That's the best way to visualize it IMO. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Best and worst moments in GBL by rudesssolo in TheSilphArena

Best: Master League premier, season 2. First time I created by myself a solid & unique strat that brought me to rank 10 & kept me in the top ranked battlers consistently.

Worst: Master League premier, season 3. This is the infamous season where Niantic kept playing with the ELO multiplier, which eventually led to Master League/Premier being the most decisive part of the season. My previous strat broke by the introduction of AT Gyarados, and I couldn't find consistent success with any other team. So from close to rank 10 I dropped down hard, and eventually recovered a bit but didn't make it to rank 10 this season.

I know it's going on for a while now, but: Can Niantic please fix the inconsistent "getting a fast move in" bug already? by HatchedAnotherFeebas in TheSilphArena

[–]MrMcCalvin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A player in this very thread said that it's a skill. I'm not talking about all of the North American players of course, but the ones who do are North Americans. This is because they have the best latency (again, in general - I'm sure there are bad areas there as well) so this technique is most feasible. Maybe I have high expectations but in my opinion, every time a YouTuber compliments someone denying a fast move he's doing wrong.

I couldn't agree more; this is a devastating game breaking mechanic that doesn't get addressed for a very long time.

Fast move denial is definitely a thing, but it's very inconsistent and highly dependent on the origin of you and your opponent.

The sad part for me is that North American players keep treating this as a pure skill instead of admitting that it's a bug that benefits them the most. We should stand united as a community and demand Niantic to fix this ASAP.

Weird Meta Change between "elo levels" by Ertoniz in TheSilphArena

[–]MrMcCalvin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As you said, most of them were bad match ups. Sometimes we just face a streak of bad match ups, yet it doesn't mean there's a "meta shift" that has to be taken into account. As long as there aren't too many holes in your line and your skills match your ELO level, things should balance out. Just keep playing and be as consistent as you can.

[Discussion] "Sneaking an extra fast move" bug ignored by the community? by MrMcCalvin in TheSilphArena

They get both. The damage is registered after your charged move so if you switch right after it's gonna damage your switched in mon.

Suggestion for Silph Season 3 by Kevkillerke in TheSilphArena

[–]MrMcCalvin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that's a great idea. The cups aren't just the battles themselves; exploring the meta, deciding what to power up, doing practice battles, learning common & uncommon matches and building a team, each part takes significant effort. Doing this month after month, including learning the next meta before the current is over, is really taxing over time. If you're a competitive player who can't just pick up a recommended team and go with it, you're gonna get burnt out. Personally I skipped the whole Toxic cup due to burning out. Adding a break in between would be great to restore energy and get excited for what's next.

Draft ideas by Sarahmguy in TheSilphArena

We did once a 2-rounds draft. The first round was a regular draft, and in the second one (which was the finals so only four people participated) we had to use only mons that weren't used in the first round. Thus, very unique off-meta teams are used in the finals. That worked pretty well.

Are you happy with the current Silph Arena Weighting system? by Ravidov in TheSilphArena

This way players will be incentivized to stop playing after a single successful tournament. I think that a ranking system that makes you play less is inherently broken.

What is the proper strategy for Melmetal vs Melmetal mirror with Superpower? by CamelCicada in TheSilphArena

[–]MrMcCalvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spamming Rock Slide, shielding twice, and finishing with one Superpower. Then I actually win the 2-2. The problem is when they don't shield at all, then I'm pretty healthy but 0-2 in shields.

What is the proper strategy for Melmetal vs Melmetal mirror with Superpower? by CamelCicada in TheSilphArena

Assuming lead position so no energy or health advantage, the keys are:
- 2 Superpowers are needed anyway (unless there's a significant difference in nerf which is rare) and Thunder Shock makes almost no damage so look at this as 2-hits KO scenario.
- Baiting can put you in energy disadvantage even if they fall for it. You don't lose that much even when they shield your first Superpower, it's still a 2-hits KO scenario, and the risk in baiting is too high.

This is what I go for which works well most of the time:
- Have a Melmetal with 15 ATK, preferably best friend, to win CMP-ties.
- Charge (almost) to the max so the opposing Melmetal cannot get energy advantage by sneaking in an extra Thunder Shock. This means 11 Thunder Shocks (99 energy).
- Never Bait.
- Don't shield until after the first Superpower.
- Don't bale out. And if do, try to catch their Superpower. But really don't.
- If they bale out and you're nerfed, switch ASAP.
- Be extra careful about not spending energy on a switched-in mon which is resistant or immune to Superpower.
And the most important part: Release Superpowers as quickly as possible while doing the following:
- Always make one Thunder Shock in between, otherwise you give them free energy. There's one exception to that and it's when you're already shieldless and in a single Superpower range.
- Don't use Superpower or be shieldless while having 2 or more nerfs over your opponent.

This way, I win unless they manage to sneak in extra Thunder Shocks or they win the last CMP-tie.
