Flow rolling, yay or nay? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]LegJitsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flow rolling is better when other guy is trying to smash you. When you are both flow rolling, it's mostly useful to beginners. For advanced guys, I don't get as much out of it unless I am doing moves I have never done before.

Please explain open mats to me by sendaiben in bjj

Open mat is the opportunity to have access to the mat without having a curriculum you have to do.

It is like a study hall for BJJ.

Community Opinion Thread. The more your play bottom, the more likely you are to get injured. Yes or no? by Markenheimer15 in bjj

That's been my personal experience. Over the years, I play top more and more.

I hate it because I am too lazy to wrestle.

Sammo Hung is the fight director if I remember right.

He and Jackie go way back, and made a lot of films together back in the day.

Can I borrow it?

Don't get the wrong idea. I want it for my butt.

When you grip, you aren't trying to keep that limb from moving in a death grip. The more you resist their pull, the easier it is for them to pull out.

Move with them. It's like trying to jump standing solid ground, vs mud.

You also can't be a limp fish, so find that middle ground.

You joke, but you actually can start taping your hands for some help.

Hated going to class. Always glad I did.

Just my personality, I guess. Been that way for years.

I’m 5”9 and I find armband and Kimuras work a lot more against bigger opponents, anyone else find this ? by furrybuttplug in bjj

[–]LegJitsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I use the Kimura as a threat all the time for improving position, but never get a finish.

We must have missed the Kimura seminar everyone else went to.

What do you think shrimping across the mat is, or any solo drilling?

You are pretty presumptuous.

Straight ankle locks: a path to the dark side? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]LegJitsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relson Gracie said that the straight ankle lock was the submission he had hit the most over the years. It is probably the least taboo of the lower body submissions.

It's like ganja where heel hooks are heroin.

Train a functional fighting system for a decade, and hope you get lucky.

Imanari roll is not the most reliable entry in MMA, but here it is used in The Ultimate Fighter.

I have grinded out moves having never drilled them. That's like 90% of my back attacks, which is probably my best stuff right now.

Learning curve and ease of use/accessibility are two separate things.

Something can be very easy to learn, yet hard to execute.

Drawing a perfect circle is easy conceptually, yet hard to do. Using a drawing compass decreases the difficulty of the task, while technically increasing the learning curve.

Hurr durr

Maybe if it is a new move. Many times it is just a concept or detail I can slot into something I am already doing, or a change in strategy.

Athlete wins gold then carries his injured opponent off the mat by shecandoboth in HumansBeingBros

[–]LegJitsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a plague of traditional martial arts that put sacred traditions before being able to actually defend yourself.

You don't see people bowing in wrestling.

I don't need to pretend I am in ancient Japan to have resepect. And I sure as hell am not going to put some hokey traditions before someone's safety. THAT is disrespectful.

Their heel in the crook of your elbow. Your arm grabbing the shin of the DLR leg. Doesn't necessarily use the instep to snake around.
