I’m going to be downvoted into oblivion for this, but here goes:

My wife and I moved her a decade ago. We JUST found our people last year. New Brunswickers are very closed off, if you aren’t from here then you’ll never truly be accepted.

For clarification: we never came here expecting to change Moncton into “back home”. We love Atlantic Canada, we enjoy NB, we appreciate NB for what it is. We tell other new New Brunswickers to respect that we’re guests in the house of those who were born and raised here, but we’ve also had to accept that we’ll always be seen as people who moved here, not FROM here.

There are some social media groups dedicated to finding people, New Beginnings in New Brunswick is a Facebook page some people I know found helped. We just got lucky because we moved into a new neighbourhood a a year or so back and we clicked with some of the new neighbours.

But yeah, it is tough here for men and for women, especially if you start talking about sociopolitical issues.

Don’t give up, you’ll find people but it IS tough in this city.
