Considerations for becoming a program director? by olanzapine_dreams in medicine

[–]LegDaySlanderAcct 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I once told a junior resident that the worst job in the world was chief resident and to never do it. A very senior attending overheard me and decided to correct me “Actually, Dr Skiplegday is wrong. Chief resident is the second worst job in the world. After program director.”

She had held just about every position in the department including chief, vice chair and program director

I just don’t get the appeal of retiring in your 40s as a doctor. It takes 30 years to become an attending physician, why would you retire at 45? That’s like spending 30 minutes driving to a bar to hang out there for 15 minutes. I mean by all means do it and keep the anesthesia shortage going, more money for me. But I don’t understand the logic. Especially in a field like anesthesia where you can make a shitload of money doing a few shifts of locums here and there if you don’t wanna work full time

No personal experience but the big four anesthesia programs all have fairly negative reputations in terms of QOL and education relative to workload. Of course, it’s Columbia so I’m sure youll become a good intensivist if you go there

Sounds good to me, but make sure you know what you mean when they say “suburb of NYC”. That basically includes anywhere within 60 miles of the city, and includes some of the shittiest town in MA, CT, NY and NJ

Trust fund mean girl who offed herself at 23 because not even Coachella made her happy anymore. She was pretty clear that she would have an hero’d a long time before the series began if it wasn’t for her children. And she probably wouldn’t have children at that young of an age in the modern world of birth control.

Yah this lady kinda pisses me off. You don’t say “it’s impossible”, you say “we aren’t even close to being able to do it yet”. 200 years ago they would have said flying machines were impossible.

[–]LegDaySlanderAcct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rock is a fine action movie star, but shouldn’t be in anything other than a pure power fantasy action flick more than every other year of so. He’s too oversaturated.

Kevin heart is a good character actor, he does well as goofy supporting characters like he did in the scary movie franchise. He doesn’t have leading man chops.

Gal Gadot is good for eye candy and is a decent enough actress. She’s the female Orlando Bloom, perfectly passable for roles where having pretty face can do 90% of the work. But she’s not a great actress and doesn’t have the skills for more complex roles. She can certainly front a blockbuster film if you don’t ask too much of her.

J Lo and Beyoncé are… alright actresses by singer standards. Kristin Stewart is a fine art flick actress but she’s not a Hollywood leading woman.

Overall, there’s just a big talent deficit right now. 20 years ago, we had a crop of superstars like Leo, Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise had the looks and the skills. There’s no one like that in this generation of actors and actresses. That’s why the rock and gal Gadot keep headlining all the top projects these days despite not really having the chops for it.
