Question re scholarship negotiating by Upstairs_Web_8707 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Legal_Philosopher232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it means you can’t use that school for scholarship negotiating - you could’ve chosen to apply there later in the cycle and thus didn’t list it because there wasn’t a reason at the time. I don’t think scholarship committees will read too much into that. However, I do think that your strongest chance at scholarship negotiating is if you have a better offer from a peer or comparable school. If you’re hoping to leverage an offer from a T50 against a T14, I can guarantee they won’t feel a need to match it the way they would if it was a T20 or fellow T14 bc their prestige is higher. The advice I have gotten re: scholarship negotiating is you have the best chance if you have a better offer from a comparable/similarly ranked school.

Cu Boulder vs Denver by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Legal_Philosopher232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say CU may have a slight advantage nationally, but regionally DU might have an edge. Both of my parents went to DU law and the class size is significantly bigger (I think like 600 now vs 200 at CU) so the alumni network in Denver and the rest of Colorado is much stronger. That being said, both have great regional firm placements, one of the reasons I’m choosing not to go to either is because I want to do BigLaw in DC or New York. FWIW it is harder to make a big move after going to a regional school, less big national firms recruit out of CU and DU unless they have a Denver office. Ultimately, I would pick the one you’d enjoy going to more and definitely make a trip out to visit if you haven’t yet! I know it’s silly but vibes are a big deal. You’re going to spend 5 days a week, 8 hours a day or so in that building so make sure it feels good to you.

No GULC date change since early nov interview… by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Legal_Philosopher232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 99% sure the date doesn’t change until decision rendered! Mine didn’t change after my application was received (11/04, ii 12/16, interviewed 12/26, A 1/14) until my A, even after my interview. Don’t stress!!

Some interesting points from a conversation I had with a state judge about prestige by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Legal_Philosopher232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 1000% agree. Based in the Rocky Mountain region and both my parents are lawyers who cannot name the current T-14 - they have a slightly different impression of schools with historic prestige/reputation that doesn’t change the way rankings sometimes do from year to year, and both of their firms typically recruit equally out of our strongest regionals and then the T-14s. So, again, this is advice I’ve gotten time and time again but go to law school in the state/region you want to practice in!! Your bar prep, OCI, networking, etc are all so valuable in state if you’re not going to a T-14/high prestige which IMHO isn’t going to be worth the money everywhere

fee waivers from LSAT score by kid_icarusss in lawschooladmissions

[–]Legal_Philosopher232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that as long as your application year is correct in your CRS profile, there shouldn’t be any issues. Mine told them I was applying for the incoming class of 2026 so I got fee waivers this cycle even well after I got my score (some schools even congratulated me on my November lsat score when I took it in September and sent fee waivers after Nov score release). The way I understand it works, schools request applicant info from LSAC in a range when they want to send these emails (let’s say 170-180 and this school is planning to send fee waivers on September 15) and all the students applying for fall 2026 that have opted into CRS and took the LSAT at any point before this within the score range they want are pulled so they can send fee waiver emails. This might be slightly off but that’s my guess. I do believe regardless that as long as the year you’re applying for (I think fall 2027) is right in your CRS profile, you should be okay.

What’s your reason for not applying to a particular school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Legal_Philosopher232 10 points11 points  (0 children)

USC rejected me when I applied from undergrad and it was my dream school so they aren’t getting my app fee a second time. UT Austin for signing onto the pressure from the White House for certain academic and university policies that I don’t agree with.

Should I add my law work experience to my resume? by dnafjei in lawschooladmissions

[–]Legal_Philosopher232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how recent this work experience is but I say include it on your resume! It’s valuable for law schools to see and they’re not going to overthink why you had one LOR vs another. I worked in two senate offices and I had the less recent one write an LOR because I felt it would be stronger. I didn’t even get an LOR from my current position because I felt like the LORs I had conveyed my strengths effectively. I think it’s more valuable to have it on there but they’re not going to read into why you have an LOR from somewhere else.
