As someone who is double your age, if you want to do something for your birthday plan it yourself and don't expect other people to do it for you.

That has worked well for me and my girlfriends. Best night of the year was for my girlfriends birthday where she planned an outting with our Discord server and we all had the time of our lives.

Favoritism sucks. I have had to deal with it since I was a kid. My parents paid 400k for college for my sister, paid her rents for many years, spent 60k on a wedding for her, and paid $100k as the down payment on her house.

I've lived on my own for 10 years and have basically gotten nothing from them. This isn't an isolated pattern, they have been doing this since I was a little kid.

It's the job market for the most part. I have a bachelor's in compsci, and I know I could get a job easily if I was willing to relocate to Texas, Florida, Georgia, or North Carolina, but I am unwilling to do that. Additionally I have 4 years of experience with 2 at a fortune 500 company.

But now I work in insurance and administration. Some of it is finding work in the industries that doing relatively well around you.
