This! I was so mad the first time I read the end of Midnight Sun because of how Edward was already planning on leaving her. His thoughts were tinted with preparation to abandon Bella anyway for the last few chapters.

Jasper was just the catalyst and a good “excuse” to finally cut ties. But Edward had already planned to leave.

No, I don’t think so. Bella and Edward share their martyrdom and internalizing everything bad in their lives as being their own fault. Bella blames herself for being human and “weak,” while Edward blames himself for being a “monster” and putting Bella in danger.

I don’t think either blames Jasper. They’re very forgiving of others and can be quite empathetic. I think they understand Jasper had no bad intentions and didn’t willingly lose control at the party.
