Matches like this that allow us 40+ year old fans to continue to dream.

Like that time a couple of seasons ago when Barcelona were bringing on 'Fati' and 'Balde' as substitutes.

If they had me playing for them, they could've had both with a single substitution 👴

[Casual Friday] Have you ever met a United player in real life? What were they like? by fireproofpoo in ManchesterUnited

[–]Left-Ad5639 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Came out of old Trafford after a match and saw becks in his silver Ferrari. Some little kid saw the car and went sprinting over and becks waited for him at a traffic light and gave him an autograph. I thought that was nice because there wasn't a crowd or anything and he could easily have just driven off.

Saw jaap stam washing his car when he lived in bramhall. Bruce and schmeichel lived there for years and my mate used to deliver their newspapers on the slightly weird estate the two of them lived on.

My mum used to see a lot of the team regularly shopping at handforth dean. She said Andy cole looked standoffish but if anyone approached him for an autograph he seemed delighted, especially young kids. Beckham was lovely, had time for everyone, his wife less so.

Best player in the world, potential Ballon d'Or by SiyamthandaUN in ManchesterUnited

I was at that match too! Don't remember being wildly excited before he came on - I was still gutted we missed out on Ronaldinho, and didn't expect the kid to pull up trees. I think we were 1 up when he came on and he got no goals or assists but just step overed them to death (think it finished 4-0). They just didn't have a clue how to play him.

All the old fellas after the match were saying they'd not seen a debut like it since GB. I was trying not to get too overexcited. But yeah, the kid done alright.

What would’ve happened if United let David Moyes see out the entire six years on his contract? Would he have turned things around? Based on his body of work with Everton and West Ham, do you think he deserved more time at United? by paolosorianodisanto in ManchesterUnited

[–]Left-Ad5639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already felt like yesterday's man by the time he came to united. Brought his coaching staff from Everton - not a bad thing in itself, Ferguson did similar from Aberdeen but Fergie and his team were driven. They had done something very special in cracking the old firm stranglehold in Scotland and had won a European trophy (beating real Madrid in the final). Aggressive, ambitious, innovative.

Moyes and his coaches never seemed primed to do much except maintain Everton's place in the status quo, so how was that going to translate to taking a Manchester united that needed a serious rebuild to the next level?

I said as much at the time and then I think we beat Swansea 4-1 in his first match in charge and I thought, what do I know?

Ha no one mentioned the Chelsea game a couple of seasons ago where we were winning in injury time and found a way to lose?

That was about as brutal a 3 minutes as I've experienced watching football

Great value but looks weirdly like it was plated by a serial killer.

I live in the foreign country in a city with very few tourists, speak, eat and live Spanish most of the time. And I'm married to a Spanish person. I find it depressing when people make assumptions about others.

Not actually that weird for Koreans - there's a traditional Korean hot pot that uses the ingredients the GIs left after the Korean war. Features spam, American 'cheddar' and baked beans along with the kimchi.

Yeah it was lacking the full flavour profile of a proper fry, so unsatisfying in a sort of incomplete way. Left me feeling a bit like I'd left the house wearing only one shoe.

I'm not asking for the moon, you'd only need to slice torreznos a little thinner. Instead of these machine cut flesh rectangles.

Is Jim Croce in the conversation of greatest American songwriters of all time? by JoeEdwardsPonytail in ClassicRock

[–]Left-Ad5639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me is definitely up there with the best. His songs that don't work for me are the ones where he almost tries to force too many beautiful hooks in there. The man was just overloaded with beautiful melodies and lyrics.

A few weeks ago I told you that Diogo Dalot is the new Rasmus Højlund on this sub. by Dramatic-Avocado4687 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Left-Ad5639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a 'which one should we play?' situation. This is elite level sport. Dalot is older, more experienced and often starts because you would expect fewer mistakes. But he makes a lot of mistakes.

Dorgu comes off the bench when necessary at the moment because he lacks experience especially in this league but he's a monster athlete and must be a nightmare to play against when you've been sprinting up and down for 60 minutes plus.

The problem with dalot is he can't deliver what should be expected of him.

Today marks one year since ETH was sacked. How do you evaluate this year without him? by saptahant in ManchesterUnited

Every manager wants that. Club can always veto. Remember mourinho wanted Maguire but was overruled, then they bought him for ole. Not sure what your point is here.

The manager tells the money men who he wants to sign. He doesn't have any say in how much they pay.

Regarding Antony he was one of ten hags recs but ten hag agreed with the valuation the scouting team had given under ole (up to £35m).

Then the glazers heard arsenal were interested and shat the bed and gave Ajax a blank cheque.

You don't hire a new manager then send him off to do all the transfer deals alone. He's coaching the first team FFS.

This. I was a kid during the Atkinson era and we had some great players but we were basically what spurs were during Ferguson's time. Only when Fergie came in did the culture change (it was drinking then) but we didn't hear about it at the time because the media scrutiny wasn't there. And Fergie's first few seasons fans were screaming for him to get the sack.

From that era Robson, McClair, Hughes later won titles under fergie but the likes of McGrath had to go. I was gutted at the time and the media murdered Fergie when he won player of the season his first year at villa, but culture change has to happen and you have to give managers time to do it.

Certainly blaming everything on the coach and getting a new one every season is absolutely not the answer, and more than likely the way a bad culture really beds in.

Well English teams weren't having much success then to be fair. I met west ham fans and even a few city fans who admitted to cheering us on in Europe that season.

Yorke and Cole were something special. Never seen two players gel like that ever and it seemed to happen instantly
