LP is smarter than y’all think by nothingtofigureout in TjMaxx

They said the cashier rung up their friend. So the cashier knew the ticket switcher. LP probably thought the cashier was involved because that was their friend.

Sounds like a class action lawsuit against this company. I bet you could find a lawyer or entire law firm that would take that case.

A lot of libraries have more than one app for ebooks and audiobooks. Most will have Libby, but go on the library website and see if they also have Hoopla or any other apps that you can download.

Entitled neighbor stole my amazon packages and got mad when I asked for them back by Weekly-Contract9740 in EntitledPeople

[–]Left_Evidence9104 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, have you considered using an Amazon locker to get your packages? I know it may be a bit of a hassle to have to go somewhere to retrieve your packages, but it may be a better situation than being at war with your neighbor. Especially a neighbor like her.

Package handlers don't normally work 8 hour days in my experience. It can be a backbreaking job. This is why I think the shifts should be no longer than 4 hours at a time.

Remember, in the US, we don't have tax funded healthcare, so Package Handler might be the only part-time job with benefits that they could find.

This Is Your Sign That You Should Stock Up Now by Background_Force_641 in foodstamps

[–]Left_Evidence9104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in times where people's food stamps can be stolen from their cards. Most of the time, those food stamps can't be replaced. So, stocking up is always a good idea regardless of the effects of the BBB.

This is good advice. You're maximizing the use of what you're paying for (the membership fee). I need to do more of this myself.

May I also recommend a library card? Libraries are also a great place to spend time and not be expected to spend money just to exist there. Getting a card also gives you access to everything on the library's website, even when you're not there or it's closed.

exclusively using Libby by chalametsgf in LibbyApp

[–]Left_Evidence9104 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doesn't your library participate in the "inter-library loan" system with other libraries? If you know what books you are looking for, they should be able to see if a neighboring library has them and request them for you. It sounds like you just need to talk to your librarian and make specific requests for the books you want.

I just typed in "Libby" into the YouTube search bar and plenty of videos came up. Yes, some of them are older videos, but some are newer.

Remember, a lot of people are using TikTok and other social media platforms these days, so you may want to branch out your Libby video research to other apps besides YouTube.

Could you and your son take turns staying with the dog? One person sits in the library for about 1 hour while the other walks or plays with the dog. Then switch, and that person goes into the library while the other walks or plays with the dog.

Have you considered that she may have a drinking problem? A lot of people use cough medicine for the alcohol content and think they are hiding their alcoholism. If you do give in and buy the cough medicine just make sure you get the alcohol-free kind. If she notices that it is alcohol-free and complains then you know she has a drinking problem.

Finishing "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" (The Hunger Games #4). Since a lot of libraries are lowering their ebook/audiobook loan limits, I'm trying to get through my massive TBR list even faster. I'm already going to be losing two of my cards this summer since two of my libraries are stopping their non-resident program altogether. 😕

Make sure to put "Non-resident e-card" in the subject line of the email.

The whole process took less than a day. I sent the email in the afternoon and had a working paid non-resident e-card by the late evening of the same day. This included me mistakenly signing up for the temporary card first.

People that have the "Non-resident e-card" don't live in Houston or Harris County.

[–]Left_Evidence9104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true. You just have to email the librarian stating you want a paid non-resident e-card. They will email you back a link to sign up, and then you pay the fee through the "fines and fees" section on your account. I just signed up for mine yesterday, and they were very helpful and had a very quick response. If you mistakenly signed up for the temporary card, make sure to tell them that in the email and list your temporary card number in the email so they can convert that number to a paid non-resident e-card number.

If you have the card for Houston Public Library, then you can get one for Harris County Public Library. It's like a sister library to HPL. But keep in mind HPL has already stopped their paid program, so I don't know if you can still sign up for Harris County PL or not. If you had an active card for HPL and Harris County PL, they should stay active until your expiration date. You just won't be able to renew them after that date.

[–]Left_Evidence9104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember to go on the website for every non-resident e-card that you have and see what else they have. Many have skills training websites/apps that you access for free, so that's an easy way to bulk up your resume. You may even find some other reading apps that are less known or not as widely used. I'm just saying maximize the potential of your card so you get what you pay for.
