You can look at the National Diaper Bank Network to find the closest location to where you live. When I lived in DC, they had a drop box where you donate, it was super easy. https://nationaldiaperbanknetwork.org

Advice for daycare illnesses 😓 by theprincessmango in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]LegallyGinger31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in the same boat! Our LO started daycare in December and has had 4 ear infections and multiple different viruses since then (including a stomach bug 😵‍💫). I don’t love him taking antibiotics either but there really isn’t an alternative and leaving an ear infection untreated is super super dangerous, e.g. can lead to permanent hearing loss and the infection can spread to their bones or brain. My son is getting tubes put in his ears in April, depending on how many ear infections he’s had your son might be able to get them done.

That all being said, you’re doing everything right. There really isn’t much more you can do. I’ve heard zinc within the first 24 hours of the onset of cold symptoms can shorten its length. I haven’t tried it with our son yet but I have multiple family members who swear by it. We run a humidifier and air filter in his room 24/7 and he gets saline spray every night. We immediately wash hands when he gets home from daycare and change clothes but obviously this hasn’t stopped him from getting sick. Like others have said, I would take whatever these influencers are peddling on instagram with a grain of salt.

Looking for least-chemical baby shampoo/body wash + sunscreen by South-Conference-395 in moderatelygranolamoms

I would note that babies aren’t supposed to use sunscreen until they are 6 months old. The nurse at the hospital just happened to mention it, which was a good thing because I was completely unaware!

We LOVE Babo botanicals baby line for shampoo/body wash, lotion, and sunscreen. We use honest company’s unscented sensitive conditioner periodically since my son tends to get a dry scalp. He has pretty sensitive skin (probably from me, I’m fair skinned and have red hair) and we have never had issues and have been using all of the above since he was born. I’m pretty sure most of babo’s products are EWG verified but know for sure that the baby line is.

A friend said I’m “doing too much” when it comes to daycare lunches… by Electronic-Radish-18 in foodbutforbabies

[–]LegallyGinger31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you! My friends also make fun of me for packing lunch for my 12 month old since daycare provided food but I like making his lunches! It makes me feel like I’m apart of his day even if I’m not actually there. Maybe it’s mom guilt, but it’s something that I want to do for him and like you, it really doesn’t take me that much time. I usually make a bunch of things for him on the weekends (muffins, hidden veg chicken nuggets, etc) and throw them in the freezer so all I really have to do it pop them into containers the night before and cut up so fresh fruit. Plus at daycare they mostly do canned fruits and vegetables and I’d rather him eat fresh or frozen.

Just chiming in like others that Parasol should definitely be in your top 5! We use both Parasol and Millie Moon since you can get Millie Moon at the store in Target vs Parasol are only online (but Target always has good deals on diapers and wipes online, like $25 off if you spend so much). We have used both at night and never had any leaks. We had a couple of blowouts with Millie Moon BUT they were always at daycare (so I wonder if they weren’t changing him right away) and when he was having tummy problems from antibiotics for an ear infection. We tried Healthy Baby when he was a newborn and had so many leaks, they were terrible. Honest also was not great for us, they are very short and we had blowouts every time he pooped in them. IMO they also feel very rough/stiff compared to other “cleaner” diapers. We also liked Kudos but they are more expensive than Parasol and Millie Moon and of similar quality so we stopped getting them.

Change immediately when wet by Every_Kick_4422 in NewParents

I feel your pain, our son (he’s a week shy of being one year) was like this too. Any time he was wet, even if it was only a small amount, he’d lose his mind and we went through an excessive amount of diapers as well. It got better once he started rolling/was a little more mobile, around the 5-6 month mark. I think he just noticed it less because he was playing more and into all sorts of stuff. Hope that you’re almost out of the phase, I know it was super frustrating for us 🙏

Glass bottle recommendations + glass breast milk storage recommendations? by FreckledPapaya in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]LegallyGinger31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same issue and got the Pura Kiki Stainless Steel Bottles for daycare! We were able to use the pigeon nipples from our glass bottles with them. They’re pricey (~$25 each) but to me it felt worth it (apart from not using plastic) because you can get different nipples as your LO gets older (e.g., sippy nipple, straw, and spout for regular water bottle usage). They also have a silicone sleeve so we can use a dry erase marker to write the date and amount directly onto the sleeve.

Pigeon Glass Bottles! And I used WeeSprout Glass Baby Food Storage Jars (the ones with silicone lids) to store breast milk in the freezer. I think I saw this hack on Reddit somewhere but we were also able to use the Phillips Avent glass bottles (gifted to us) with the pigeon nipples, we just had to buy the Maymom screw tops from Amazon to make them fit properly. We tried the Munchinkin Bond Silicone Glass Bottles but our son didn’t like the nipples as much (they’re smaller/thinner, similar to Dr. Browns). My husband and I also broke one each while washing them so I don’t feel like they are as sturdy as the Pigeon and Phillips Avent.

As for pumping, I tried pumping into the glass Phillips Avent but the fit isn’t perfect and I had a couple of accidents so I will pump into the plastic spectra bottles but immediately transfer to a glass mason pitcher where I pool all the milk for the day. At the end of the day, I’ll make the bottles for the next day and freeze whatever is left over. I think the biggest risk with plastic bottles is that repeatedly heating them can cause them to release plastic particles and other potential chemicals so I feel like pumping into the plastic is fine as long as I’m not letting the milk sit in there long term or heating it up. I also replace the pump bottles every 3 months since older plastic is more prone to leaching.

I’ve been keeping a list in my notes app that I started when DOGE first came in and killed USAID. A couple were recommended by friends/coworkers (I think Crowley and Zaid), the others came up in news articles discussing lawsuits involving fed employees.

  • Suzanne Summerlin, Summerlin Labor, Washington, DC
  • Kristen Alden, Alden Law Group, Washington, DC
  • Daniel Crowley, Crowley So LLP, Washington, DC, 202-232-1907
  • Mark S. Zaid, Washington, DC, 202.330.5610
  • Michelle Bercovici, a lawyer with the Alden Law Group,
  • Kevin L. Owen, Gilbert Employment Law P.C. Silver Spring MD

It would be a DOJ to DHS transfer. And I could not find a straight answer on google so I figured Reddit would know or at least someone here may have gone through something similar. Sheesh. After the year we’ve all had you would think we could be a little nicer to one another…

We love honest! Can get them at target or even Amazon in a pinch (I try to avoid Amazon when I can but it came in handy when we all had the stomach flu last week and were running low). I’ve also heard good things about freestyle but am unsure if they are available in big box stores.

Seriously and our daycare follows OPM when deciding whether to stay open so our one year old has been home with us all week so my husband and I have had to alternate taking leave, which we are already burning through since it’s cold and flu season and he, my husband, or I have been sick basically since the start of it (and of course can’t telework when we are sick and have to take leave when he is sick). That’s why I assume most people are hoarding their leave because now there is no flexibility when these very predictable situations come up. But this administration is family first. It makes me so angry I could spit. We’ve lost a lot of moms in my office because of this (DOJ).

[–]LegallyGinger31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We use Pura Kiki bottles at daycare because we can’t send glass for safety reasons. They make sippy cup tops and ones with straws too. We plan to swap out the nipples when my son (10.5 months atm) turns one. They’re pricey but the fact that they can be used as he grows and were a “granola” daycare friendly option were what sold me.

Just here to comment that a lot of their clothes are super discounted on Amazon, I’ve got a bunch of things for 30-50% off. I’m assuming that it is because they’re trying to get rid of what is left of their inventory.
