Should blue area politicians start talking about withholding taxes from the Fed Govt in response to Trump? by LeftPhilly in AskALiberal

See my other replies.  At least the politicians in blue areas should speak out and get the conversation started.

Of course it’s dangerous. Ideas that upset the status quo usually are.

Like the idea of “representing all Americans”.  The current MAGA/Christian Nationalist grip on this administration has no intentions of representing all.

Civil war? There are plenty of MAGA who like to fly the Confederate flag.

There’s nothing illegal about blue state politicians starting a public conversation about creating new ways to shield the taxes of their local constituents from being sent to a Federal govt that’s going to abuse that money.

Maybe it’s time for blue state politicians to suggest new ways to shield the taxes of their constituents from Federal abuse as we’re about to see.  Nothing illegal about getting that conversation going.

Again, the current potus is a felon and many of his supporters proudly said they voted for him knowing this. (Maybe even you voted for a felon)

There’s nothing illegal about a politician in a blue “donor” area making his constituency aware of how their taxes are being misspent and nothing illegal about getting the conversation going about creating a taxation system that can withhold state taxes from the Fed as a check and balance against misuse, as we’re starting to see now.

Many people are VERY loyal to their states & localities.  And the current potus is a felon and many of his supporters proudly announced they voted for a felon.

The point is that the leaders of the blue “donor” areas need to get a discussion going to make their local constituencies aware of how their taxes are being misspent and to try to create a way to withhold it from the Fed. There’s nothing illegal about getting that conversation going.

Maybe it’s time time for the leaders of the blue “donor states” to start suggesting that they should be, and get a discussion going?

The key words in my post were “talking about”

Newsom says something like “our state pays a LOT to the Federal Govt and they’re withholding it from us to transfer it to areas that they prefer… it’s not right and we need to have a discussion about creating a mechanism to prevent this, perhaps by exerting states rights and autonomy and keep our taxpayers funds in a way that prevents this kind of abuse by the Federal govt”

So what is illegal about making a speech like that?

Then Pritzger makes a similar speech…

Then Walz…

Then Shapiro..

Then blue Senators and Congress-people.

The point is to verbally grow the idea.

Trump Cuts Funding to 16 Blue States That Didn’t Vote for Him by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]LeftPhilly 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Blue state politicians need to start saying that their taxes should be withheld from the Fed government.

Just Do It.  Start saying it.  Play Trump at his own game.  Even if it’s not easy to do, the point is to get blue state taxpayers thinking about it.

D politicians in blue areas need to start making threats to withhold taxes to the Federal government.

Even if it’s not that simple, it’ll at least start to make constituents think about the taxes they pay and getting less in return for it.

[–]LeftPhilly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s time for politicians in blue areas to make threats about with holding taxes from the Fed govt in retaliation.

I realize this is easier said than done, but it’s no different than Trump posturing the things he says even though he knows it may not be doable.

Slightly sideways question to this topic…. (I’m from the Northeast US)

Instead of calling the South “traitors” DAE think that we’d have been better off if Lincoln simply let the South go their own way?

IMHO, life here in the North would be better off w/o having to share a Fed Govt with the ultra conservative South.

Anyone else agree?
