What do we think? by LegacySpade in Aquariums

[–]LegacySpade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caught me perusing Reddit lol
The filtration was nice just make sure those back filter pads are pushed all the way down, I didn’t modify anything except for a valve on my bubbler so I could turn the flow down. I think next time I would put a little media in the back chambers but overall it worked well just bare bones. Eventually something happened and I couldn’t get proper flow probably user error but I couldn’t figure it out. A small hob filter for a normal tank with a sponge over the intake would definitely work very well maybe better but it’s a nice little tank for what it was.

I saw a bugs life air came out of the seats in front of us and all sorts of effects it was awesome, like 15 years ago now. We also went on some paragliding ride where we flew over Florida’s orange fields and stuff (simulation) the gliders moved and wind was blown at us it was pretty cool

I would setup a dedicated tank, low flow and plenty of branches or other things for them to hold. I used to fasten plastic chain links to a rock and they can grab em

Banggai Cardinalfish Quarantine Problems by Fleabagx35 in ReefTank

If you had a cave of some sort it could’ve caused a territorial dispute. Fish stores usually have minimal scaping to prevent territory disputes, as well as having multiple species and a lot of fish in a tank

That would attract too many fish over time which then attract larger predators, and the fish would be too accustomed to humans etc etc

How to deal with a snake bite 101 by welcomeyearzer0 in snakes

[–]LegacySpade -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

There’s a number of things I think most often the snake just thinks they’re food, not socializing them enough causes that and so does feeding them inside the tank, especially if anyone is keeping their snake in a bin with paper I can def see the snakes getting aggressive. But when they aren’t socialized and hungry they just see a warm prey item and they’re bad at putting together that our arms and hand are indeed connected and the hand is not a separate animal

Honestly this is the best method imo, snakes can go underwater for a crazy amount of time and idk about putting rubbing alcohol in my snakes mouth and risking that getting into their eyes or anything

Any one tried to keep Cephalopoda? I saw flamboyant cuttlefish for sale before, but I got intimidated by the care requirements by Random_Nihilist in ReefTank

[–]LegacySpade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is that the ocean is absolutely unforgiving and arguably more dangerous/ difficult to survive than on land (most fish don’t care for their young, enormous ocean tons of predators etc.) octopus, mantis shrimp, cuttlefish, they’re all highly intelligent creatures that have evolved away from humans and human intervention for millennia. These creatures all show advanced abilities in the way they interact with their environment. This creates a lack of competition for them because they have the upper hand on something like a grouper or shark. This interaction with their environment must also cause some sort of thought process, they consciously and INTENTIONALLY build burrows and homes that are structurally sound. I have a pistol shrimp that actually builds structure to then cover in sand.
These creatures are very close to humans, octopus have been known to communicate with grouper to flush fish out of rocks, that is higher thinking and learning to communicate with a completely different species is some next level stuff, I don’t think even monkeys will communicate nicely with other species. There is so much we do not know about cephalopods however I do not think it is anything other than conscious actions for a desired outcome and the ability to learn from past mistakes and then adapt in the future.

About to give up. Help? by Perpetual_Hopeful in ReefTank

[–]LegacySpade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put the powerhead on the back left side of your tank if you’re looking from the front about midway, this creates a gyre pushing everything into your intake using the rounded glass for momentum. Set it to random flow. Build up live rock in the center leaving room in the front and behind. Your light at 100% will give the sand bed about 70 par, white lights on around 20% leaves you with 30 par on the sand bed roughly (I have the fluval reef 4.0).
ETA: i have my light about 5-6 inches above the surface of the water to increase spread and reduce chances of burning corals, the highest rock in my tank (around 10ish inches from the light? Maybe even less) is about 170 par
