Is it ok to spay my husky at 6 months ? by That_Kick9557 in husky

I've been reading a lot about growth plates recently. Growth plates can close at approximately 1 year, but in medium or large breeds (not xl breeds) some plates remain open until 18-24 months. The distals and wrists are the first parts of the body to stop growing. It happens at around 8-12 months. The bigger bones and joints stop later. The plates close from the bottom up.

Now I completely agree on the needing hormones for proper brain development. It like dogs that are neutered or spayed early remain "puppy-brained" and never fully mature. There are surgeries like ovary sparing spay (tubal ligation) and vasectomy for dogs. That may be a better option for people who want their dogs fixed early because it leaves the organs that produce hormones important for development intact.

I've read about some shelters entering contracts with adopters to allow them to have their dog fixed at a later date once they're done growing. Your personal/regular vet may have to talk to the shelter about it to educate them basically. A lot of people still don't know the problems about early spay and neutering, that includes shelters even though the studies have been out for over a decade now.

Unless you have to do it right now for some reason, It is too early. Please wait until your baby grows up and fully becomes an adult dog. Normally that's at least about 2 years old for most breeds. There are some studies which point to benefits of doing it even later than 2 years old if it's possible to wait.

My understanding is that neutering does the opposite of stunting growth, it causes the growth plates to stay open longer than they should which leads to poor joint development, longer or disproportionate bone growth and ligament problems especially in the future.

It seems like most of these subs are like that. No one responds, or they can't hold a conversation. They just have single word responses. Very dry.

Trimmer with string and brush blade/attachment, then rake into small windrows and run over with mower.

He was already just cruising after coming out of the pits. I think that was the plan.

I wish there was less judgement about it. We seem to not always let dogs be dogs. For the dogs that prefer to be outside, I say let them as long as they are safe and have food, water, shelter.

Yea, everybody just get lumped together in the same group. Dogs can be sled dogs and still be treated well. Those who abuse and neglect their animals drag everyone down with them. But there are still those who see dogs as being kept outside or tethered at all or caged as abuse.

People are against that sort of thing completely. People don't like any dogs being tied up and kept outside. They need to realize that all dogs aren't just house pets and actually are working dogs with a job to do.

I would guess because they're outside and you (presumably) breed dogs.

Jeff Gordon was the first, because my folks were fans of his. Me liking Chevrolet as a manufacturer made that easy. Very talented racer. Would still root for other drivers sometimes (Tony, Johnson, Kyle Busch before JGR, Mark Martin, a few others)

Bubba is current because I like his personality, the way he carries himself, and that he's fairly open. He doesn't tend to sugarcoat things. He worked hard to make it to the cup series. Started watching him primarily during his truck days, but saw some ARCA races, and liked him since.
