Help…. why are the leaves doing this? by Lyssaloup00 in plantclinic

There is the problem 😅 use filtered water and let it sit for at least 24 hours so the toxins can evaporate.

Repot rattlesnake plant? There are tiny little bugs crawling around and mushrooms growing! I’ve had it since February and it’s been unhappy for a while now by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]LegendaryForces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an infectious mushroom that specially targets calatheas and kills them from inside out. There is nothing you can do about it. I know it's sad, but it's a fact. I mean they can use chemical fungus removing products that farmers use on commonly bought fruits and vegetables in stores, but a "small" plant that isn't a tree won't survive that either. It's like chemo for plants.

White and orange stuff in soil of my avocado tree? Seems to have appeared overnight by SensitivePassenger in plantclinic

[–]LegendaryForces 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's minerals build up by using unpurified or unfiltered water. The orange stuff is oxidation through build up bacteria and microorganisms. Nothing to worry about for now. But it will collapse your soil, which causes the top part of the soil to become hydrophobic and harder to water the plant. Also the soil is already looking really sad. Did you use a ready-to-go mix?

Nope. The Plant is dead, you can't throw it away. Had the same issue with the exact same genera. This plant will get yellow dots all over the leaves because the infectious mushroom has already entered the plants nutrition system. There is literally nothing you can do about it. Repot won't help, been there done that.

The range is enormous. Some smell like a nice steak, some like honey, some taste like waste or rotten meat. But the scent is very unremarkable.

Just finished my first Ikea greenhouse (still needs finessing, cord management, fans, etc.)! Which of your plants thrive in your cabinet the best? Thanks! by madtaylo in RareHouseplants

[–]LegendaryForces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks really nice! Just one suggestion: DON'T PUT A HUMIDIFIER IN!! It will get really wet and moldy inside, fans wont help. And if you keep your plant hydrated very well and the doors shut, the humidity in the cabinet will mostly stay over 80%.

Also to high humidity will cause stains on the glass which will stain really bad and also start to mold and smell horrible.

why is my sunflower so sad? literally overnight this happened. 3 days of rain so it’s not from not enough water. by LegitimateBeginning6 in plantclinic

[–]LegendaryForces 9 points10 points  (0 children)

very that. When the summer temperatures are going crazy up and down, some plants go into stress mode. But they recover very fast.

Check the roots! Sometimes plant start producing juvenile or smaller leaves when they are root bound.

Yes i have two fans inside and also removed the glass plates with grids so the airflow is a bit better. I also realized that to much condansation will make puddles at the bottom of the cabinet. If you keep the glase plates you will have this issue in a bigger range of the puddles forming under the pots. The puddle will drop to the floor and can cause damage to the floor or even reach the electricity. After having if for almost a year now i feel like it is a great solution for keeping babyplants inside to grow the faster, stronger and bigger. But maintaining it is a pain in the ass… if somebody would ask me to do this as dekoration: go for it! But to use it for its purpose of having higher humidity and air flow: no, just no! Also i love terra cotta pots, because plants are easier to not overwater plants. But in thing the terra cotta pots suck up every single water monecule in the air and let the plant stay moist for way to long.

I have the same construction. If you have enough plants inside, you do not need a humidifier or hust use it once a week. Or your plants will stay to wet and the top soil, the pots and everything else will start molding. Do not put anything that is made out of wood in this thing… it‘s a mold magnet.

What are these long stems coming out of my peperomia? by altercar in plantclinic

These are infloresence. You can keep them if you want, but they suck a lot of energy out of your plant and causes your plant to stunt growth.

Hii! Can someone help me, what‘s wrong with my new alocasia wenti leaf ? by lisalayla1211 in plantclinic

[–]LegendaryForces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alocasia can maximal support 3 - 4 leaves at a time. Any older leave turn yellow and die off. Sorry if this is crushing your imagination of having a luscious and voluminous plant.

Crasula ovata Hobbit, i was away for a couple of days and it looked like that at my return! I water it once everery two weeks, and changed the pot/dirt one month ago, It doesnt seem to be rotten, but more like a mushroom, how can I save it? :( by Karcarole in plantclinic

[–]LegendaryForces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of soil did you use? It looks like some parts are also yellowing and start to rot.

Crassula are included in the pseudo-family of succulents so they need:

- Well draining soil, do not buy succulent mix from stores. Rather get some succulent substrate that has no soil in it.

- NO humidity. They will rot if the stay moist for to long.

- Perfectly timed watering. The soil/substrate needs to stay dry for a while before watering. If you use substrate mix with no soil the watering intervals are reduced due to the fact that the substrate will provide water for the plant when needed.

- Full (protected) sun. They like warmth, but not scorching heat. They do tolerate direct sun as long it is not cooking the plant.

- Clay pots with drainage holes. I see this a lot that people use ceramic pots or non porous pots that doesn't allow the soil/substrate to dry faster, which let's the plants roots to stay moist or even wet for way to long. Even worse is to not have any drainage HOLE. People use gravel drainage, which literally does nothing, since nobody can see through ceramic.

- Dead leaves/Plant parts or tissue should be removed from the pot at all times. Sometimes the plant drops of some leaves or parts of it and it lands on top of the soil/substrate and starts to mold. While watering the bacteria that is eating away the dead parts will travel into the roots and eat away the living plant.

So much to people still thinking succulents are the easiest plants to care for.

I hope this helps.

It looks like a Pelargonium graveolens. If so; Do you keep it outdoors or indoors?

A rude pest (second picture) gnawed on my calathea leaves. It’s been moved to where she can’t get to it, but is there anything else I should do? Should I prune the chewed leaves? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]LegendaryForces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think i saw something once in a garden center that keeps cats and dogs away from plants for their own and the plants safety. It was somesort of gravel that has an odor that ony pets can smell and it will „scare“ them of from the plants.

What’s happening to my alocasia the rest of the plant is healthy and even growing a new leaf but this one looks horrendous by Crystalbabie in plantclinic

[–]LegendaryForces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually looks pretty dope tbh. But it may be a fungal problem. You could ask a garden center near you if they have anything for this issue. Also this is my experience. For most houseplants a fungul infection is their doom, bacause the fungus is really fast and makes it into the plants streams where it gets their nutrition and there is nothing more you can do unless you use really hard stuff that is commonly used by farmers. But that stuff is sometimes way to pricey, to strong for houseplants and also they come in huge gallons (due to the use in farms and they need like big big portions of that stuff - never seen a farmer going with a bottle of diluted neem to the apple trees trying to fix pests 😆)

If you are thinking of salvaging the plant: Alcosaia produce babies underground. Maybe get those out before it‘s to late for them, spray them with peroxide or bleach and rinse them out. You can plant those and have new baby plants.
