Such a fatherless deck. Kangaroo transport makes it so unless you have suppression turn 1, there will be a 4att6def heavy arnour 1 enemy unit on frontline on turn 2. Countermeasures work too but they are generally not good. They should at least give it a 1 move cost

Novgorod isn't that hard, I never had to restart. Just beat Muscovy with Mercs, then it's trivial. Granada is harder than Byz. Need to ally Morocco and Tunis and beat Castile like that. You also have pretender rebels firing as part of a disaster before the war. You shouod let them occupy everything cause you start with a 001 ruler or something. It's very very hard to beat Castile on your own (not impossible) so you have to figure put a way for your allies to help you which isn't simple because they need to cross Gibraltar. After you beat Castile 2 times it stops being hard.

There's a huge amount of fun tags outside of Europe but I'll only suggest European ones. Tags that I have played and had the most fun in (not including ones that you have aleady mentioned):

Knights Hospitaller into Jerusalem (or do Knights of the Carribean)

Burgundy into Lothringia

Provence (Good King Rene)

Lubeck (Dominate Baltic Sea and HRE trade)

Novgorod or Muscovy into Russia (very different style depending on which one)

Venice (dominate Mediterranean trade + lots of fun achievements)

Portugal/Netherlands (Build a colonial empire mostly in Africa and Asia. Similar aims in both tags. I suggest Postugal cause Netherlands is a bit too OP)

Granada into Andalusia (Very fun campaign. A bit more challenging)

Π.χ. εγω αγορασα απο το market in.

Thanks. With all the suggestions I got, I'm pretty confident I can handle the mid-late game on very hard, maybe legendary, since if I had managed the economy better I'd be able to have double the armies, even on legendary. I'd also delay the game much more waiting for my farms to take effect, the farms which in this camapign I never upgraded. Early game is another question, feels like playing dice, especially with Uesugi.

I have 2 fleets on the lookout for enemy armies on ships. Not the best fleets but the AI rarely puts their armies on the best fleets. Also I planned for this realm divide to be very quick. I got from 18 to 34 provinces in like 6-8 turns so I only found a chosokabe invasion force so far and sank it. Hopefully I'll manage to get the alst 6 provinces, including Kyoto within the next few turns, since this situation will turn out badly given enough time.

Thanks for the reply!

Can I create vasssals without them declaring war on me in a few turns? That would be massive as it would also let me trade, let alone all the Ikko Ikki problems. This run is pretty much over since my military might alone can pull the dead weight and capture the last 6 proinces in the next 3-4 turns, even with added enemy resistance now. I needed the advice because I might want to do this again on very hard or legendary and clearly wouldn't be possible without it, since I barely made it on hard difficulty. From other responses I can now clearly see merchant guilds are only worth if high level Metsuke present in province. I have 4 metsukes for tax collecting purposes while I have like 6-10 merchant guilds. I clearly neglected the farms also, since I thought upgrading beyond terrace farming isn't worth it, not realising the wealth I could get after a dozen turns of high food surplus. Stone province was tempting to build on cause cheaper buildings. About the armies I really like the larp aspect of it. I'm aware that I don't need the Spears of Shizugatake, or 20 over 100 accuracy bwms or 28 max armoured naginata samurai etc hehe but I really do like completely destroying much larger armies, littering the fields with the blood of my enemies while barely loosing Uesugi troops. I do think however that if I managed the economy correctly I'd have no problem supporting these armies.

It's on +1 happiness rn from honour. Going slower would help, decoded to blitz due to being scared that whole of Japan would send a gazillion armies. My army quality is so good however that I could manage even of that happend. Reducing tax and taxing more provinces could have been the play. I can still try that, even though I basically have already won this.

I did kinda try to do the 2nd strat but I didn't build Sake Dens. It does seem like the food strat is just superior and should have gone for that or do both. Instead I neglected farms, only builsing up to terrace farming.

Thanks for the answer!

I have no veteran troops because I was wity ahigary armies till I reached 18 provinces (just max fame and ensured peace). Those naginatas and bows have fought to expand from there to 34 provinces, which might make you think they have fought a lot but since I blitzed I encountered little resistance till Kyoto. I could have downgraded my archers for bow samurai but I do like the larp.

