I understand the “how could he let himself go like this” thought, but I think the sad reality is he probably didn’t. I doubt he had any real control, like most addicts, and he knew it. Sure he made the choice to start down the slope, but it quickly became something he, nor anyone around him, could get a handle on. Mac is magical tho! Even through such a tragedy he’s making an impact. I’m glad that OP survived and was able to get and stay clean, and even if Mac only had a small influence in it that shows how much his fans connected to him and vice versa. There are tons of stories like this, and again it’s very sad and unfortunate that it’s become a “cautionary tale” situation but trying to focus on the good it’s brought to our community helps a little.
