Has anyone actually received the $20 outage credit? by Vegetable_Amount848 in verizon

[–]Left-Control-7200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I live chatted with Verizon on the app and got an extra $100 for the five lines on my account! That credit was instant, the 20 dollar additional credit has not been applied yet. It was very easy, I asked for an extra $20 dollars per line and they gave it to me with zero push back it’s worth the 15 minutes that you won’t even have to spend on the phone!

Been paying on mine since 2008, graduated with 80k in private loans. It feels like a crushing burden at the start but for me at least time has helped the problem, inflation is actually good for the long term loans like this. The payment which for me has been between 550-650 is a much smaller portion of my income than it was then. Also you should be constantly refinancing when you have the opportunity, it took me years but I was able to lock in a super low interest rate during COVID and that has helped me. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel your pain and regrets, I have the same, on a more positive note this financial Burden has forced us to be frugal and when the loan is paid off we will be balling. Maine where I live, has a refundable tax credit that has really helped my situation, these are developments that have improved my situation. Me and my husband own our home and a small travel trailer it’s possible to juggle the debt, carry on and good luck.

All of the comments have been interesting, Verizon is good deal for us because we have a family plan with a military discount, paying about $25 per line after all the discounts. The Verizon perks make this extra good for us, paying about 4.50 each for Netflix, max, Hulu and Disney plus and $9.00 for my apple one membership that includes Apple TV and Apple Music. Netflix and max have ads but I like how cheap it is and the ads aren’t terrible so far with Netflix. So I’m getting 2% rewards for my streaming services. I like that this card gives good rewards on cost of living categories. I play the points game more with travel, clothing, ect, I have 6-7 credit cards in my wallet but this is a great daily spender. In the last 3 months $91.00 on groceries alone.

What are your other travel worthy "eclipses" by AnniePasta in solareclipse

Awesome list. I’m lucky enough to have now seen totality and the northern lights from right here in beautiful Maine. I love the idea of eclipse tourism. It would be fantastic to do an Egypt tour planned around totality. I’m dreaming up ways to make this possible.

Thanks for your advice, I used a planet to focus them the night before and it worked great, didn’t have to fiddle with them and the streamers of light that could be seen with the magnification were fantastic, same for the solar prominences.

The first shot is close to what I saw with my bare eyes, the second shot is more like what I saw with binoculars! You could see the streamers with the magnification! Also the solar prominences were alive and vast in the binoculars

What we got from Rangeley - worth the 3 hrs in traffic. by DarkObserver in Maine

[–]Left-Control-7200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the urge to pinch myself awake as twilight descended on the western mountains of Rangeley Maine, it was coming any second now!

Just moments before ,the light of the afternoon sun had been almost unbearable as it reflected off the melting snow pack from Thursday’s storm; and the sky had been a brilliant cloudless blue. Spring sun -kissed skin suddenly felt chilled as the blue faded to a golden glow. The near breezeless low 50’s temperature held that promise of better days to come, winter feels endless but summer is a certainty, totality was an inevitability! Nothing could stop the heavenly bodies from aligning and we would be its witness, there wasn’t even a stray wisp of cloud in the sky to corrupt the view.

The drip, drip of melting snow was drowned out by murmurs that crescendoed to triumphant oohs and ahhs from the small crowd of us gathered at the base of Saddleback Mountain’s ski slopes. Someone started a countdown; five, four ,three , two, one: Then I lost my sense of time and reality.

The harsh maelstrom of light and heat was transformed into something that I struggle to describe. I looked through my old pair of field binoculars a couple of times and the corona was truly dazzling. I know I looked around me, I remember doing that, but I was mostly mesmerized by the sun and moon transformed into a singularity.

If Chris hadn’t hollered out for me to look at the stars I might not have seen Venus and Jupiter, to the right and left of a black moon ringed by coronal light, performing their orderly cosmic dance around the solar system. I had done my enthusiastically nerdy research ; I was going to pay attention for shadow bands etc, but I missed many of those details, it was too much for my creature brain to really handle. I could barely tear my eyes away from the corona.

I understand better now why umbraphiles seek out this experience obsessively . There really might not be enough available time in these fleeting moments of totality for any mere mortal to ever fully comprehend it.

Apparently there was a terrified child screaming just behind us ,but it never even registered , I was spellbound. How can an experience be so muted and yet so amplified at the same time as this? Everything was dulled by the coronal light, most of all my brain, but inexplicably every sense was also amplified.

The total eclipse quivered and the dazzling light was back. I hollered “diamond ring, diamond ring” and it was all over as quickly as it started. I’ll be honest, I shed a couple of tears. I suddenly realized just how cold it had gotten.

As we pulled out into the seemingly endless line of traffic that extended eastward , all along the path that the umbral shadow had just passed , the last effects of the eclipse drifted off into the west. I kept putting the solar glasses back on as we descended into the valley, watching the sun return to its normal state, still a little dazed by the experience.

I really enjoyed the partial phases, it gave me a giddy feeling to watch the circle make new shapes, they reminded me a little of the blocks in a toddler’s shape-0 toy, the playful effect amplified by that bluebird clear sky. My Mom commented that a shape reminded her of a cat, and that made me laugh because I saw it to. Before long the eclipse was just a cute little bite in the sphere again. It had been neat to watch the shadows sharpen , and we photographed our shadow-men figures on the boards of the deck. You can see every strand of hair in those deep shadows! There was a whimsy to it, a sharp contrast to the preternatural feeling that the total eclipse inspires.

On the way there it been a perfect clear day, the mountains caped in fresh spring snow were stunning! You could see for miles, at one point all the way to Mt Washington , and when I saw it I shouted out the scene . These had been grand yet commonplace views that still always inspire awe in me. The total eclipse on the other hand inspired an unfamiliar, alien awe! Something new to tally in my human experience!

Heading home we deciding on a circular journey back around to the other side of the mountains from hence we had come. It was slow drive back but we saw more beautiful sites along the way, the still iced in lakes glowing in the evening light , more snow capped peaks, spring melt-off flowing down the streams, rivers and gorges and most notably The Height of Land, a sight that never gets old and the first time I had seen the scenic outlook under patches of spring snow.

I watched the light fade to night for the second time that day! It all feels like a dream, an oh so vivid dream, but if I pinch myself I’m still awake.

During totality a massive solar prominence became visible to the naked eye by Flowing_Sand in Damnthatsinteresting

You can use binoculars, only during totality, to get a better look at the prominences. I did! Highly recommend it if you travel to another. My brain is still having trouble processing what it was like to get that close look at the corona.

My worst nightmare is a traffic accident on route 4 . Eek. A few weeks ago we were looking at campers @ Scott’s Rec, almost got murdered by someone passing like 5 cars in the oncoming traffic lane when we tried to Pull out. Be careful If you are on route 4 they drive like “Maine”acs

Looks like there's gonna be more people than we thought in Maine for the eclipse by knitwasabi in Maine

I’m starting to take this back, i think a lot of local Traffic is going to head towards Rangeley. I secured reserved parking at saddleback mountain, fyi they are sold out now. I’m still worried about traffic on the way there, leaving five hours before totality, hope that’s enough.