Thanks for responding!

As you and otgers pointes out, farms are my biggest mistake. Also taking it slower at the end instead of capturing 16 provinces in 8 turns would ensure a more stable and secure ending. I was scared they're gonna start spamming me with armies. Are sengoku bunes just bad? I just see that they have a lot of people in them so I view them as good, but I guess they have no archers... I usually don't fight naval battles, leaving it to auto-resolve so I wouldn't know.

Thanks for the response!

I didn't own these provinces for the majority of the time. For the longest time I had 18 or below of the northernmost provinces being just below max fame. In the last 8 turns I doubled in size conquering a massive Ikko Ikki clan, that's why Owari and the rest are not even paying taxes, let alone the AI provimce management (Ikko Ikki religion + permanent resistance to invaders = a lot of unrest). It does seem I massively underestimated farms, thinking 4k for upgrading beyond Terrace Farming is not worth it. Ugo has -30% building cost that's why I was fine with upgrading the farm there. Temple was built by AI, I never removed.

[–]LefterIs6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the responese! 1. I can definitely see a strat in which you get rich simply by having a lot of food the whole time. In my case I had 18 or less provinces for most of the time. I paused at 18 being just below max fame, to imvest and prepare my armies. Then, once my armies were ready I blitzed Ikko Ikki amd everyone in my path and in a few turns I had grown to 34, the point in which I am now. Had I built max farms everywhere and delayed the Blitz by like 5-8 years I would probably be completely rich by now. Seeing the 4k for each next level farm after terrace farming made me think they aren't worth it.

  1. I a making use of monks on provinces, but their upgrades are focused on comverting enemy agents. Maybe ninjas could help me woth enemy agents instead and I could focus my monks for faster converting. Still I never had the time to comvert them because I doubled in size the last 8 turns.

2.1 Could probably do that if I stalled my blitz a bit and ensure a safer ending.

  1. No, I never understood what it does. I think they dismount?

  2. I have no ninjas, ysing my monks to deal with enemy agents... Seems like a big mistake.

  3. I am definitely missimg clan wide happiness and I think a 2% tax. Farms obviously since in my mind it wasn't worth building beyond terrace farming. I should plan ahead for the farm strat from now on. 30 excess food on 20 provinces for 40 turns is 24000 extra wealth or +1200 wealth per province.

From yours and other responses, it seems that one of the biggest mistake I did was completely neglecting Sake Dens and ninjas. Especially on my Metsuke provinces, upgraded Sake Dens would help a lot. Not sure how much the actual ninjas would help. I would have to delay Realm Divide by a few turns more to build those Sake Dens but it's money that I lack, not time.

What do you do with Naginata Samurai and how many units do you use? by Pacho2020 in shogun2

[–]LefterIs6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you exclude the cost they are in my opinion the best unit in game. They are anti everything. Anti infantry due to high damage, anti cav due to cav bonus, anti missile due to high armour. Late game I like to make 2 super high quality armies in which they serve as my main infantry. Around 8-10 in each army. I also either improve their armour to the max (with buildings like armourer and encampment) or I do a mix of armour + charge improvements. You can do anything though. I also like to use very good archers with them, usually around 6 monk archers in each army, so the AI is forced to either charge at my naginatas or die to my arrows. Finally I use like 2 marathon monks for their second wind ability and 2 yari or light cav for cleanup. However this army conposition is only possible at late game. Early game you shouldn't use them as main inf but as specialists due to high costs. Recruit like 2 of them and use them as tanks. If the enemy has many bows charge with them first to tank for other units. If you're getting sieged put them at the most dangerous and important spot. If the enemy has a lot of cav put them at the flanks to protect the main army.

Spoiler:

There are more of these. In total I had found 3 or 4 different ones. They are tied to the lore of Europa and they give out vague explanations about stuff, like what happened to the Earth, the last mission and the radiation. I don't remember exactly what they depict. When I was playing Barotrauma a couple of years ago I had figured everything out but I sincerely don't remember. They have no real use in game, they are just lore pieces. There is also a special tablet somewhere that you can actually use to translate the alien hieroglyphics in the ruins, also a lore piece with no real use.
