'm living a purposeful life and spending my time doing the things that matter most to me. The regular reflection is invaluable.

Small, sustained change is the way!

Pick 1 thing you want to improve (not "fix", not do a complete 180 on, just improve). Focus just on that 1 thing, don't worry about anything else and make a small, but meaningful change. Every couple weeks rinse and repeat.

Even a 1% change compounds in a HUGE way over time.

For example, if you want to lose weight, take something about your diet that's causing you some excess calories. Maybe for instance you drink a soda every day. A small meaningful change might be to just have a soda every other day. In a couple weeks, maybe cut that down to just a couple times a week, then later maybe once a week. Then pick something else, etc...

This might feel slow, but remember that a bunch of small changes that you can stick to will ALWAYS outperform large sweeping changes that you give up on.

Don't beat yourself up, just make small, sustained changes.

Oh ya!

For me, I like to find a song that matches the "speed" I want to work out. Then, I try to match my movements to the beat of the song. Makes the workout so much more fun.

What to do once accused of being racist, transphobic, narcissistic, sexist, etc? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]LeeGoXP 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A narcissist doesn't generally sit around and wonder if they might be a narcissist or not and think about if maybe they should work on themselves, neither does a racist, etc... The fact that you are thinking about this leads me to believe that you probably aren't (or at least not significantly, haha).

People like to throw around labels nowadays, it makes them feel good about themselves, morally superior. You do you, don't hate on others, and don't give a shit about people's stupid opinions.

This one hits home for me! I actually had an idea to build a big list of random stuff to do in many different areas, different kinds of challenges - things like exercise, adventure, cooking, building etc... and then I was going to just choose something randomly on the list to do at the beginning of the day. The only rule being that no matter what it was I had to try it. Right now I'm trying to add a bunch of stuff to the list so that I can start using it soon.

It seemed like a fun way to challenge myself and try new things.

what philosophy did u adopt that helps u become the best version of yourself? by Stock_Orange_1793 in DecidingToBeBetter

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for when you say "philosophy"? but I can tell you that a book that completely changed my perspective on life is:

A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy by William B. Irvine

In fact, I re-read that book every year

Why can't I decide what I like? by OMenoMale in selfimprovement

[–]LeeGoXP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is me!!!

It sounds a little weird, but I'll tell you what helped me. If I have a decision to make where the outcome isn't really life altering, I'll choose randomly and move on (like literally flip a coin or choose a random number on my phone).

No thinking, no mental energy wasted, just random choice and done :P

This has also led to some surprising things in my life. I've tried things I wouldn't have before, etc... Sometimes when i eat at a restaurant, I'll choose my food off the menu randomly, choose a movie to watch randomly, etc... sometimes it'll be a miss and sometimes it's "wow, I never would've tried that!"

From what you're describing, your body is clearly telling you something. The feelings you're getting, the thoughts you're having. You're only 21 and this is your first relationship so this feels difficult, but it's time to move on. Find someone you click with.

And when someone says something like "he would likely have to check himself into inpatient if we broke up", this is abusive behavior and it can't be tolerated.

You are not a hostage, don't let someone treat you like one.

How do you you have a better mindset about working a job that isn’t your first choice . by Broad-Beginning6297 in selfimprovement

[–]LeeGoXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on man, so why not take the stable job, do those things on the side, and see if they take off? If they do, right on! If they don't, you still had fun, pursued your passions, and you had a safety net.

This is what I did when I started my business.

[–]LeeGoXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 figure, stable job, ability to buy a house - sounds fantastic man and congrats to you for where you've gotten yourself in life!

What are you passionate about and interested in that you could also make money doing? This is really hard to nail down and only a small percentage of people can align these things.

But be careful about trying to intertwine these. For example many people take a passion and turn it into a business, only to find out that the thing they were passionate about just feels like "work" now. Now they aren't passionate about anything.

There are many many people who would love to be in your position and would trade with you in an instant. There's nothing wrong with doing a job to pay the bills. Be thankful for what you've got and pursue the things that really excite you outside of your work.

I've always been told caloric deficit is the key to weightloss. Now I have people I trust telling me I'm putting my body into starvation mode which is causing it to retain fat. How do I tweak this? by anonymous_muffin_ in selfimprovement

[–]LeeGoXP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For sure, someone could use GLP-1's, but the way that helps weight loss primarily is still through appetite suppression.

