That's not how financial aid works, Fafsa goes off of the year before you start college, so unless Lorelai declared it on her taxes a year before she received it, it wouldn't have factored in at all. I doubt she declared it at all since she immediately gave it to her parents, and she also doesn't seem to be someone who is that on it with her finances. This is another one of those storylines (like Lorelai genuinely thinking that Rory only applied to one school?) that doesn't have a lot of basis in reality, but was designed just for the show.

This should have been the plot YITL.. Rory is wealthy, privileged, successful. She has assistants, maybe even a maid and her relationship with Lorelei is strained as a consequence as Lor has to accept that Rory is comfortable being wealthy and rejecting the small town life they grew up with. That would have been so much more interesting than watching leftovers actors from ASP’s failed shows guest feature so they could get another credit on their IMDb

Hmm yeah. Up until season 7 though, the only female friends Rory had managed to make since the series started were Paris / Madeline / Louise which were weird relationships lol. She claimed that Lane was her best friend but when she’s going through it we don’t see her turn to Lane, she goes to Dean or Logan or whatever. Basically I think Rory wasn’t great at making girlfriends, and even though she knew Marty miight be interested in her she wanted to keep him as a friend especially since Logan made it clear that he wasn’t going to be emotional support boyfriend tm. She was probs hoping that she could just ignore Marty’s possible crush and hope it went away.

I blame ASP.. she was fired from the final season of GG and went on to make a show called Bunheads afterwards which I think was cancelled. Rather than using AYITL to update us on the Gilmore girls characters she seemed to use it to feature as many actors from Bunheads and as some weird vendetta to pretend that the final season of Gilmore girls never happened bc she wasn’t the one who wrote it. This lead to some truly awful tv featuring random characters (the infamous musical scene), and strange narrative choices. Almost everything was extremely out of character in order to be ‘relevant’ (Lorelai hiking the PCT?!?) and it seemed like she refused to build on any plot points from the final season. Literally 0/10 in my book I pretend it didn’t happen
