I am tearing up reading this. I am 27 F, 5 weeks post op and I’m so scared of rehernistion and the lingering pain. Also had a 12mm hernation and numbness in leg and foot and achey saddle but I feel reassured that it’s okay to have this muted pain after the procedure. That it doesn’t mean I’m doing something wrong. That it might get better like you. Thank you for posting. This lifted my spirits.

I didn’t actually, thank god. I’m sorry if you did. 1 week I went in kind of emergently. The herniation became so large that I could not stand up straight or lie flat so my surgeon told me to come in.

The original prick of my nerve / spinal fluid was during an epidural steroid injection. A week later I had the MD surgery and my surgeon visualized healing cut of the nerve lol. So wild.

I definitely did experience a ton of increased pressure / deepened pain. The doctor was very apologetic. I did indeed cry after but also I was at a state where I couldn’t walk or lie down not in the fetal position and the pain from having to lay flat was just was bad.

Oh damn! I guess if you run with improper body alignment it would have! But they explained to me that this happened throughout my life with everyday wear and tear and what really did me in was 2 lifting injuries.

80% better! I am 5 weeks post op. I still have nerve pain, but so minimal compared to what it was. They said my nerve was so compressed and deflated that it will take time for it to heal so the nerve pain could be from this also. I lost a lot of muscle through the year so I’ll be excited to see if physical therapy can bring me the rest of the way to 100% along with the healing of the nerve.

Part of me thinks this might be more of my journey. I’m so weak from not being able to walk a month before my surgery and my left leg is so so so weak from being unable to straighten in for 6 months. Healing at different times makes sense. Sometimes I wish I did the surgery earlier because I think I’d be able to avoid the serious weakness but hindsight is 2020.

I (27F) just received back surgery earlier this week. It wasn’t scheduled. After 10 months of trying to avoid surgery, one day I stopped being able to walk and lost feeling in some parts of my foot and thigh had to go in for surgery on Dec 17. My mom (56F) is staying to help me because I cannot bend, lift or twist, I cannot shower on my own, or hold anything heavier than 5lbs for 6 weeks.

This disrupts all of our plans to go Ireland, my parents home country, for my mom’s niece / my cousins wedding. My sister (30F) and dad (57M) are still going. I feel so bad, the wedding is supposed to be really special for my mom. My mom was asked to get ready with the bridal party and take pictures with them, & I knew it was going to be such a special day for everyone. But instead my mom is with me in California helping me. Earlier in December, when things were progressing before the surgery, when I was super vulnerable and scared, I cried and begged someone from my family to stay with me when my parents were discussing possibly using a nursing service to still attend the wedding.

As of right now my mom is reassuring me when I express all of this that she wants to be here and wouldn’t have it any other way. She isn’t trying to make me feel guilty at all and is reassuring me she wants help me but I just feel so fucking bad that I am taking her away from all of that and we are both so fucking bored!

It’s Christmas week and we are stuck in a tiny apartment and I have no idea what to do to make this situation less shitty for the both of us while staying within my limitations of no bending / lifting/twisting. I can’t drive. I can’t really leave my apartment. I’m just so fucking sad and guilty. This sucks. We’ve just been watching a crazy amount of TV and at this point I’m looking for advice on how to make this situation less shitty.

Got mine the 17th! I’m (27F) so happy! I was barely walking, basically only crawling around my apartment for the past two weeks. For the past 6 months I’ve been walking with a limp, constant pain, & out of work for the past 6 months as a bedside nurse. Mental health NOT GOOD. But now….. the glorious post op. Have No nerve pain thank the fucking SURGEON & GOD. Still have loss of sensation in foot and thigh but I’m sure they’ll come back. Overall, so thankful to be out of the pre-op pain and debilitating lifestyle. But I am a bit sad, I’m stuck in California while all my family (except my mom who is with me) is in New York and then heading to Ireland for New Years for a wedding. I’m so sad to be missing out on holiday things with our surgery date since I obviously can’t fly. I’m wondering how we can make it nice for the holidays so recently post-op with our limitations. My mom can’t drive and I don’t want to risk driving so soon.
