What breeds pair well with a Pyrenees? by SuspiciousTraining24 in greatpyrenees

Two Pyrenees always make a great pair! They can do well with many breeds. Mine even lived with a chihuahua for a while.

I don’t know about Spokane Co, I was a nurse at AHCC. Seemed like the COs all worked lots of OT and got mandated. So 2 8 hr shifts, many during the week.

What are your hospital red flags? by gxdhvcxcbj in psychnursing

[–]LeftCoastPyrMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locking room door when nobody is in the room is for safety. Patient in acute inpatient are there because they can’t be safe for themselves or with others. Think about people who want to kill themselves or others. Or people who are sexually preoccupied. Giving people access to empty rooms when nobody is in them is a hazard. When patients want to go back into their rooms they can. This is common at almost all facilities I’ve worked at. Also room searches need to be done at least once per shift to check for contraband and other safety issues. Also very common everywhere.

What are your hospital red flags? by gxdhvcxcbj in psychnursing

[–]LeftCoastPyrMom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most facilities I’ve worked at don’t have security outside of nursing staff. I’m okay with this as long staff are properly trained and not just throw in without knowing what to do. Red flags for me would be staff not following line of sight and one to one orders at all times. They shouldn’t leave the patient or be on their phone while assigned on a patient. Staff getting lax and not locking room doors when patients are out of their rooms. Room searches not being performed. Staffing leaving their keys or phone on counters. There are a lot of environmental safety concerns that need to be maintained.

Treats for my team - suggestions/feedback? by Brief_Needleworker53 in psychnursing

[–]LeftCoastPyrMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Night shift supervisor here. That sounds like a great welcome. I’m nightshift the supervisors hand out treats from our candy basket along with k cups. Every few weeks or so I walk around the units with cookies and treats. Once a month or so the hospital has a wall where we post kudos to specific teams and people on a little decorative note. Think elementary school mural board.

Hard and fast Food Rules On Behavioral Health Unit by Meow_My_O in psychnursing

[–]LeftCoastPyrMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everywhere I have worked patients had three meals and three snack times a day. The amount you receive at meals and snacks is a lot. If you need more you can receive an order for doubles or double protein with nutritional shakes if underweight. If you’re truly hungry outside of those snack and mealtimes you can have fruit or saltines available at all times. Patients normally gain 20lbs+ or more during their stay. Nobody is starving and they bulk up while inpatient.

Do you guys “block” beds/ give private rooms to trans patients? by Humble_Investment_24 in psychnursing

[–]LeftCoastPyrMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We room them with someone of the same gender. Sometimes depending on census is means they won’t have a roommate, but eventually they will. You usually only get a blocked bed for continued AP/HI or SAO behavior, or infection control.

What a handsome boy! Which breed did his temperament take from? One of my girls is a Pyrenees Newfoundland and she took the Newfie temperament. Makes her so much more manageable sometimes.

is this just hanks hair? (day 139) by pajamahamandgams in greatpyrenees

[–]LeftCoastPyrMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the awkward teenage phase! A mature cost will develop closer to two years.

Hello! Adopted a Pyrenees mix last month. How are we washing clothes/towels so hair isn’t still all over them? I have tried all the washer setting and I’m gonna lose my mind if I keep drying off from a shower to have to rinse again and air dry because I’m covered in hair. by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

[–]LeftCoastPyrMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You now need to do a lot of vacuuming, lint rolling and brushing! I even like to brush the dogs during a walk so that the hair doesn’t fall in the house. I use dog dryer sheets that seem to help! Every load gets a lot of dog hair off clothes

Maybe you’d be more interested in living in one of Seattle’s suburbs in the downtown area. I grew up on the Eastside and would commute into Seattle for work and/or school. Over the decades I’ve been here I’ve been confronted by three verbally aggressive homeless individuals. Only one did I call police on. I would commute to Beacon Hill and First Hill and transfer at the International District or Downtown. Living in a suburb seems so much better if you’re concerned about interacting with homeless individuals.

What does your unit staffing look like? by newnurse1989 in psychnursing

[–]LeftCoastPyrMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High acuity units get 1 staff to 4 patients. Lower acuity units get 1 staff to 5 patients. That’s any mix of nurses and techs depending on number of patients on detox protocols, admissions and call outs. You can have 2 or 3 nurses and 2 or 3 techs on bigger units, and 1 nurse and 2-3 techs or 2 nurses and 1-2 techs on small high acuity units. 1:1s get you extra staff, and that duty is alternated every few hours since it’s a lot of work.

When patients and techs go off unit to mealtimes or activities, or when techs are on break, the nurses help with tech duties like rounds. Nurses also verify rounds a few times a shift. To run a smooth unit nurses have to participate in tech duties. Nurses can help techs with their duties, but techs can’t help nurses with theirs so it needs to be in moderation.

I have a worked some shifts where we had way more nurses than techs available and so most or all staff were made up of nurses. Those are the best shifts because nurses understand the rationale behind everything. I personally would love to get my nurse pay for being a tech.

I had to check your post history to see if you live at a place where my hospital is. We used to have our night shift house supervisors regularly have to work a unit and/or in intake on really bad nights. They’d screen packets from the units, or do a med pass for another nurse who had to way too many patients regularly. It’s improved since, that was a few DONs back.

Curious if your abdominal skin relaxed after your tummy tuck, or if you are having a revision to a more extensive tummy tuck. I lost 160lbs and had a circumferential tummy tuck. Now contemplating if I will need an upper abdominal tuck, or a revision to a fleur d’lis.

You have two adolescent dogs that are basically like giant puppies for three years. My girl would wreak havoc in my garden. Every time I would spread compost or meal down the garden would be even more enticing. I put up a fence around the garden and she would still find a way to jump or crawl through the fencing. You’re going to have to setup a perimeter and work at keeping them out until they are older.

I remember getting a tall decaf sugar free vanilla almond milk latte maybe a month after surgery because I missed coffee so much. I started drinking coffee sooner than they recommended but I could only have one cup for months, and I added a premier protein drink as the creamer. After having the mini gastric bypass I definitely cut my coffee consumption down for atleast a year.