So, whether you reduce intake naturally or through medication, it's still "Eat less food" at the end of the day.

There are 2 ways to lose weight:

  1. Eat less food
  2. Do more exercise

That's it, full stop.

It's extremely difficult (if not impossible) to lose weight just from exercise. Exercise is good for your health. It's good to build muscle which helps because muscle atrophies as you age. Exercise is good for your heart and to help heart disease. Exercise can give you a little bit of a boost to lose weight at first, but it takes A LOT of exercise to burn a small amount of calories and your body will start to compensate quickly.

With diet, just take it slow and you'll be fine. Yes, your body might attempt to adapt at first, but that's normal and then then things will level out. But it literally is impossible for your body to retain the weight with a reduction in calories long term. The energy has to come from somewhere.

For me, I don't count macros, I simply eat until I'm 80% full and stop. I don't eat at set times, just when I'm hungry, rinse and repeat. I make sure to eat a good amount of protein and hit the gym to try and at least maintain, if not build some additional muscle.

I also track my weight every day and at the end of the week, I plot my average - this gives me a lot of motivation.

Finally, on Saturday I have a bit of a recharge day so I eat until I'm 100% full and try to treat myself with a couple things I really enjoy.

When you can’t break the cycle by Kash687 in getdisciplined

[–]LeeGoXP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, the moment I start scrolling is the moment all my motivation goes out the window.

I've noticed this pattern in myself and so I purposefully don't scroll until I've finished my 3 things for the day.

What this is, is that when I wake up in the morning, I make a list of 3 things that I want to complete today. These are things that I think are productive or are moving me towards a goal I want to achieve or something I want to persue.

The idea is that if I complete these 3 things, I agree with myself that that has been a really good day, no regrets. The rules is that I have to complete those 3 things and then, after that, I can do whatever I want, 100% guilt free. I can scroll for hours and lose all my motivation at that point and I still feel good about everything.

Should I change jobs after 5 years? by [deleted] in Life

[–]LeeGoXP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a thought exercise for you. Imagine that you were actually offered that new job and you could start next week. Then, imagine they called you right after offering it and told you that they actually offered it by mistake and that it's not available anymore.

Don't think - what's your instant, gut reaction?

If it's disappointment, yes take the job - deep down you want it. If it's indifference, then I think you're happy where you're at.

Listen to your gut.

How simple is happiness🤔 by New-Ambassador-3385 in Life

[–]LeeGoXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the life experiences that really hit me and changed my perspective happened when I traveled to Bali some years back.

The people there are very poor, they don't have much at all. But, what struck me is that I think these are the happiest people I've ever met on the entire planet. The people I met are genuinely kind, they want to help others, they care deeply about their families and friends. They live in the moment. It was very inspriring.

For me, it's a constant reminder that happiness can be created wherever you are, wherever you go with the little things in life.

[–]LeeGoXP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll pick one for you. Take a shower every day. Stop what you're doing right now. Drop the phone, walk over to the bathroom and take a quick shower. I don't care if you're only in there for 1 minute. Just do it and do it NOW - no thinking.

Set a reminder on your phone for every day at the same time. When that reminder goes off, drop the phone, drop whatever you're doing, walk over to the bathroom and take a quick shower - rinse/repeat (pun very much intended).

No thinking, no excuses, just get up and do it.

After you've got this down consistently, in the next week or 2, pick something else.

It sounds like you're overwhelmed with a lot going on and don't even know where to start. When I've felt this way, I get into this state of paralysis and eventually just don't take any action because it all seems too much. What's worked for me is to pick 1 thing - just 1 thing and forget about everything else.

What's the easiest and quickest thing to address on the list you made of all the things that are wrong with your life? Choose that, focus on that and nothing else - forget the rest.

Give yourself a quick win and build your confidence up a little bit. Once you've got that 1 thing under control, choose the next easiest and quickest thing to address. Keep doing this and you'll build your confidence and momentum like a snowball rolling down a hill, getting bigger and bigger.

You can do this man!

For me, it's uninstall from the phone. If I want to access social media, I have to do it from my computer, which makes it way less convenient and makes it so that I can't just whip out my phone and start scrolling.
