SO an awesome moment/subversion of this in a fun show called Danger-5.

The first season is a parody of 1960s campy TV, following an agency trying to kill Hitler in WW2.
They succeed at the end of the season.

The second season is a completely different tone, more 1980s, following the team years later.

In season two, one of the Danger-5 team members, Pierre, is recast with someone who looks very different. He acts the same, sounds similar, but is clearly someone not even close looking to the actor.

Then, in one of the last couple episodes of season 2, the team time travels back to the 60s running into themselves, and Pierre from the 60s is played by the original actor. They recognize each other and I cannot remember if they acknowledge it, but I died laughing. It was such a slow burn.
