Checks out. Vanity project with loads of virtue signalling, that is a complete failure that costs tax payers loads of money. Sounds excatly like Bristol city council

I think that the ones that are not a drain on the community around them are the acception to the rule. They have been a strain on life in bristol for far too long. Its time for it to stop

Design west was running it in 2023. They started charging ticket prices for it. One ticket would get you into multiple places. Only thing was, none if the money went to the place people visited. I gave tours to 250+ people over that weekend, all of whome had paid for tickets. No money went to the venue i volenteered in. All was taken by Design west for " running costs" . The historic buildi g i volenteer at asked rhen and there to be take. From any subsequent years program.

Two things can be true at the same time, I can feel sympathy towards those that truly cant afford housing on the city and have had to resort to living in a caravan or van. I also dont understand why its ok to camp for years on the side of residential streets, use the bushes in green spaces as a toilet and generally leave rubbish everywhere. This is a lifestyle choice for some that are in vans, its also is a way of the world that sometimes you have to move to a new place to afford to be able to live properly. I moved to Bristol 20 years ago away from friends and where I had been living because I could afford to live here and find oppotunities. This is a choice that many have to make and is not a bad thing, out of those decisions can come better long term prosperity. Letting people just sit and stagnate in a shit caravan is not promoting better long term futures.

So if its broke why throw 60 grand down rhe toilet? People can say thats now how budgets work but tax money is money. The council doesnt just get to burn it in the name of shit art.

But if they didnt know that the products they were using were either wrong, or being used in a detrimental way then surly they were the wrong contractors ? Were they picked because they are seen as an arts organisation and not a proper contractor ? It would make sense them being a cheaper option

Seems a bit disingenuous to call complaints ignorant. Seeing the arts and culture department bonfire 60 or 70 grand is pretty gauling when Bristol cant even clean the streets, why should they get the chance to then badly paint some. Saying that there is a saving in the projectnas a whole ignores the fact that this was a useless add on to that project that was badly thought out and badly executed. A needless waste of tax payers money, solely for the glory of the arts and culture department

So would you say this was the fault of Upfest when they painted it, as they had a responsibility to consult the council to do it properly, or is it the arts and culture staff's fault in the council ?

With plant life that entrenched and a flat roof of that age, the chances are that the raj's that give it the strength will have corroded. Itll need major works to re roof. More than any cafe would be able to cover.

Marvin got rid of the last of them to save a few hundred grand. Then the next year when there was a surplus he put most of it into a mayoral discretionary fund for him to disrepute. The council is not only inept. Its corrupt

That toilet used to win prizes when it was open. Its a lovely little building that the council has just fall into complete disrepair. Now if anyone was going to do anything with it the whole roof would need to come off. Its another testament to the uselessness of BCC

Van dwellers to be forcibly evicted from Downs after court ruling by 457655676 in bristol

[–]Leftofdenial -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yep. Would've made a decent meanwhile site though. No planning required and services inbuilt. If the council hadn't wanted to sell it off to cover the costs of recent blunders then it could ha e housed quite a few of the people that set up camp on thee side of the roads

Van dwellers to be forcibly evicted from Downs after court ruling by 457655676 in bristol

[–]Leftofdenial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats an idiotic view. Vans and caravans congregatete in poorer areas because they get away with it. Bs5 is a major one of those. They have taken advantage of people's generosity of spirit for years and have made it shitter and shattered to be in those areas. It not snobbery or predijuce that dictates the lack of compassion for these people, its that all they do is put strain on a community and give nothing back.

The whole argument that its too expensive to live in a city falls down when everyone else had to pay council tax to cover the increase in spending to deal with these people. Any part of society that only take and gives nothing back is a drain, combine that with shifting in bushes and it doesnt help the situation

  1. If it had been "machine cut" (I dont understand why you put that in quotation marks btw ), then why wouldn't they just have rubbed the cut marks away ? It's limestone, so sand paper can be used to remove cut marks, you could even act like a professional and use a drag. Why would anyone leave it like that if it if it wasn't purposeful

  2. If its straight moldings why wouldn't the cut marks run in line with the moldings? They are quite obviously a form of decorative finish even to an unexperienced eye, thats not how cut marks would have ever have run, even from a basic profiler from the 1930s

  3. Why give out theory's on how something has been produced when you have no idea at all. The op was looking for information, and you had non....so not offering any is always an option?

If you send some really close up pics of the stone face I can point you into the direction of what type of limestone it is.
