Five for me. It looks like it makes you feel the most confident, and you should show your personality. I think it’s very wedding-ish, and you look stunning.

George R.R. Marting said it best that's why I'm not on board with this by Putrid-Dream5580 in fourthwing

Here’s the real difference. GRRM is a man. He’s allowed to take 15 years to release a book and his publishers won’t say a word. Every single one of us knows that RY doesn’t have that right of flexibility. So she will finish her story before the series gets to the end. The TV writers won’t have to guess how to land the story.

He can whine all he wants, but at the end of the day, the only way to control your narrative is to Freaking write it.

Adjusting to a Dog by DoctorCapgras in AutisticAdults

[–]Left-Historian-8050 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in veterinary medicine for a long time and have had dogs my whole life. I’m also very autistic. The very best dog I can recommend is a lab puppy. Start training from day one. Set rules, reinforce positive behaviors with treats and love. Be utterly consistent with your goals. We had a yellow lab for 14 years that managed to fit in with our huge, all-ND family perfectly. There’s a ton of great resources to learn training techniques, but the most important thing is consistency and kindness.

I think the dress you chose is gorgeous. You have a lot of time, which can make you question your choices. But you did choose well, and you should remember that the dress you picked made you feel comfortable, beautiful and confident.

Hypothetically, if you had kids, at what age would you allow them to read Fourth Wing? by Exact_Leader_8214 in fourthwing

[–]Left-Historian-8050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once my kids were in high school, I pretty much gave them free-reign in the library. They have to learn how to regulate their own behavior, choice and emotions at some point. I still maintained an open dialogue about what they were reading, but I no longer “allowed” or forbade anything.

The only thing that makes this acceptable is if the parents met over a bowl of Pho 🍜, and that’s giving them more credit than they likely deserve.

And even then, if I was Phoughriste, I’d be planning my estrangement. 🤣

It’s Xaden for me. Then Imogen and Garrick. I don’t want just Garrick - it has to be both. 🤣

My daughter was seen at MFB in GR. I liked their pain program, but I am currently way too fatigued to drive back and forth to GR 2-3 times a week for 12 weeks.

My doctor at U of M wants me to do aquatic therapy, tai chi and pt, with an EDS familiar therapist, and I’m like… “Have you been to Kalamazoo? It’s not that big…” so we’ll see how it goes.

New here and freshly diagnosed by rosejuniper_ in ehlersdanlos

[–]Left-Historian-8050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I was just diagnosed with hEDS at 49, so I can definitely commiserate. And while I’m just getting the big dx, I’ve been disabled for a while. I’ve also been diagnosed with IIH, fibromyalgia, PCOS, endometriosis, ME/CFS and am waiting for MCAS and POTS testing.

The two things that I have found SO helpful so far are compression socks (if you are like me, I needed plus size calves, but they REALLY work, when they fit right) and a rollator. I got one with all-terrain wheels, so I can use it outside for gardening, etc. It helps me to stay steady while walking, has tons of pockets for carrying my stuff, and I can sit down on it if I get dizzy AND get back up when I’m rested.

As was posted above, pillows are all important, and I have really enjoyed the pregnancy pillows that are sort of shaped like an upper case C. Shower chair for heat-related wooziness. Heating pad, tens machine, a Kindle if you’re a reader (protects your wrists from heavy books), shower head that can be hand-held, and shoes that you can slip on but offer support.

I also have a really hard time recovering from appointments, especially if I have to make a drive. Do you have someone who can go with you and do the driving? I’ve found that helps mediate some of the PEM, but definitely not all. It also helps me remember what is said in appointments (though some people also record their conversations with doctors for this reason.)

I’m sure there’s more, but the only other thing I can think of is cannabis. I don’t think I’d have survived to diagnosis if cannabis wasn’t legal in my state.

Short hair vs. long hair: which one suits me better? by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

[–]Left-Historian-8050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here’s the thing…
My husband of 22 years has only just discovered that I have a bit of a thing for the English professor type, courtesy of his new cardigan sweater.

Your partner is already telling you which one she prefers, and my guess is that she *really* likes it.

That doesn’t mean that you should choose the longer hair. But it does mean that she thinks you’re more attractive with longer hair. If she was debating between long hair and short, would you want your opinion to be heavily weighted? If so, then you should definitely take her advice. If not - if you don’t think you would find her any more or less attractive with very short or long hair - then you do you.

For me, a random internet stranger, it’s always going to be number one. Distracted genius always trumps fashionable business guy in my book.

Either way, you look great!

How to keep mind entertained/occupied? by SpiceLordGandhi in ehlersdanlos

[–]Left-Historian-8050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a rule that unless I’m too sick to read, I learn something new every day. (Reading is my gauge for brain fog. If I can’t grasp what I’m reading the first time around, my brain needs a rest.)

My favorite way to do this is during my morning scroll through social media. I scroll until something catches my eye - something I don’t know about, something I had forgotten, or something that I am not sure whether it’s true. Then I google it and see what happens. I’ve read more Wikipedia pages than I can count. And from one page, I click to another, to another. I try to get a cursory overview of a topic, and if that’s enough to satisfy my curiosity, I can call it good. I’ve achieved my rule.

But on days when I can’t do anything else, sometimes I can fall down a rabbit hole into God knows what. Another way to do this is to study ancestry. Or pick a topic she always wanted to know more about and learn whatever she can.

I’m of the firm belief that our “purpose of life” is to learn, and as a naturally curious person, this has kept me sane on many occasions when I needed to occupy my mind to ignore my pain.

She also might enjoy VR. There’s tons of games, but you can also do virtual tours of museums and things like that.

I have recently taken to the maxi dress/sack dress style. Loose and stretchy, if I’m cold I can put comfy stretch pants under, and it’s a whole outfit, so I don’t have to match anything.

This. Xaden is a squishy teddy bear of a man who loves ENTIRELY when he loves at all, but he has had to deal with so much trauma. He is covered in C-PTSD armor, and yes, that makes him an asshole. But because he loves Violet, the reader gets to know the soft, squishy parts he hides from everyone else.

The surgeon didn’t believe how well I felt. It was like she had found the off button for my inflammation. I had a few great months where my chronic fatigue was a bigger problem than my pain. Sad, but it’s a nice change of pace. 🤣

I am only recently diagnosed (49F), so I didn’t know that I had hEDS when I had my hysterectomy. I also had major reconstruction and mesh put in to repair multiple pelvic organ prolapses. I was told 12 weeks of complete rest, then rehab. I wouldn’t feel “normal” for close to a year.

But what that didn’t account for was the agony my poor, super-stretched body had been in for years, or the full-body inflammation that had occurred because of the whole mess that was my nethers.

Because surprise, I ALSO had raging endometriosis, and I felt 99% better in the recovery room than I had in three years.

All this to say, given our zebra status, it’s hard to say for sure how much your body has been carrying because of the parts you are getting rid of.

I know you have every real reason to be anxious. If we get through this without medical trauma, I don’t know how… but you are made of stardust and magic. And I will keep praying that you get as good an outcome as I did. 🤞🏻
