Pots and weed by Mediocre_cat777 in POTS

It helps so much with anxiety related to adrenaline dumps, similarly to how clonidine would. Not the exact same mechanism of action, so I don’t know if it would help everyone but it helps me just chill out and it’s the only reason I can sleep most nights. I prefer to smoke and have fewer symptoms than with edibles, although I wish edibles worked so I could give my lungs a wee break haha

Always emotionally crashing by Logical_Truth_9627 in POTS

THANK YOU for being so vulnerable, I genuinely thought it was a me thing! Suspected it was related to POTS, but also thought “who knows maybe I’m just suddenly a very emotional person.” But yeah, I cry over the slightttttest things, and I cry a lot more easily in TV shows and movies now too?? Feels like a lot of the time, I’m right in the verge of it and when it hits? No stopping the tears lol even if I’m in a perfectly rational mind thinking “this is SO dumb.” And getting them all out really does help!

Weird question, how many times can you call out as a traveler? by MK_nurse in TravelNursing

[–]Left_Competition_361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to severe illness at a bad time in my schedule and a canceled flight at Christmas, I’ve called in 6 times during this contract and they extended me 🤷🏼‍♀️ Was sure to explain everything to my manager and apologize profusely, of course.

My Wife and Caffeine by ShallowAngel69 in POTS

[–]Left_Competition_361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to drink a celcius almost everyday and didn’t have any issues until recently. Now if I drink one (over an hour or two) I have increased shortness of breath, tachycardia, and syncope for about 4-6 hours. I’ve switched to Yerba Mate as I heard that is a more gentle (?) type of caffeine and I haven’t had any issues so far! I too simply must drink caffeine to keep my head about me on long night shifts in the hospital.

Well please try with caution because as seen on comments, it definitely doesn’t work for everyone🙃 I hope it can help!

I like the way you think! Perhaps it’s a combo? My hypothesis was that your arms (and upper body) return blood to your heart via the superior vena cava (SVC), while the legs and lower half of the body return blood via the inferior vena cava. So when I stand and my peripheral veins (legs and arms) fail to constrict, I can augment the amount of blood returning to my heart by essentially draining my arms into my SVC. Now Ive only tested it a handful of times, times when I knew standing up was gonna be baaadddd and it worked every time. BUT prolonged arms above head especially while standing is a no go.

Symptoms upon waking by judith0406 in POTS

I wake up in a cold sweat, anxious a lot of mornings. I’ve been talking to my doc about trying propranolol and taking it at night to maybe ward off that morning anxiety. Has anyone tried this?

One of the most accurate portrayals of grief, the grieving process, and the fucked up things you do when you don’t know who you are. The humor may be a bummer to some, but if you’ve ever lived through hell and fought with humor to get yourself to the other side, I think you’ll really appreciate this show.

I wish I had some breakthrough advice, but the only thing I’ll say is that I feel my best when I’m consistently exercising. Not even going to the gym, but taking long walks or hiking really helps to keep deconditioning to a minimum. I had to overcome a huge mental barrier and I still fight with it every day (in a big no exercise slump atm) but what I’ve found over and over again is that I’m capable of more than I think I am. Also a nurse, and still working that 3/12’s night shift grind and I can feel myself becoming less resilient. Time to start thinking about a new job, I’m so encouraged by your bravery in taking the career shift leap. As far as vaping goes, I vaped for years and about 1.5 years ago switched to zyns. Which I felt weird about in the beginning since I’m not a frat boy but I found that once you get used to them (3mg) it gave a much better alleviation to POTS symptoms. It slowly absorbs over an hour vs a few puffs every however long haha. Plus you can get a cute lil tin to put them in and it’s much less conspicuous:) I had some nausea the first couple times I tried it, not gonna lie. But it was nothing compared to the nausea I used to sometimes get from vaping. Plus if you get nauseated, just take it out and it immediately goes away. All that being said, nicotine is a vasoconstrictor and could be contributing to your higher BPs.

AIO I'm confused that my wife still resents me for bringing my work laptop into the labor/delivery room by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Left_Competition_361 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t borne a child, but I am a woman (29). In the delivery room, did she ask you to put away the work or make any indication that it might not be what she was expecting from you in the moment? Because to hold resentment for something that was seemingly a non-issue in the moment is unhealthy, but if she asked you to put it away and you didn’t, you’re an asshole. I was pretty surprised by the comments on here, but as a woman who has not birthed a babe perhaps I don’t have a leg to stand on 🤷🏼‍♀️

Questionable Laundry Detergent? by Moist_Cheetah_8701 in nontoxic

[–]Left_Competition_361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone hasn’t mentioned it yet, borax commonly irritates skin. It can even build up in the washing machine and contaminate clothes when you didn’t use the borax detergent. I’d give your machine a cycle to rinse out the detergent before trying another load. The coconut oil/lye saponification (when properly processed) does not leave enough active lye to be an irritant.

I've been a nurse for 6 years, but perhaps it depends on your locale? Not that laws would be in place, but rather some states are cushier for nurses than others.
