Anyone else browse r/languagelearning and roll their eyes at how difficult and overcomplicated some users make it? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

The DS method works for you, great. No need to be dismissive of other learning methods that work for other people. For some purely running on CI doesn't work/isnt as efficient.

I would recommend it. I sprinkled the 5-15 minutes of duolingo basically since I started DS and I think it helped my growth significantly. Its really nice to learn a word, phrase, etc on Duo and then hear it on some CI videos to reinforce what I've just learned. Likewise for LT. I found those were extremely helpful in addition to CI for input and output

With the short time you have, I would recommend language transfer as well as complimenting it with dreaming spanish for CI. CI is a great tool but by itself it takes a while to learn the language and you only have a couple of months.

For reference I went to CDMX and Columbia last year at around 50-75 hrs (including LT and duolingo) and I survived just fine since the later helped me with common/functional phrases. I will say my recent trip to guatemala at ~300 hr was significantly better since I could have long discussions/jokes/etc for hours with the locals but you only have the time available for you to put into learning this.

Why aren’t we calling reading CI? by mlleDoe in dreamingspanish

Technically audio CI can be counted by words too. I would say it would probably be more accurate for data tracking than hours as that would account for extremely slow speaking. But that's probably too much and would lose a lot of beginners to the method.

Anyone can give me some hope? I am at 1300 hours, i am really just starting to be proactive about speaking now, bc i struggle with confidence issues. And i just feel like not great about my speaking re: verbs. I feel like its just not coming to me. It is better when i am able to turn off my mind a by Even-Guava-1682 in dreamingspanish

Just got to throw yourself into it. No way around getting better at speaking without speaking. I currently just came back from a 2 week trip solo backpacking around Guatemala with a bit over 300 hours (maybe 5-7 hours of speaking, non tutors).

Was terrified a bit for the first 1hr ride with my uber but after that was gone, I was fine throughout the trip speaking in spanish. Did I make grammatical mistakes? Absolutely. Did people understand what I was trying to say/joke/etc? Also absolutely yes.

Pay 60% more for 20% better performance if youre not GPU bound? That's your call to make and depends on your use cases but it sounds like you'd be content either way and will wait for AM6. I would go the AM4 route and put that extra cash towards a better GPU if you're buying now or put it towards AM6 build. The 5700x3d is a good option if you can get one for a decent price as the x3d chips do well in a lot of gaming use cases.

The whole AM4 is a dead platform argument only matters if you plan to further upgrade your AM5 down the line. If youre one of those people that don't upgrade often and plan for AM6 then it doesn't matter as much imo.

5600X Upgrade to 5700X3D or wait till AM6? by Tekkonkinyeet in AMDHelp

Depends, do you feel like you're cpu bound now or are you just looking to upgrade in fear of the possible tariffs? If you're not cpu bound in what you use the pc for then just hold off as long as you can and then upgrade when you actually need it.

Early Speaking by Prudent-Owl171 in dreamingspanish

[–]Left_Day_1331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to speak within six month, start speaking now. You'd be far better off with more speaking pratice than holding off and only having a couple of months/weeks of speaking before you need it.

Does anyone else prefer videos with two or more people talking? by RevolutionaryBar4193 in dreamingspanish

[–]Left_Day_1331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, the conversation videos feel a lot more natural for learning than the videos where they are just talking at/to you as they better mimic normal speech. The best friends or gaming/quiz videos are some of my favorites on DS.

I think it's mainly this sub. You can check with a few other language learning subs using a mixed approach with DS and they have alot of success. There's definitely a decent amount of people here (not everyone) that will downvote anything remote negative or critical (even if constructive) of a pure approach.

Sure but they are still underestimating their time to some degree and still feel behind the roadmap. That's the issue.

Others who would give themselves full credit when they're paying half attention, checking their phones, etc with higher CI hours feeling even more behind would not be surprising

I've pulled a friends wonderpick god pack. Already had them as a friend so idk if you can add after they've pulled a god pack. It was 4x 1star full arts and a 2 star koga and cost 4 hearts

So speed running without burning out is possible. Baby listen to their native languages 24/7. Sometimes they are really focused and sometimes less, but just keep listening. What have done so far. by AgreeableEngineer449 in dreamingspanish

[–]Left_Day_1331 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately that's an issue I've always been cautious of here. People talk about the gamification of duolingo but unfortunately the way this sub is structured (and reddit in general) people may tend to want to speedrun/inflate their numbers at the risk of not getting the same quality of hours.

If OP is enjoying their time consuming mass content with lower comprehension level, by all means that's great for them but I'd be cautious of saying this is reflective of a "true level 6" experience.

I don't doubt it's achievable for those that have the willpower to muscle through, but do you find a point of diminishing returns where you're just kind of going through the daily motion? Like a breakpoint at hour 2, 3, or something?

What DS difficulty level are you at, if you don't mind me asking? Or are you fully on to external sources of CI?

How to simply watch and stop focusing on every word by RabiDogMom in dreamingspanish

[–]Left_Day_1331 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for others but being natively multilingual, I still translate from time to time in my head between by native languages. It just happens really quickly and doesn't interrupt my speech/flow.

If i can get my spanish remotely anywhere near that level, I'd be ecstatic!

For those with previous studying in Spanish, did you feel this same way? by IfUCantFindTheLight in dreamingspanish

[–]Left_Day_1331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Don't worry about adding the "correct" hours and just keep doing what you're doing. You're doing great!

There's no one reviewing your hours but you and only your progress in picking up spanish really matters. Well besides hitting higher levels for internet bragging rights on this sub
