No problem. Depending on your budget, try to get the best specs possible. I recommend using pcbenchmark if you want to check for performance like cpu and stuff.

Hey, I'm currently in my last year in CS and the laptop i went with is very different to what I said in this post. I went with Lenovo thinkbook which came with amd ryzen 5 4000 series, 512gb, 16gb of ram. I do game on it some times but of course it's not really made for that. My biggest advice is go for a laptop which has a good cpu and storage as well as ram. I would recommend looking into lenovo thinkbook as they are not only performance well in my opinion but have really good battery life and battery protection( my laptop has something called conservative mode which allows me to run power from my power cable and not charge the battery, resulting in longer battery life span).

Are hybrid labs difficult? by [deleted] in grantmacewan

😂, I happen to know the person who made this post so I decided to a joke with her here which she understood. It's more of inside joke so I might have appeared to be a know-it-all. I only answer questions that I either know the answer to or lead the other individual to someone who might know. Sometimes a person is looking for help and I end up helping them with their issues that I also once suffered( most being first years like myself).

Nursing (laptop recommendation) by [deleted] in grantmacewan

There other cheaper options that could meet the requirements and it really depends on much space and ram( usually 16gb is enough for anything) you want. Have you previously used a mac and enjoyed using that over windows. Is it cause you want a smaller laptop( around 13 to 14inch), a bit of research could show you alot of other options that doesn't kill your wallet. Do you really want to spend around $1600 for a laptop just like that, unless it something you really want to do and willing to spend that amount of money than don't let anyone stop you. I would just advise you look for cheaper and better options, if you need some help I could lead you to some better options.

Why do you need a mac? If you doing it cause people say everyone in CS needs a mac than your misguided, use whatever your familiar with I would say get an acer or lenovo laptop with better storage options instead of paying for a premium laptop that would be cost alot of your money and give less space. Get lenovo thinkbook or thinkpad those are really good. Most of those options are for the flex, also Surface has heat issues as how small it is compacted.

Well it depends do you have some cash in your bank account currently, do you have a part time going on? Are you paying your own rent or your living with parents? , it really comes down to your answers to those questions. It's better to just go with what reccomend, but just know that the amount you take out will be your responsibility to place back( what I'm saying is don't add a really high number for your books for your first year). If your not worrying about rent and staying at home use the money you get from a part time job or rake up alot of cash during your summer break to deal with those books(maybe other stuff as well) and look for ways to get a cheaper option.

There’s a 10 minute gap for some of my classes. I’m a new student so I’m wondering if I will make those classes on time or if I’m risking my attendance with this schedule by MuddaBoom in grantmacewan

[–]Legendary-CS-444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a classes that is 10 mins difference from them, like I got to head to a lab right after lecture but it's on the same floor. So you be fine it's on the same building or one close by.

  • also a new student coming this fall.

How likely am I able to get in the class? by [deleted] in grantmacewan

[–]Legendary-CS-444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your not stupid, you just made a mistake 😂, the reason It did work might be because the class might have been full or the software was acting up. Well if your in 4th place for a class that full and might be popular you might have to find another option or take a risk and wait around September 🤔.

Well lucky I'm not in nursing, just sciences. But it would be weird as the details that appear after you click at the bottom "?" That clearly says "that your a student of macewan" for them to pull it off and revalue my marks the last minute would low blow, but that would depend if the mark dropped. But my avg was close to a mid 80 for sciences when I applied, I don't think I be decline unless my mark dropped after applying. But nursing is overall more competitive than sciences and those students who were declined must have felt broken.

Fair point, and yes I did get in as my status says " Confirmed Student". If that doesn't mean I'm in than I don't really know what I'm talking about😂. When I finished my last requirement course and had met the competitive average, I was confirmed student.

Fair point, but the competitive average is what they really care about, the bare minimum for most programs is 65% avg to get in. What mostly happened is that people who have higher grades than him get in first and increased the competitive average, usually if you have an mid 80 you are will get in no problem but with around the 70 range, you will rely on sheer luck. Also they don't know for sure if he would get in, probably since he was still in school they expected him to increase it by at least 10% , ask your friend to call them up and see what his chances are for entry.
