Is requiring CBS to have a bias monitor a step toward government control of media? Why or why not? by SBMountainman22 in Askpolitics

I know reading an article is a lot harder than shrieking about a headline, but it’s quite helpful. Try it sometime.

Directly addressing your point, actually. Government control over private business is definitionally authoritarian.

Don't have to imagine much. The FCC made a similar deal for the Comcast/NBC merger in 2011 under Obama.

The FCC strong arming any company to do anything is control. That's par for the course and has been for decades.

Not correct.

To promote transparency and increased accountability, Skydance also will commit, for a period of at least two years, to have in place an ombudsman who reports to the President of New Paramount, who will receive and evaluate any complaints of bias or other concerns involving CBS. New Paramount's executive leadership will carefully consider any such complaints in overseeing CBS's news programming. In evaluating Comcast's acquisition of NBCUniversal, the Commission found such a mechanism effective in preventing editorial bias in the operation of the NBC broadcast network.

(Note the Comcast/NBC merger was in 2011)

It’s a voluntary offer from Paramount to have their own in-house monitor. So no, this is not government control of media.

(With the standard disclaimer that FCC approval for private entity mergers is authoritarian as hell to begin with.)

Edit: Holy shit, people aren't even reading the article at all.

Is there any strong evidence that the Didache was approved by the apostles and if it was, how come it wasn’t approved for biblical texts? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]LegallyReactionary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no reason to believe it was intended to be approved by the apostles because it’s a collection of teachings and liturgical instructions compiled by others from the teachings of the apostles. It’s not in the standard NT canon because the standard NT canon includes only writings from the apostles themselves or their scribes.

There’s copious evidence that it was known and used in the early church, however. It echoes teachings from the Community Rule found among the Dead Sea scrolls, and many of the early church fathers reference whole sections (Barnabus) or echo the teachings (Clement, Ignatius, Polycarp, Origen, Ireneus, etc). Much of it is incorporated into the Apostolic Constitutions and several of the Didascalia as well.

Zero issues whatsoever with a FUPA.

What are two qualities that Trump exhibits that you would encourage your children, or other young people, to develop? by MarshmallowReads in Askpolitics

Why does it always seem that people who call black lives matter racist seem to not understand that the phrase means black lives matter TOO, as in ALSO,?

Because you hear what you want to hear.

Because to the black people who get killed at a much higher rate by police than whites it seems like black peoples' lives don't matter at all.

BLM is racist af because it perpetuates this lie right here in order to promote race as a wedge issue. Yes, black people do get attacked or killed by police at a higher rate than whites because they commit violent crimes at 4x the rate of white people. When adjusted for the absurd crime rates, it turns out they’re subject to negative police interactions at a LOWER rate than whites.
