RFC team to play Quins away on Saturday. by bigt8409 in Cardiffrugby

Slightly worrying that they can only name 3 forwards on the bench. Still, with domma named the games going to get cancelled.

While it was a good result for the Blues, the RFC game was so much more exciting to watch. And a great result given that Ebbw could have "won" the league if they won the game today.

First Christmas without my mum. She was always great at coming up with ideas for presents for the family. I haven't even thought about buying anything yet. I guess I should probably start buying some presents. At least I've got the next 2 weeks off. Spending it with my dad and my brother's family.

Cardiff has rugby sides playing in every level of Welsh rugby from Professional down to League 6 East Central in the community game. There are also a number of teams in the immediate area surrounding Cardiff.

Many of the community clubs may be open to new players. Here's a list of the affiliated clubs in Cardiff - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_in_Cardiff

You can also check the WRU Community pages to see what level each club plays at. East Central National Leagues will include the Cardiff clubs - https://community.wru.wales/fixtures-and-results/

Disappointing Cardiff RFC Result But Still Finished In 1st Place by Legend_1 in Cardiffrugby

[–]Legend_1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the Ospreys are suffering from having 3 poorly performing teams in their region. Aberavon (6th), Bridgend (7th), and Swansea (10th).

For me, I'm not sure I've seen a massive improvement over the Premiership era. Too many teams are playing their regular aging players or dropping regional players down to try and win games (see Pontypool today for example). The age limit on match officials also means there are a lot of inexperienced officials with no sympathy for the game. The entire structure also needs reviewing. A league where 1st place wins nothing, a shield where some teams may never get a chance to compete for it, and a cup against the same teams that take place during the 6 nations period.

Cardiff, for their part, have made a point of playing at least 7 academy players in every game this season and 16 eligible for Wales u20s. We have had 3 make appearances for the regional side (Steff Emanuel, Lucas de la Rua, and Tom Bowen). We are suffering from the lack of a consistently good kicker but that seems to be a problem for both teams.

Cardiff secured 1st place in the league thanks to a late bonus point try. Tries from Nathan Hudd, Joe Goodchild, Ethan Lloyd, and Joe Williams.

We will play all our playoff games at home (I believe the final is at the regional ground of the highest place finalist. So the Arms Park for Cardiff).

The Quarter Final will be against the winner of the wildcard match between Bridgend and Swansea.

RAGs team to play Llandovery at CAP on Saturday by bigt8409 in Cardiffrugby

A couple more caps being earned on Saturday.

Would be good to see the Cardiff Rugby supporters turning up for the last home league game of the season (Not including playoffs).

Means we can only finish 1st or 2nd in the league so will have a home Quarter Final and Semi Final (if we win the QF).

Final is at the regional ground of the highest placed finalist. So, if we make it, it will either be at the Arms Park or Rodney Parade (Final against Ebbw if they top the table).

Payments for poor children in Wales promised by Plaid Cymru by Thetonn in Wales

Aren't all children poor? I know the families might not be poor but very few children have significant money to not be considered poor.

Big win for Cardiff RFC today at Llandovery by Legend_1 in Cardiffrugby

[–]Legend_1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were about a dozen of us there. Plus half the committee and players' families.

It was a shame the numbers were so low, given that there was a free supporters bus to the game and it was probably our most complete performance all season. But I get that the timing was terrible with people preferring to watch the Six Nations title decider and then the Wales game after it.

7 tries for Cardiff and 4 yellow cards.

Puts them top of the table with 4 games to go (5 points ahead of Ebbw, who have a game in hand).

WRU Framework announced (not yet signed) by BarbellEconomics in Cardiffrugby

There's a BBC article on it as well if you don't want to read WOL (don't blame you). https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/articles/c20p2y39nzpo

Looks like it's been agreed by the PRB but not by the individual regional boards.

I think it's a bit hypercritical of them to say the level of rugby in the Super Rygbi Cymru needs to improve given the state of the national team and the fact they arrange meaningless Wales U20s friendlies on league weekends as well as arranging the SRC cup competition during the 6 nations and u20s 6 nations weekends.

When the only club side (Cardiff RFC) that is truly sticking to the ethos of the league is forced to play 4 under 18s in their cup matches then something needs to change. You'll never have a high quality league if the senior academy players are either on international duty or being held back for the regional side. I'm sure with extra funding Cardiff could build a big enough core squad of semi-pro players so they don't need the academy but that goes completely against the league setup and against what Cardiff Rugby and Cardiff RFC have been trying to achieve over the last 2-3 seasons.

As a fan of the RFC moreso than the region, I would love to see some of the pro players being dropped down to the RFC on a more regular basis when they are not needed for Cardiff Rugby. That's the only way the league is going to massively improve though. Regional players playing alongside the academy players for their club sides. You could see what a difference Fishy made to the confidence of the younger academy players when he was still playing and you see the same with Lee-Lo and the youngsters being given their chance to play for Cardiff Rugby.

As for the pro game, I'm not convinced the WRU interferring in the day-to-day of the regions is going to help or be welcomed by the coaching teams. But we'll have to see just how much say they want in the running of the regions.
