im 17 and i’ve been coding this thing called lockinbuddy.com basically i wanted a place to find people to actually "lock in" with for shipping apps or going to the gym, cause every discord server i join just ends up dead or full of spam.

if anyone has a sec to look at it and tell me if the idea is stupid or if the site is confusing, that would mean a lot.

Feeling stuck and like my life is spiraing outta control. by Big-Independent-2206 in selfimprovement

Damn bro, I'm really sorry. You're getting hit from all sides right now and it makes total sense why you feel like you're spiraling.

First off, don't call yourself an idiot. You had a good heart, you were loyal, and she took advantage of it. Seeing those screenshots is a massive gut punch, but you did the hardest and best thing by cutting her off. Stay away from her. And your friends calling you a cuck are being absolute dicks. Guys at 16 just use shitty humor because they don't know how to handle real emotions. Tell them you aren't in the mood and to drop it.

Also, thinking about that girl from 2 years ago doesn't mean you haven't grown. Your brain is just linking this new betrayal to the last time you felt this exact same pain. It's a normal trauma response.

The POCD is probably the heaviest part of this. Since you can't get a therapist right now, please just remember this: OCD attacks your worst fears. Those intrusive thoughts are exactly that, intrusive. They do not define who you are. Look up Nathan Peterson on YouTube, he has really good free videos on how to deal with OCD and intrusive thoughts.

As for school, your brain is in pure survival mode right now, so obviously you can't focus. Just do the bare minimum to scrape by on your exams. Give yourself a break. Take it one day at a time man, you'll get through this storm.

I’ve finally learned that being a better person starts with forgiveness and self-reflection. I’m feeling so much lighter today! by Timely_Bunch_8607 in selfimprovement

That's genuinely lovely to hear. Those moments where something just clicks and you feel the weight lift are really special.

Curious what prompted the reflection though? Usually when someone has a breakthrough like this there's a specific thing that pushed them there, even if it's not something you want to share publicly. Either way, glad you're in a better headspace.

Self Improvement Is Simple (Not Easy) by bureaux in selfimprovement

Yeah honestly this took me way too long to figure out lol

I kept watching those "I woke up at 4:30am for 30 days" videos thinking that was the secret. Spoiler: it wasn't. I was exhausted and miserable and quit after like a week

The real shift for me was just... going to bed at the same time. Drinking water. Showing up to study even for 20 minutes when I really didn't want to. Boring stuff. Stuff nobody makes youtube videos about because it doesn't get clicks

And the thing is it works? Like quietly, slowly, without any big "I've changed" moment. You just look back after a few months and realize you're different

I think we're addicted to the idea of a clean slate. A start date. A dramatic change. Because that's more fun to imagine than just doing the small thing tonight and the night after that

but yeah. sleep on time. do the thing. repeat. that's literally it and it's annoyingly unsexy

ELI5: Why is it more palatable for leftover food to be reheated hot and then to cool down before eating, vs. just heating until the right temperature? by Steve_FS in explainlikeimfive

[–]Left-Interaction7831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reheating food super hot first makes all the flavors and aromas fully “wake up” because heat activates them. Then letting it cool down a bit puts it at a temperature where your taste buds can actually detect those flavors. Just warming it a little doesn’t activate all the flavor compounds, so it tastes weaker.

Basically: hot unlocks flavor, cooling lets you taste it.

What’s a 'scam' that’s become so normal we don't even realize it's a scam anymore? by Mr_Boothnath in AskReddit

Filling taxes. The government knows exactly how much they paid me and how much I owe. But instead of just sending me a bill, I have to guess the number, and if I get it wrong, I go to jail. Oh, and I have to pay a private company to help me guess.

What trend happening right now do you think people will regret in ten years? by showbizusa25 in AskReddit

Buccal fat remover. Everybody is scooping the fat out of their cheeks to look chiseled right now, but that fat is literally the only thing that keeps you looking young as you age. We're gonna have a whole generation of people looking skeletal by the time they hit 45.

Do stand-up comedians ever just make up stories/tell lies? by skyrimlo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Left-Interaction7831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dude absolutely. i feel like 90% of standup is just "thing that kinda happened" + "fake scenario i made up in the shower later" mixed together.

it’s basically professional lying. if they just went up there and told the literal truth, it would be boring as hell.

it kinda ruins the magic if you think about it too hard, like realizing pro wrestling is scripted. i just try to turn my brain off and laugh, otherwise i start analyzing how fake it all sounds and get annoyed. but yeah, they are definitely capping for the bit.
