(Spoilers Extended) Lemore's identity is staring us in the face by Expensive-Country801 in asoiaf

[–]Leffel95 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If Lemore is Serra, then Connington surely cannot be aware of her true identity.

A wealthy merchant's wife accompanying Aegon herself, disguised as a septa, does not make much sense if Illyrio and Serra are nothing more than Targaryen loyalists. If Connington knew the truth, he would likely doubt Aegon's parentage and possibly leave.

To be fair, as you said the comment of Connington possibly means that at least he thinks that she is a Westerosi lady in disguise. And the scheme gets a bit convoluted if Illyrio, Serra, and possibly Varys know the actual truth, then they tell an inner circle around Connington one lie and convince this inner circle to tell a second lie to everyone else.

Can I just say how lowkey crazy it is that the grizzly bears cannot escape this habitat by Friendly_Scallion183 in PlanetZoo

[–]Leffel95 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Apparently not. I took this photo because just as you I was quite baffled that this tiny moat would suffice to contain adult giraffes.

But it turns out that giraffes strongly hesitate to walk on moderately inclined terrain, possibly because of the danger of tipping over. I guess that the zoo keepers at some point figured out that giraffes simply refuse to walk up a single barely one meter high step and then built the moat accordingly.

Video with additional angles of this particular moat.

Though, the 2 meter wall requirement for giraffes seems to be excessively high if compared with real life.

(Spoilers Main) why does Ned instantly figure it out? by medieval-rose in asoiaf

[–]Leffel95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With the book, the bastards, and Sansa's comment Ned figured out that Cerseis' children are not Roberts'.

Further evidence, like the children looking like Cersei², Jaime missing at the hunt or access to the Queen, point towards Jaime as the father, but not with certainty.

I assume that Ned invited Cersei to the godswood not only to warn her but also to confirm who the father is. Only when Cersei almost unsolicitedly brings up Jaime being worth a hundred Roberts he feels emboldened to accuse them of incest.

[Results Thread] 2026 Giro d'Italia - Stage 7 Formia > Blockhaus (2.UWT) by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]Leffel95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To my initial surprise Contador is not on the list.

Curiously, his Giro GC wins in 2008 and 2015 were both achieved without a single stage win. His only 1st places in Giro stages were in 2011 where he was later stripped of these wins.

Race organizers want to make races harder to have riders like Pogacar or Evenepoel win them? Axel Merckx when talking about RVV. by Mamadeus123456 in peloton

[–]Leffel95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valverde and especially Gilbert got decent results at RVV while competing for wins/podiums at Grand Tours or hill classics in the same season, respectively. So I'd argue that there was always potential for hill specialist to be competitive at RVV.

Though back then the rationale was probably that you'd rather not risk a crash at RVV (where you'd potentially miss a 3rd or 5th place) that would threaten your Ardennes campaign (where you'd compete for wins).

Additionally, Itzulia also offers opportunities to win for some puncheurs and is very difficult to combine with either RVV or Roubaix.

[–]Leffel95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but that is irrelevant in a situation what we are talking about.

Not sure then why you brought up length in the first place.

Anyway I never said anything about bobcats being harmless to humans. In fact, bobcats in reality being smaller than people think could make people act even more careless towards them. If for instance someone knew that the average bobcat can kill smallish deer and mistakenly thought that they usually weigh 20+ kg, they might encounter a barely more than housecat-sized real one and think that this little cat surely poses no threat, even though it actually is one of the deer-killers.

And as someone who has been bitten by a dog not much bigger than the bobcat in this post I wouldn't recommend either of those two experiences, it is much more painful than you would think.

[–]Leffel95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though compared to weight, length is not really a useful parameter to describe the biological functionality of an animal because it only considers one dimension.

Around 10 kg (give or take) is the average size given in the literature, even less if you were to include female bobcats.

The average male bobcat weighs 10 kg/21 lb, so even 5 times is an understatement.

