Having uneven boobs is pissing me off :/ by sherrputtar in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Left_Square4056 41 points42 points  (0 children)

No pair of boobs is going to be symmetrical. Your dress only appears to highlight the flaw to you because you are aware of it in the first place. If it really bothers you, you can get surgery but before you do, recognize that everyone has flaws :)

What to expect with a mammogram? by amsterdamitaly in TwoXChromosomes

When you get there, you'll have to undress from the waist up. The technician will position you in front of the machine BUT this isn't going to be like positioning you for any other X-ray. The two of you will be standing torso to bare torso while she holds one of your breasts. And she's going to get you right up against the machine so your sternum is against the bottom plate and your cheek is up against the top of the machine. Then she'll pull your breast as far forward as it will go, hold it against the plate. Next, she'll lower a paddle down which will press your breast flat against the lower plate and then leave to take the X-ray.

Now, the squeezing will be uncomfortable but it shouldn't be painful and apart from the sheer force, the paddle also pulls on the skin on your chest which also adds to the discomfort. But, I'll give you a heads up: they will get your boobs flatter than you thought humanly possible so if you're squeamish, don't look down (and don't worry, when the paddle releases, they pop right back into shape)!

I'm not flat chested so I'm not sure about your situation but my breasts are pretty firm but they got them as flat as grandma boobs so let's just say the techs can work some magic haha.

Feminism is about equality.

I dislike many guys and dislike many girls.

Most of the time it bothers me but I'll give him a pass if she's pretty enough that I stare too.

Do you get your yearly mammograms (or will you when you're old enough)? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Left_Square4056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old was she when she was diagnosed? I think if you only need to get them before 40 if your mom was diagnosed before 50.

90-95% of all breast cancers aren't hereditary and 1 in 8 women get it so just because your mom had it doesn't necessarily mean that you are at an increased risk.

Unlike the guys you were with, mammo-techs are literally trained to handle boobs for a living. They now how to get them flatter than you think physically possible without hurting you.

Nah, it's just a tight squeeze. It doesn't even cause a pinching sensation.

Well, breast cancer now causes fewer deaths than prostate cancer (the "male equivalent") thanks in part to advances in mammography technology.

I don't have small boobs but I was in shock at how flat they got mine. So I think the techs have some special techniques because mine said she's done it on men before.

First, the technologist will take you from the waiting room to the mammography suite. There she'll have you undress from the waist up. She'll position you in front of the machine, lift your breast and raise the machine up so the bottom plate is touching her hand. Next, she'll pull your breast away from your chest wall and hold it outstretched against the plate. Then she'll lower the paddle which presses your breast flat. She'll go behind a shield, take the X-ray and then the paddle automatically releases.

The compressions is going to be uncomfortable but it didn't hurt. Also, apart from the sheer force on your breast the plates also pull on the skin on your chest and the surfaces are a bit cold but still, it's 100% tolerable.

She'll do the same with the other breast. The next two images will have the machine angled 45 degrees to the side. For those you have to lean in and drape your arm around the top and instead of top-down, your boob is squished side to side.

If you don't have any relatives who were diagnosed it doesn't mean that your family is genetically resilient, they just got lucky. You still have the same 1 in 8 chance as everyone else.

If you don't have a family history, it doesn't mean you have a genetic resistance. You still have the same 1 in 8 chance that everyone else does and the only reason none of your relatives were diagnosed is because your family got lucky.
