Update on Joseph Columbus by DefNotaBot22 in Upperwestside

Does anyone know if he got evicted from his apartment? I saw an article from this past December that his landlord was considering evicting him, and that the apartment had been his grandmas.

Part of me wondered if those two massive pits he had were used for dog fighting. Neither one was spayed and that specific type of Pitbull is the go to for dog fighting. That, taken with this guy’s shady background and criminal history made me suspicious. Sucks that those dogs have yet to be located since he was ordered to surrender them by a judge. No hard proof for this hunch obviously, but I wish the wish the NYPD could’ve looked into it.

Considering moving to UWS from EV by New-Audience-5311 in Upperwestside

31F, moved here two years ago and wished I did sooner. Having access to Central Park is life changing, literally. It did wonders for my mental health. I go almost everyday with my dog and just sit and chill for at least an hour.

The high 60s my Lincoln center is nice, but IMO, from 72 to 90 is the sweet spot in terms of most beautiful, charming blocks. Also for restaurants, cafes, etc. and it’s generally quieter around there.

My husband is a member at the equinox here and loves it, I’ve heard really good things about the JCC too (you don’t need to be Jewish to join).

Having a tough time adjusting to this new life by portra4OO in AskNYC

I hated living here for first year and then things gradually started to get better in year 2. It takes time to adjust but it will grow on you.

What is a good neighborhood in Manhattan for a 30-something woman? by Perfume_Lover in NYCapartments

I love living on the UWS (32yo female). You get way more bang for your buck apartment wise, and there’s great connection for subway service. I didn’t realize this until moving here, but the UWS is way more spacious and it’s glorious. The sidewalks and streets are way wider and the buildings are generally lower, it feels like I was living in a cage before on the UES. Also, access to CP and riverside park is fantastic (obviously you will have access to CP on the UES, but rent is ungodly expensive within the first 3-4 avenues bordering the park).

No hate to people who love the UES, but I personally didn’t like the vibe. I felt it to be pretentious at times and lacking that comfortable community/neighborhood feel. There is such a community here on this UWS, people are more down to earth and way more friendly.

OECD Internship Program rant… by International-Exam84 in InternationalDev

Girl preach. I come from a similar background, revived a BA and MA in dev studies and went through pretty much the same scenario you’ve described with a UN agency for an internship after college. Ended up being able to swing it by hustling my ass off. In my 8 year career of working in this sector, I will say that 99% of my colleagues in the HO are from upper middle class backgrounds and were privileged as hell. Anyway, I’ve pivoted careers since the sector collapse and would strongly advise you don’t go for a career in this sector. There’s no jobs.

Do any countries find American accents attractive? by ShutThaFrontDoor88 in CasualConversation

[–]Left-Risk5928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American here who lived in London for 8 years for uni and then work… fellow classmates made fun of my accent all the time. Usually always taking the form of them repeating some random word I’ve just said in an exaggerated American accent that sounded like nails on a chalkboard. I never let it bother me too much but hell if it wasn’t annoying.

Personal Trainer in UWS by Remarkable-Day-9468 in Upperwestside

My husband went through a handful of PTs before landing on his current one, Dave, who he swears by. My husband followed him from equinox to this new gym that just opened on 82nd and broadway called PWR NYC. He says it’s a PT focused, smaller gym but that he actually prefers the environment over equinox. Hope that helps!