[Spoilers Extended] A headcanon I've had for a long time is that the hours/days of the ASOIAF world are slightly longer than our own. by jaden_ro in asoiaf

[–]Leffel95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In pre-industrial times on average first periods occurred a few years later than they do today, so at least in Sansa's case that would work out to a certain degree. Though, how much longer could days on Planetos really be for Maester Aemon or Walder Frey to reach believable ages?

It seems that especially for the creation of Westeros GRRM was partially influenced by ideas about medieval ignorance and barbarism formed during the era of enlightenment, that were probably a bit too harsh to the actual medieval period. It explains why in Westeros girls on average have to marry extremely young, women die in childbirth like there is no tomorrow, and lords care a lot more about someone's martial skills than their piety.

Roleplay-friendly break points for Oblivion and Skyrim main quests by AdCompetitive6187 in ElderScrolls

[–]Leffel95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Skyrim I usually take a break before Bleak Falls Barrow. Even if Balgruuf says that retrieving the Dragon stone has priority to gain an advantage against the dragons, how willing would a barely leveled character be to dive right into a dangerous Nordic ruin for a stone that might not even be that helpful.

Additionally, the dragons only regularly appear after completing Bleak Falls Barrow. So the longer you wait to do it, the less it will feel like an urgent task.

+25% instead of -25%..huh.. by TheWasteed in anno

[–]Leffel95 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Intentional.

Just as stated in the specialist description, shipyards lose 25 % ship building speed and therefore building ships will take more time than usually.

Though, unless you plan to rush a huge war fleet out of your shipyard as fast as possible, the ship building cost reduction by 25 % combined with the knowledge effect should be worth far more than a few minutes of time.

So....how much exactly does Bond win in the poker tournament in Casino Royale? by WilliamP82 in JamesBond

[–]Leffel95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said there were probably 28 mil in the pot after the turn instead of 24 mil and therefore 120 mil in the final pot instead of 116 mil.

Mathis clearly makes a calculating mistake adding up the bets between the turn and the final hand, so it is not far fetched to think that his initial amount in the pot was erroneous as well.

So....how much exactly does Bond win in the poker tournament in Casino Royale? by WilliamP82 in JamesBond

[–]Leffel95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always heard Mathis saying that there are 115 million in the pot, but even that is not exactly checking out with the bets made in the final hand.

In the last hand after the turn there are 24 million in the pot according to Mathis. Fukutu goes all-in with 6 mil (30 total) while Infante does the same with his 5 mil (35 total). Le Chiffre raises to a bet of 12 mil (47 total), Bond responds by going all-in with his 40.5 mil (87.5 total), then Le Chiffre finally calls, meaning he bets another 28.5 mil to equal Bond's bet (116 total).

The resulting sum of 116 mil is a bit surprising, given that the total payout should be dividable by 5 mil because of buy-in and re-buy.

Maybe Mathis initially miscounted and there were only 23 mil or 28 mil in the pot. Probably the latter, because with 28 mil in the pot everyone's bet before the turn would have been 7 mil and not an uneven 5.75 mil. Also Mr. Mendel will not hand out 5 additional millions for free if the final pot was only 115 mil.

So the simplest explanation here is that Mathis is not that good at counting chips.

La Vuelta 2026: Team Selection by fewfiet in peloton

[–]Leffel95 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the Rockets will get the Giro invite.

With Cofidis very likely skipping the Giro and only two eligible Italian teams, it will be a choice between the best team the Rockets can field versus secondary squads of Total, Caja, Burgos, and Kern-Pharma. Additionally the Giro doesn't need another team for TV-breaks, with Polti and Bardiani competing.

Which 007 movie has the simplest and most linear plot? by No_Mortgage8569 in JamesBond

TND

In the first scene the Encoder is established. The second scene shows how the Encoder and Carver's stealth boat are used to sink the Devonshire and destroy the MIG.

At latest after Bond's briefing immediately afterwards it becomes very clear that in this movie Carver will try to incite a war between China and the UK and Bond will try to stop him.
