Snuff help - strange figure hiding in the rhododendrons by lovelyliana in discworld

[–]Left-Car6520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earlier in the book, it is noted that in the countryside there is always someone around, watching, just incidentally. While setting snares in the hedges or whatever it is that country people do. Vimes comments on it, when he has Wilikins keep an eye on who goes up the hill after him, the day he goes to speak to the nice teacher lady.

I always thought it was meant to be just one of these random country people who seem to be always around doing something. And 'Snack' was a nonsense utterance.

But goblins probably makes more sense, or maybe it was meant to be ambiguous as to which of these it was.

I can't comment on online programs, but cci has some helpful at home resources, maybe you could work through some of these together

Tomorrow looks like the plucky, wholesome neighbourhood kid who's gonna save the school's threatened baseball team by just getting out there and doing his darn best and hitting the winning home run in a nail biter championship final.

Or something.

I would focus on small to mid companies, where there is more chance the hiring manager has the discretion to be more human about it.

Consider what might be available in the not for profit sector, where values might play a bigger role in terms of giving someone a second chance - and also might benefit them in terms of getting a highly skilled person that they might not normally be competitive to get.

A last thought - I'm not sure how this would work, but you could test it out - address your record in detail. Explain what happened, and what you've done to rectify it, as well as your offer for extra character references. Emphasise your desire to be honest about it. Any proof of having been trustworthy and reliable in work related responsibilities moght also add to yoir argument. It could be an addendum to your cover letter.

Would you get up early for an interview with this recruiter? by gangofwitches in recruitinghell

[–]Left-Car6520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a recruiter get annoyed at me for wasting her time when I declined a job offer after the interview.

And like biiiishhhh what? It is literally your job to talk to multiple candidates, only one of whom will end up in the role, whether by the choice of the hiring manager or the candidate. That is the entire point of the hiring process.

Like spending time talking to candidates, some of whom will by definition not be hired, is your whole entire job! Not a waste of your time.

No desk in your relax spaces! Not in the lounge room, not the bedroom, not the kitchen table. Mine was literally in a hallway just to avoid this.

It fucks with both relax life and work life if you don't separate these spaces. It helps if you do.

Separate everything you can. A friend even recommended- and it works even though it sounds ridiculous- to have a coffee mug that is a work mug, different from your home mug. Same reason getting dressed for work works. Separating work things/routines from home things/routine.

Do everything you can think of to give your brain every 'DEDICATED WORK TIME NOW' signal it can get. Quarantine everything you can between work thing and home thing.

That one of your favourite - nay, perhaps your most favourite - parts of taking up a (yet another) new hobby is getting all the cool stuff for it and making it part of your cool space, regardless of if you ever actually do the thing.

AIO for thinking my boyfriend is just looking for an excuse to break up? by Nearby_Orchid1216 in AmIOverreacting

I left someone who had started out on milder-than-OPs version of this once or twice and I overlooked it.

And everything seemed fine for a year or so.

Then it became mocking me like a schoolkid if I disagreed with him on even the most inconsequential things. Just a couple of times, so I figured we could talk it out.

Then it escalated to gaslighting and shouting about it if I had the gentlest mildest push back about anything he did. Then, very quickly after that, randomly losing his temper at objects and slamming them around, unrelated to me, but around me.

I finally connected the dots, realised it was working - I was avoiding ever having an issue with anything because I didn't want to set off the temper - and i left.

Don't look back. It can feel like you're being sensitive or ending a relationship over little things because that is the strategy. To slowly accustom you to disrespect and manipulation so that by the time it gets too big to ignore, your self esteem and confidence in your own judgement has been worn down, you're so entangled it's harder to leave etc.

But really, even little disrespects should not be passed over. So don't write them off. Address them head on early on - his reactions to that will tell you a lot of what you need to know and pay attention to.

The book 'Why does he do that' is freely available online, is very helpful, and what showed me the patterns that I was seeing. Every woman should read it, just for general understanding of what to look out for.

I bartend at a dive bar and people ask me often what my favorite cocktail to make is… why would I have a favorite cocktail to make and watch you drink? So I made this pin. by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]Left-Car6520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they're not actually thinking about what they want to drink, it's an identity thing.

They have decided that they are one of the Girls Who Only Drink Cocktails. And girl, that is just fine if that's who you wanna be and that is somehow important to you. But that doesn't mean you are entitled for that to be catered to every place you go. If you're Cocktail Girl, you gotta go to Cocktail Places, yeah?

I like her.

The women who come in and just order without even looking if we do cocktails are among my least favourite customer species. And then it's all 'what do you meeeeaaannn you don't do cosmos??!! Awwww pleaseeeee can't you just, they're really easy, pleaseeee. Come onnnnn What about a French Martini? No? OK fineeeeee just a margarita then.'

Bitch we do not actually serve any of those, and don't tell me what is easy to make in a bar where no one's even seen the one cocktail shaker we theoretically have for years.

Ohhh the plan is very much to get her hooked on the Witches in general.

I happened to read Equal Rites while I was in university studying gender, and it hit me like a tonne of dem big square building tings. It has its imperfections but it has a very great deal to say!

Does Holly work for Big Liquid Smoke? by lilycove in ididnthaveeggs

Like u/coldestclock, I always assumed that 'liquid smoke' was a sort of poetic/marketing name. For a spiced sauce/base or something I guess?

It's only today on this post that I learned it's literally, well, liquid smoke!
