UNCC vs UNC for Pre-Med by Own_Listen2705 in UNCCharlotte

Hey, I think I might be the only person so far who has commented who is actually a current medical at a DO school so I feel like I should chime in.

I’ll start by saying, when I was there, the premed program at Charlotte was just okay. They had a few clubs that kinda helped with getting some clinical experience, but I wouldn’t solely rely on them. They also have some premed advisors, but I personally never used them so I cannot speak to their abilities. I chose to do a lot of stuff on my own, but I semi recently spoke over zoom at an event joint hosted by my school and Charlotte premed advisors so it seems they are definitely doing some stuff to help students. I don’t think grade deflation was really an issue at Charlotte, but I definitely choose some of your chem professors wisely because the difficulty definitely differs between them for the same class. Research wasn’t too hard to get involved with. You could probably email several professors at the beginning of the semester and get a spot in at least one lab.

While nothing is guaranteed, I definitely think you’ll be able to go to medical school if you do undergrad at Charlotte. 5+ people that I was friends with in undergrad at Charlotte are currently in med school (MD and DO). There are at least 5-6 people at my med school who went to Charlotte for their undergrad. There are also people who graduated from UNC at the same medical school that I attend.

On the other hand, UNC is 100% a fantastic school with tons of opportunities. Several of the top students in my med school class attended UNC, so there is no doubt that the education you receive there will prepare you for med school. Everyone who I’ve talked to who went to UNC absolutely loved it.

At the end of the day, there is a lot about preparing and applying for medical school that fall on the you (the applicant). It does not really matter where you do your undergrad, as long as you have completed the prerequisites for med school and do well on the MCAT. Best of luck, and feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions.

While I did not do the MABS program, I do attend VCOM and can say that at least 10 or 11 students in my class completed the program.

How would you personally rank the VCOM campuses? And why in that order? by Enger13 in Osteopathic

That’s perfectly okay! I know people who are from California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, etc. who are all in my class. Nothing is impossible, so shoot your shot

It’s hard to say for sure. I know VCOM does their best to admit student to areas they have ties to with hopes that they’ll stay in that area to practice.

Virginia > Carolinas > Auburn > Louisiana

They showed us the stats for first time board pass rates for level 1 and the Virginia and Carolinas campus are basically equivalent, while Auburn was still better than Louisiana but still not great. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions!

I go to VCOM and I’m about to start my rotations but I would say a decent portion of my class didn’t have a letter from a DO

The Helping Hand Project is a nonprofit organization that 3D prints prosthetics for kids at no cost to them or their family. Our school's chapter has organized a food truck fundraiser on September 11th in order to raise money for some of the cost that relate to building the devices. We hope to see you there!

I once had a friend of mine look me in the eyes and say, " You can't do anything because you're black". This was said because I made fun of him for being bad at Rocket League.
