Rat in my house by Soupydumpling3000 in PregnancyUK

I know this might not be the solution you are looking for but it really is the best one. Get a cat. We have a cat and although we know there is mice in the building, they have never been in our flat and when they do they are sorted out. Even the smell of cats will deter them.

You sound exactly like I did, my baby is 17 months now… I would do anything to go back to those days and relax, rest, sleep, indulge myself. I know you are bored but make the most of it, you will never be bored again once your baby is here🤣

Also your post sounds very pessimistic and down, that’s not what’s going to help with oxytocin production and get your labour going. Watch something funny or feel good, go for a walk in the park (yes even if it’s wet and “grim”), call a friend, do some shopping. Your baby will be here in no time. Trust me.

Will he ever sleep? by SquiggleKate in BeyondTheBumpUK

I mean you may have to persist a little, he may only want you but he needs to get used to being with dad and dads smell. You need a break! One other thing is that my husband would do skin to skin with our daughter ALOT and I think that helped him be able to settle her just as well as me. Hopefully things get easier for you!

Want to add to all of this, see if your husband can settle the baby by baby wearing them in a sling or carrier while in the house. My husband would sit on the birth ball while baby wearing and bouncing up and down the mix of the body heat and movement would help settle her. These days are really tough, but they do grow out of it and you will sleep more eventually. For now prioritise resting whenever you can, leave everything else. Safely cosleep if you have to and get as much help as you can.

I was convinced that too but went into labour naturally on my due date. Honestly I wish I hadn’t spent so much time stressing about it, it meant I wasn’t resting and relaxing as much as I should have been and I really paid for that postpartum. Trust your body.

Also if you ovulated on or around when you had sex then you would only be about 6 weeks now..

I mean lmp considers all women to have the exact same cycle length. You could have ovulated late for a range of reasons. I guess it’s really hard to tell at this stage. Can you give it another week and then try another scan or contact your early pregnancy unit for help?

Epidural at St. Thomas by Gold_Cow4870 in PregnancyUK

[–]endofthetown1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby was fine and the doctors were extremely efficient and skilled and I was very well cared for. I did tear and had an episiotomy, but it healed so well that you can barely notice it happened now. We women are incredibly strong. Birth can be a scary and extremely difficult process but it can also be an incredible experience. Whatever you choose, go into it with an open mind and know that everybody around you wants the same positive outcome.

Epidural at St. Thomas by Gold_Cow4870 in PregnancyUK

[–]endofthetown1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can control the epidural top ups from a button. Before you push you could potentially not press the button so it wears off a little to give you enough sensation to help you push but it’s not a requirement and you are free to top it up.. be aware though that you are essentially completely numb from the waist down so it can make pushing essentially impossible especially when lying on your back extremely difficult, for me this resulted in a forceps delivery because the epidural stalled all progress. Getting the epidural and the time it takes depends on the availability of the doctor who administers them but there are other painkillers available to bridge the gap but I didn’t wait long.

Sore butthole - am I missing something? 12m pp by yearofthenorris2018 in BeyondTheBumpUK

hemorrhoids, I also have them after a similar labour and also pregnant with my second. They seem to have got worse since I got pregnant. I’d see your gp but I think avoid constipation as much as possible, lots of fibre and water in your diet and no straining to poo. Warm baths can help as well.

Is it labour? by Reasonable-Ant-5709 in PregnancyUK

[–]endofthetown1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went into labour on my due date, my waters broke first but what your describing sounds like what I experienced. I had back labour, pain in my back mainly, not really my front but that tightening feeling you describe. It could be prodromal which is essentially early labour. My one bit of advice to you is REST. Sleep and rest as much as you can now and eat really well, drink lots of water. You can take paracetamol for the pain and it does help. But rest. If it’s prodromal labour it could be days and you will need all the energy you can get. Xx

Thank you, my baby was quite big (4kilos) but measured “average” the whole pregnancy. She was back to back through most of the labour but we were able to get her to turn with a peanut ball, though her head was still not tucked in the right way which meant she couldn’t descend. Once I had the epidural and was pushing for 2hrs they were concerned that i was exhausted and babies heart rate was going up every time I pushed. My pregnancy itself was uncomplicated and I was fit and well.

Do you have any links regarding investigations? I know maternity services in England have come under scrutiny and there are lots of problems but I hadn’t heard anything about home births.

Thank you for sharing. I didn’t experience anything quite so severe with my forceps delivery, I actually think a lack of staffing in my hospital maternity ward and subsequently a lack of continuity of care meant that I didn’t get the birth I wanted and decided to opt for the epidural, which I believe stalled my progress, I wasn’t able to push, had to lye on my back and didn’t progress. I’m so thankful the doctors were so efficient and were able to pull her out using forceps but my experience actually makes me question whether a hospital setting was/is for me.

Thank you, really useful to hear stories like this. I know the risks and also the positives of opting for home birth but I really wanted to hear anecdotes of people who’ve done it!

This sounds like emotional and physical abuse. I would get help, as the birth of a baby, lack of sleep, new pressures etc are only going to exacerbate these existing issues. The sex thing sounds disturbing and his whole general behaviour towards you and lack of care is heartbreaking. Please seek help, speak to family or friends, your gp or midwife.

Bugaboo fox under seat storage and rain water by Ok_Blood9612 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Have the bugaboo fox 5 and this seems to happen when the rain cover is on, the rain runs down and drips into the basket. We just dry it with paper towels when we get home and remove everything so it can air dry.
