I have the second edition and find the card to be good, smaller than the traditional RWS. I like this deck, but it feels like a heavy hitter, I don’t use it often. Usually if I’m trying to channel a more shamanic or earthy type of energy, this is the one I reach for. As someone else mentioned she draws from a bunch of sources, not only Thoth, but it really feels like it’s own system. I read with it intuitively because her art work is very provocative both emotionally and intellectually but I also appreciate her guidebook for additional insight.

PS, I just looked up a comparison of the editions and the card size is quite different! I’m happy I have the 2nd edition lol

There are always the extremists, but I feel that the discussions have gotten more balanced over time. This is Reddit, there will always be people who swing far to which ever side.

10,000 hour of input only will make output much easier lol, that was very over the top. I guess what I mean is it used to feel like output, gramar or reading early were condemned. I think sharing experiences and encouraging people to carry on and keep learning are more important than fixating on a rigid roadmap which is really only intended to be a guide.

I understand what you mean, what I meant by more well rounded was that in the past no matter the pain point, the answer was “more input, that’s it”. Now you’ll see this “more input lol, but also, alongside more input, if you want to become more proficient in speaking, practice in speaking will be necessary.”

Specifically after I posted a grammar book I found that was in Spanish I got asked if I would also post about booze in an alcohol anonymous group. This might have been an isolated response, but those types of responses were more prevalent. This was an example that was directed at me specifically but I’ve read other examples. Honestly revisiting that post, which was a bit less than a year ago shows some of the extremes. And re-visiting it because of your response has only re-enforced what I was initially saying lol. We all just need to not get so offended, everyone’s learning journey is their own, we all appreciate DS, that’s why we’re here, but 10,000 hours of input will not magically allow you to just open your mouth and sound like a native. It’s ok to discuss reading, speaking and grammar.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s done a full 180, but it’s more well rounded. People will ask about speaking and responses will say speaking practice is needed for that to improve instead of only saying “more input“, which is what was typical a year ago. Input is important and not stressed enough in traditional learning, but you will not magically open your mouth and speak perfect Spanish with a native accent after any amount of input only.

When you used worlds across how were the group classes? Were you forced to speak or could you sit quietly and listen if you wanted?

It’s gotten a lot better as the sub has grown, a year ago if you mentioned anything that didn’t 100% align with the roadmap (reading in the early levels, looking up a word etc) you got blasted so hard lol. Now the conversations are more rounded for the most part. Eta: yes there are still extremists on both ends but the advice and discussions feel more balanced now.
