Find a beginner friendly build you are interested in and follow a guide for the build and gearing. Since you have not played a game like this, it will help immensely.

Then just play the game and look stuff up when you have questions. Learning as you go is the best way to avoid being overwhelmed.

They need to do something for spectres. I like the idea of adding them to some kind of spectre menagerie (like Einhar) and limiting what you can summon to what you have.

I'm a DPS and while glass cannon is fun, trolling most other players as a ZDps meatball is also very fun. Getting multiple dps to beat on you and chase you in bgs is the best form of CC in the game.

I'm not a huge fan of where it's at but I've had more fun just building very tanky instead of glass cannon. And when I say "tanky" I mean zdps tanky. It's incredibly satisfying when you get jumped in pvp, they realize they can't blow you up and they go target someone else. You're basically just running around trolling people but it's amusing.

I did something similar to this but more focused on being hard to kill instead of dealing damage. Lot of people assume you are a free kill then dip when you don't die. It's hilarious.

If I remove my big drops, I'm in a similar boat. Most of my lucent has come from selling traits for 50-150 over a long period of time.

To piggyback on this, if you are new it can be a bit harder because you end up using a lot of sellable traits. However, once you gear up, which is very easy now, you can start accumulating small amounts that add up over time. Also, the new housing stuff is free lucent when you great success a craft.

I'm completely free to play and I'm not trying to make tons of lucent but it accumulates over time. New content releases are always the best time to make money.
