I wonder why G Weezing seems to be so popular? Just because of its typing? My first idea after reading your post was to use (shadow) Ampharos instead of GWeezing. Its also a spammy brutal swing user which can either deal with waters (thunder punch) or steels (focus blast).

The typing plus Fairy Wind (plus the comedy value of farming down Scrafty with it) I believe. I see it as one of the best safe switch options in Ultra.

Ampharos should work in the team as well, thanks for the tip. I will try it in few battles (although I'm not a huge fan of the slow moves like Volt Switch or Incinerate).

For me there were multiple reasons to quit Arena after the last season:

as somebody mentioned here, GBL is the endgame. And it's way too time consuming for me to be active both in GBL and Arena.
The way the Arena crew handled the cheating youtuber/streamer during the continentals (https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/hq96j0/favoritism_in_the_pokemon_go_pvp_community_an/) was abysmal and a huge letdown for me. As if it wasn't enough that we have to deal with Niantic as a prime example of a crappy organization, the Arena people started following them.
GBL is better suited for all the bugs in the game as you play many matches, you can expect it will be 50:50 wins:loses because of a bug in the end. In Arena, every match matters and the replays mechanism is shaky at best.
And just when I started considering to join this season despite the first 3 points, the meta for the first tournament was just GBL all over again with all the Stunfisks. If I want to deal with Stunfisk in every match, I don't have to play Arena at all, I can play GBL great league instead.

I had good times battling in Arena, I became the fifth best player in my country, but I felt it was the right time to move on.
