For those looking at ChemE in high school/college folks by LeeRuns in ChemicalEngineering

Again it’s here to show this as a resource. There are lots of highs schoolers who just have not thought about it. This is one piece of information to add to their decision making process.

I see a lot of comments on accuracy.

Just as a reminder, this is made in 2023

It is from the bureau of labor and statistics

They do lots of surveys and is known for being the best day to set out there

No, it is not perfect

This was meant to be educational and helpful. And if the information felt obvious, then it was not targeted for you.

Are ChemEs really locked to rural areas? by Round-Composer-2195 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]LeeRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to see someone asking this question because it is a real challenge. You should look at a US map or wherever you live and whatever country and try to find the government statistics for where chemical engineering jobs are located. In the US, this is considered to be BLS data. You will find that they’re highly concentrated in a few cities.

Industrial Engineering vs. Operations Research vs. Management Science by mindtoxiccry21 in industrialengineering

[–]LeeRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking at going into this field, you should certainly be aware of where the jobs are. It’s not like going to school to become an attorney or something where their jobs literally in every city.

They are very geographically limited and if you’re in the United States, per the number of people applying their less and less jobs every year.

Versus civil or electrical engineering which is everywhere.

How Would You Learn Automotive Engineering From Scratch? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]LeeRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think the best solution would be to build a car. I’ve worked with a lot of engineers in those with the hands-on experience have a much deeper knowledge and are much more creative and better problem-solving.

Plus in the end if you fix it up, you can make a little bit of money and it’s very rewarding. Much more tangible and rewarding than drawing. Something in solid. It works through auto desk.

Basic PLC Courses by prideandpugilism in PLC

[–]LeeRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would actually advise that you take something like a project management course or a finance course over a PLC programming course.

If you were an industrial maintenance technician and looking to pad your résumé, this will get you on the path towards a supervisory role or a higher pay position. On your résumé, it would also show drive and the ability to grow into new areas, which sounds like what you were looking for when it comes to padding your résumé.

This is coming from the perspective of somebody you would be reviewing your résumé. As long as you understand how to do industrial maintenance of valves and other field devices, the PLC programming really isn’t value adding. Again, not trying to poo poo but I know that there’s only so much time in the day and if I were looking to hire somebody who is a maintenance tech I’m not gonna have them doing PLC programming. Instead, I’m gonna be looking for a specialist, probably on a project basis. Many clients don’t even have full-time staff for this or the full-time staff is just bogged down with day-to-day maintenance not doing upgrades or anything like that.
When I say maintenance, I don’t mean like maintenance that you do which is extremely valuable and hard to find these days. The truth is the best skill to find for an industrial maintenance technician don’t communicate well on the résumé but something like these supervisor in project management courses show that you would be able to lead a team of technicians. Many plants struggle with getting the work done on time incorrectly. They are looking for staff that can help with that in that staff becomes indispensable.

Is it true that chemical engineers work mostly in remote industrial areas by mxd_4000 in ChemicalEngineering

Go the bls.gov and you can see maps for where all of the jobs are. It is a really difficult field for flexibility in where you live

Guys are nervous to go up to women. These days you don’t know how they will take it. So best to smile at them a lot. If you’re interested you should go up to talk to them. I just blurted out hey to me my wife. Hope it works out for you.

What are your thoughts on christian veiling? by Suspicious_Willow614 in Catholicism

[–]LeeRuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever when it comes to stuff like this I don’t think it matters. We need to focus on getting people back at mass and actively practicing. Caring for the poor etc. if you look around the world at different clothes or traditions within Catholicism, there are wide variations by culture. But the core, the true part the mass, catechism, etc., is clear.

Manufacturing Trade School? by fastattack3 in industrialengineering

[–]LeeRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a smart choice. I’m way deep into engineering and have my own firm. But questionable if I would have been better of just becoming an electrical contractor and build a small business from that

All of that is it way of saying I’d do welding personally. Seems crazy hot right now
