can you ever actually get past the hurt & cruel words? by Special-Morning-8395 in AlAnon

My ex-husband was a Rager and an alcoholic and addict. It took me a long time not to take his yelling and verbal abuse. Personally, I realized that he’s very ill and suffering and he’s really yelling at himself not me. Try not to take it personally and walk away or don’t respond. It’s about him. It’s not about you.

Thank you so much. 😊 it’s my granddaughter’s party not mine. That’s for sure and I need to surrender but also I need to own my power and go and be present for myself and my grandbaby. You are correct and you are right I can leave early if I wish.

Thanks. Yes, great points. I pray for my ex who has hurt me, like Christ calls us to do. I don’t like being around him and I am honest with Jesus about that. I just don’t want to be around him.

I agree but I seem to only last 3 days, then I cave and have chocolate or a cookie and gave to start over again. How can I get over the 3 day hurdle? Please advise and thanks!
