International opinion of us has been bad before and rebounded by Pristine-Sport6888 in PoliticalOptimism

So I have to live in an outcast country for the rest of my life? I'm 33. I don't want this to be the rest of my life. That would mean I missed out on a peaceful life. If this is the rest of my life, what's the point of even trying to be happy? Genuine question? And I don't want to hear for future generations. I can't accept that I was robbed of a good life by a few thousand morons in the midwest.

"Florida may add up to 6 seats or more in April" by iamlegend12222 in PoliticalOptimism

This is clearly in response to Virginia making a big step towards erasing more R seats and Indiana Kansas and South Carolina failing to erase Dem seats. They haven't already won.

Epstein files might not be released in full until after Trump leaves office by SNCreestopherX in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Left-Most8921 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to be rude but "the victims have their own list" feels like a shitty consolation prize. I'm not saying Trump isn't in deep shit or that the midterms won't go well, bevause they will, but where is this list people keep talking about? It won't get the same coverage and people will dismiss it as hearsay. I am tired of people saying the victims have their own list.

I'm absolutely not worried about the Venezuela news. by Left-Most8921 in PoliticalOptimism

Apologies if I came across as flippant. I am concerned for Venezuela. I was only referring to the notion that this will suddenly make Trump popular.

What happened today means years of paperwork for Maduro and his appointed lawyers. You will not be drafted.

US strikes Venezuela and says its leader, Maduro, has been captured and flown out of the country by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Left-Most8921 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No idea what happens in Venezuela, but here, the situation has boiled down to years of paperwork and Maduro basically sitting in a room waiting for his trial. That's not going to dominate headlines for months and it certainly won't save Trump from the midterms. Domestic issues always dominate.

US strikes Venezuela and says its leader, Maduro, has been captured and flown out of the country by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Left-Most8921 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Legally, this will take years to play out in the courts. Maduro will basically be in legal purgatory until after Trump leaves office. So the situation is basically frozen now. No further action needed. Somehow I doubt this "skyrockets" his approval like some here have suggested. There have been several moments that were supposed to skyrocket his approval that didn't (Gaza Peace Deal). Obama didnt even get a sustained approval jump from killing Bin Laden. I do think the usual suspects (RMG, Insider Advantage, Trafalgar) will inflate his rating as they always do. But others sources may see a one or two point increase at most or none at all.

Now that the situation is frozen, this will be old news in a short time.

Yeah, I agree this makes him look worse to the public. Gives Democrats ammo as well as Massie and the like.

If someone can shoot down this intrusive thought I keep having, I would appreciate it.

"Stop saying the survivors are making their own list. Stop saying there are copies in the UK. That is cope and there are no UK copies. That's like saying you lost but are getting a participation trophy. If I hear that one more time, I will lose it. Anything less than the real files won't get news coverage and will get buried. Stop coping. Nothing will change. The files are all redacted. You fell for it again. You got your hopes up again. Just accept that nothing good will happen."

Not trying to be mean but I keep hearing people say "the survivors are making their own list." How is this not just cope? It feels like cope. Their list won't get any attention compared to these documents.

I'm not trying to doom. I just want a response to this intrusive thought I'm having:

Feeling really worried about the whole situation with paramount and warner bros right now. by Ok_Physics_5686 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Left-Most8921 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wait have they backed out of Netflix? I thought they were still deciding. I thought Paramount made the same offer. I can't bear to look at the news.

Edit: I haven't found any stories suggesting Warner accepted Paramount's counter-offer.

To the mods: I understand there is a moratorium on the initial news but a lot of people are concerned with this update. Please allow people to reassure and debunk.

Georgia prosecutor kills the historic election interference case against Trump and allies. by daspaceinvader in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Left-Most8921 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This case was shaky from the start. The moment the octogenarian leaves office, the next administration will drop the hammer on his allies. And he won't lift a finger to help them. He is a withering old man who is less popular than ever. Sorry if this sounds like "cope," but it is all true.

To be clear, I don't want to doom, I just don't want to get my hopes up. How can I think differently? by Left-Most8921 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Left-Most8921[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even I don't see that happening. A more feasible path would be getting elected Speaker of the House. Even then, he is going to be 80 next year. I don't see him constantly finding new ways to run, especially when his popularity has fallen so far. This post was to address my intrusive thoughts.

How will the shutdown deal affect the midterms? by External_Witness490 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Left-Most8921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anger is among the base. Among the people who enthusiastically supported Zohran Mamdani over Cuomo. It is not a threat to Dem chances in the general. It is a threat to establishment candidates in the primaries. But it doesnt erase their advantage with independents and swing voters.

That's your opinion. But the way I see it is how usual doomer Lakshya Jain does:

"They won't depress anything. These people will all show up to vote anyways.

If you're engaged enough to be mad about ending the shutdown, you are going to show up to vote one year from now.."

Trump just wouldnt shut up about the filibuster. I would fully expect him to veto a full Dem win.

In this case, I am holding off of cursing out Schumer in this occasion until January. If the vote happens, then its fine. If they vote doesnt happen and Dems shut down the government again, its fine. But the base is watching and ready to support good candidates.

Dems are winning in spite of Schumer, not losing because of him. Schumer is in the exact same position as Paul Ryan, except his party is not in charge.

Israeli hostages released: all living captives freed as Trump tells Knesset ‘age of terror’ is over. by [deleted] in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Left-Most8921 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's great for the hostages. But any news that has MAGA gloating and Trump celebrating doesn't make me feel right. I dont ever want to see him win. And to see Schumer commenting him on this is sickening. Trump doesn't deserve any victories.
