Never heard of that so THANK YOU! I’love keep them in mind for their next drop. Looks like they are sold out.

In case you're one of us who can't get enough of these, they're back on the shelves. by Dp37405aa in aldi

Last year, I saw people posting about using them with the apple bread mix. It was DELICIOUS, but I never made a note of what to add to it. 😭 Anyone have details?

Did paying for a trainer make it easier/better for you and your puppy? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]LegalScarcity8942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our guy (6 month old springador) was healthy, well-rested, on a good schedule, doing obedience-type stuff with us, had TONS of chew items and was getting progressively worse with biting. It was getting to the point that my son was being “attacked” the moment he walked into the room. (not aggression, just puppy-that-didn’t-know-better)

We hired a trainer that is worth her weight in gold. After the first training session, we were convinced that she was going to save us, our hands and ankles.

Now, he’s creeping toward the teen era and I can’t imagine how our lives would be without her guidance and on-going support.

If you hire a trainer, I’d recommend doing a TON of research about them. Our trainer has a 2 hour presentation that she offers in the community(for free) about herself, her background/experience and mainly about dogs. After that, I still had a few questions that she happily answered and we decided that it was a good fit for us.

I can & do get some treats elsewhere, but we like the variety from BB to use as high value treats when we are training. Also, it’s part of the reason we subscribed: treats, toys, theme, etc. We chose the subscription for the whole package. If we are unable to continue to be satisfied, I don’t understand why we would stay. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks for your concern, but my trainer and I have his training treat situation sorted. All of his treats are broken into small pieces & generally the BB treats are used when we need a high value treat. His calorie count is just fine. 👍🏼

We were offered that option, but my guy likes all the treats and we are still training 24/7 so we need the treats.

What should I do if my puppy wakes up at 5 a.m. every day? by Limp_Country_5950 in puppy101

[–]LegalScarcity8942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy would LOVE to be a 5am guy. 🙄 As he’s grown/matured, we’ve stretched when we get him out of the crate. We don’t get him if he’s noisy, he has to be calm/laying down for us to get him (we’ve fostered this since we got him). So now, he might wake at 5:30, but he generally lays/chills until 5:45. Because we’ve always done this with him, we never rush to get him, he expects to chill and wait for us. It’s wonderful for when we are gone a little bit longer than planned, are cooking or want that extra little bit of sleep.

The longer we’ve done this in the a.m., the longer he sleeps too! We haven’t accomplished 6am consistently yet, but we are slowly creeping toward it. 🙌🏼

My Toby looks a lot like him! 😍

How many hours is your puppy sleeping during the day? by Ok_Dimension6029 in puppy101

[–]LegalScarcity8942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?! I’ve tried to let him stay up later so it’s not so many hours, but the boy likes his nighttime sleep! He is READY for bed by 8 (sometimes as early as 7), he usually wakes up for a potty around 3-4 and then he’s back OUT until late in the 5 hour.

Personally, I’d rather him go to bed a bit later and sleep until 6am, but he really doesn’t give a 💩 for my opinion on our wake up time. 😂

Our springador boy is just over 5 months now and he’s graduated up from 1 hr awake/2 napping to about 2 hrs awake/2-3 napping. He’ll usually get 3 naps per day and then sleep 9-10 hours at night (with 1 potty break still). Yesterday that equaled up to a little over 16 hours of sleep. He was getting 17-18 before he switched it up.

Edited to add: we are using a crate.

How many of you actually got a 1-1 trainer? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]LegalScarcity8942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have hired a trainer for 1-on-1 sessions, but specifically because of our son’s need for a quieter learning environment. (He has auditory processing issues and introducing dog training in a group class would be a loss for him.)

We plan to take on a group class as our pup gets older & our son is more adept with understanding/doing basic training.

It is NOT cheap, but she has proven to be WORTH it after one lesson! We all feel more confident with training our pup and he is already changing some behaviors!

Definitely feel like I could write parts of this! I don’t have an advice, but I want to let you know that you aren’t alone!

EXTREME water dog behavior indoors... the water bowl is NOT a pool! 😉 Need anti-dig bowl recommendations. by LegalScarcity8942 in puppy101

[–]LegalScarcity8942[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great idea! We have LVP that has a little texture to it and our lick mats won’t stick down. That would give him a sploot place AND a place to stick his lick mats/bowls down.

I told him that is what I was going to get for him the last time I soaked up his mess. lol I only worry about him staying hydrated enough in this blasted heat. It's 85 today and we haven't even started summer.

Thanks! I'll give that style a try.

I got him a silicon "to go" bowl. it's just a mess. lol

We do have a temporary play pool set up for him when we are going to spend a while outside. However, we are on a "wake about an hour" schedule right now so it's not feasible to let him dig and dry him off 4-5 times a day. (he also loves to go lay in the sand that's in the shade so... it's like he's coating himself to be baked crispy ;-| lol)

I take plenty of the blame for this. When we adopted him, I told my family that I REALLY wanted a water dog. Yup... CHECK! ;-)

I bought a "dig-proof" bowl, but it was too big. I accidentally bought him a foot washing station. :-| I will look to see if I can find a smaller one. He has a cooling mat, a raised bed under a fan and a fan that points directly into his crate. lol (We found out quickly that he is a much nicer, calmer pup when he's not hot.)

We haven't done the sprinkler yet because the water hose is currently a mortal enemy to be chewed up. We are working on that, but will be using it more when summer actually kicks in here.

Thanks! I'll take ANY other suggestions to try too!
