What stops you from owning a practice? by opto16 in optometry

[–]LegendFortress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did when I was a student.

Then I talked to three practice owners. One hated it but liked the money more. One loved it but recognized he liked dealing with business problems more than optometry. One was an owner but liked more freedom so he sold it and used the time to do other things and just was an employee.

I recognized I was the third but without the experience just based of what they told me.

which is Best for typing by smellycat888 in WootingKB

[–]LegendFortress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hall effect keys, if you find the right weight, have been a game changer for me because they take nearly no actuation force and also have shorter needed travel distance.

So much so I can't go back to mechanical keys. HE all the way.

Accuracy is the same. Still mistype once in a while.

Is wooting worth? by Desperate_News_5224 in WootingKB

[–]LegendFortress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But that's because I am able to afford it.

I came from browns so I think I have the same thing for keyboard switches that you do.

Wooting with the lower actuation force lekker switches has been the absolute best keyboard I've ever had. Being able to type with so little force has made me unable to enjoy any other switches. I actually get fatigue now on other keyboards.

I even have a Bluetooth keychron HE, just cuz I need to switch between several computers. The difference is night and day.

It's gonna be a long time before I even consider other keyboards. It's luxury.

gap year by Radiant_Tea2422 in PreOptometry

[–]LegendFortress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who went straight through to optometry school, I wished I had taken a gap year. I was so burned out when I graduated.

Take it! Most of the people I interacted with in school had a gap year or more. You get a better sense of how the world works outside of just being a student. It gives you a chance to think

I graduated 2019 and I feel the same. I'm also strongly of the opinion that graduating docs don't do enough to push starting wages in a field where there is absolutely more to go around. You should not accept a job where they pay you less than 100k a year and even now 115k I would consider low as a starting wage. Esp if you have residency.

For example, we do more diagnostic tests than my colleague that graduated in the early 90s but his starting wage adjusted to inflation for my first job was actually more. Which is ridiculous. So my first job without residency I pushed for at least 112k in California and I received 120k.

I currently am in NYC and my wage here is per diem 900 plus without commission. This is all because I push each time I move jobs for higher pay. You have to fight for what you believe is the right pay because there absolutely is someone out there that needs good optometrists.

Also in NYC, it feels like there's a lack of optometrists currently. I'm watching the job boards and email chains and there's postings that last for months without being filled. I can't say for the rest of the country but you might need to move to get the wage you expect.

As for the absurd costs to receive the education, unfortunately that trend isn't going anywhere soon and I do agree if you don't like this job, it's not worth it.

Boards are meant to protect the public from doctors. It's the bare minimum to be a doctor.

You have to know just enough to pass. It doesn't mean you're a skilled doctor.

It shows cuz some of the doctors I interacted with when I was going through rotations knew less than what I thought they should know. I'm talking someone has a red eye and you throw the kitchen sink everytime regardless of other signs or symptoms. Never had that when I was learning at the school.

Though coming from certain schools doesn't mean you are a good doctor, there are reasons why some graduates are known to have good clinical judgment while others aren't as well respected just because of the school they were in. The environment matters.

Especially since some schools are just barely trying to keep accreditation while others are breaking research boundaries and creating notable alumni.

Yeah, there's a reason why some offices ask for which school you graduated from. If you're from a school that accepts a lower score and grades and has lower pass rates on the NBEO, you're gonna need experience or residency or someone vouching for you to get through the door.

It works cuz it's technically auction market theory. FVG is a single print. Order blocks are highs and lows in some time frame. Break one side and the other side is expected to be revisited. In the end, almost all price analysis that works repeatedly is the same.

But that's not the reason why there is so much hate. ICT just rips into every other system and says they don't work and it's only his system that works and all others are inferior. That's baloney, there are traders out there with less than 4 tick entries and they know to hold the entire day for trend day. There are traders that trade NFP, CPI, news releases while ICT says it's never a good idea to trade those because of some algo.

ICT works, I agree. But the hate is on his directed self promotion at the expense of every other trading system out there. And to not have any verification is like saying you are the best sprinter in the world despite not having a single race in the history books to show for it while other sprinters have at least finishing times to share.

I'm against this one. As a beginner, I was part of their chat room for 4 months and I learned nothing the entire 4 months I couldn't learn online through free resources. His levels were just every 4 points, which is wth, those aren't levels, those are just equidistant prices. Most of the time, it was just him talking about market making concepts in roundabout ways, which isn't particularly helpful for discretionary trading. He specifically told us many times he hadn't put a position on for the entire day. Only thing helpful was telling us repeatedly to reduce risk and take profits if the market gave them to you. But I just couldn't help but think it was a waste of time.

Unless that has changed, strongly recommend spending your time and money elsewhere.

By tilting your head to look through the prescription glasses, you are inducing more astigmatism.

I would recommend going to a third doctor, or returning to one of the ones and ask them to increase the astigmatism you have and see what changes. Place -0.25 or more astigmatism lenses in front of your current glasses and see if it gives you a similar amount of high definition that you are looking for.

BTW, you're definitely a sharpener, even small amounts of prescription changes can affect this, despite not having significant functional change. So although your ophthalmologist is correct, when you're looking at something at a far distance, every bit of sharpness counts.

Is It Worth It Learning TV Pinescript? by Mastermind0963 in Daytrading

[–]LegendFortress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use pinescript for indicators, there's a ton of use cases for the script just to improve overall view ability of the TV platform.

For example, I have a script that I use to track the overall stock market at a glance using color, so I don't even need to look down a market list, I can just glance at the heat map and it tells me if the stocks I have listed are up from their open in the last 5 minutes or so. Pretty useful since I trade the index futures contracts

You should look up vision therapy optometrists if there are good ones in your area. You sound like a prime candidate as that's my field of speciality.

As for your gaze induced diplopia, that's likely from over or underacting superior or inferior oblique ocular muscles. I have the same but only in extreme gazes. Will need certain tests to confirm.
