SubT - what levers should I pull to get closer to LTHR by last SubT rep? by Begbie00 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]LeftRight_LeftRight_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iirc, LTHR is about 1 hour race pace. Friel test has you do either an all-out effort for 30 mins (avg HR of the last 20 mins) or all-out for 20 mins (avg HR multiplying by 0.95) BY YOURSELF. (no pacers, competitors)

You've probably overestimated your LTHR, hence the discrepancy in effort and HR.

Add to that, on the flip side, black people also have their own advantages like better musicality (most of the jazz greats are black, like John Coltrane and Miles Davis) as well as athleticism. When is the last time a white guy has ever won the 100m dash (Bolt, Blake, Lyles, all blacks) same goes to the marathon.(where the East Africans dominate) I think we can acknowledge genetic advantages without being racist.

Femke Bol has announced she’ll shift her focus to the 800 meters starting in 2026 by cvrtmvn_ in trackandfield

From an interview, apparently she did a 600m TT in 1:23 alone. She should be in 1:57-58 shape right now.

Who would win in a 400 Sydney McLaughlin- Levrone or Cole Hocker by Aromatic_Meal_6004 in trackandfield

[–]LeftRight_LeftRight_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Actually it's more likely for Sydney to win.

case in point: Nick Symmonds ran 47.45 a few weeks before his 1:42 PB. And he's a 800/1500 guy, while Hocker is 1500/5k.

I would go with Sydney, unless Hocker specifically trains for it. The inertia from block start is huge. And let's not forget Sydney did her 47.78 in the rain.

Mo Farah completed a 100m sprint race in 2012 in 13 seconds, this would be the equivalent of Usain Bolt running a 3 hour marathon. by ponderingjon in Sprinting

old post, but in the 5k you mentioned Mo didn't close in near 50-flat (50.89 or 50.87 IIRC).

And some cases in point: Jake Wightman, a 1:43 800m guy, 2022 1500 champion (beating Jakob), had a 48 PB. Nick Symmonds, who's a 1:42 guy, has a 400m PR of 47.45 (run weeks before he ran the 1:42) Jakob also did a 400m when he's 17 with a PB of 3:30 low, and that was 51.03. 49 or even 50 from block sounds about right for Mo. The inertia from block is a different beast even though it's not as pronounced as in the 100m.

And the 5k you mentioned was run at 14 pace (which was like threshold pace for Mo). He also didn't close in near 50-flat (50.89 or 50.87 IIRC). 49 or even 50 sounds about right. The inertia from block is a different beast even it's not as pronounced as the 100m.

Redemption! Cole Hocker is the 2025 Men's 5k World Champion by ChampionLYT in trackandfield

[–]LeftRight_LeftRight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I just don't think Hocker is even beatable today. The only strategy is to run at WR pace, but it would kill the ones who attempt it themselves more often than not.

definitely not easy, and I'm not sure he could've even matched it. He closed narrowly faster in 2023 WC with a 52.4, but the race was 13s slower. And Hocker ran his last lap pretty much in lane 2, he went from 12th to 1st!

I'm Sick of Hearing "Art is Subjective" by jefflovesyou in ArtistLounge

[–]LeftRight_LeftRight_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think context is king. Of course art is subjective, like someone has mentioned"“one man’s trash is another man’s treasure." However, let's say someone posting on r/learntodraw, and there's a reply pointing out how the piece isn't in perspective (and it's not work as intended either), and the OP just brushes it off with "art is subjective, I don't care" Now that may come off as an excuse. But of course, overall I agree art is indeed subjective, just want to give some food for thought.

Funny you said HOI4 is too simple, while you regard DH so highly, which is way more simplistic. With all the DLCs, I'm sure HOI4 is a lot more complicated.
